An optimization model is presented that can be used in the determination of a loss rate function and conceptual runoff models using observed rainfall and runoff data. In order to estimate the lumped parameters and to control inputs of the model, the differential equations, linear for underground flow and non-linear for overland flow, are transformed into state equations. Parameters of a loss rate function and runoff model under stationary assumption can be determined by the following procedures: optimization technique, linear control and non-linear curve fitting theory using several multiperiod storms simultaneously or using individual multiperiod storms. An infiltration equation that includes rainful intensity is used to dtermine the effective rainfall for a given rain of varying. The optimization model is applied to storms in Hyong Song watershed of Wonju area. The results of the new model are compared with earlier one.
The performance of convolutional deep learning networks is generally determined according to parameters of target dataset, structure of network, convolution kernel, activation function, and optimization algorithm. In this paper, a genetic algorithm is used to select the appropriate deep learning model and parameters for Alzheimer's classification and to compare the learning results with preliminary experiment. We compare and analyze the Alzheimer's disease classification performance of VGG-16, GoogLeNet, and ResNet to select an effective network for detecting AD and MCI. The simulation results show that the network structure is ResNet, the activation function is ReLU, the optimization algorithm is Adam, and the convolution kernel has a 3-dilated convolution filter for the accuracy of dementia medical images.
The sensitivity-based finite element model updating method has received increasing attention in damage detection of structures based on measured modal parameters. Finding an optimization technique with high efficiency and fast convergence is one of the key issues for model updating-based damage detection. A new simple and computationally efficient optimization algorithm is proposed and applied to damage detection by using finite element model updating. The proposed method combines the Gauss-Newton method with region truncation of each iterative step, in which not only the constraints are introduced instead of penalty functions, but also the searching steps are restricted in a controlled region. The developed algorithm is illustrated by a numerically simulated 25-bar truss structure, and the results have been compared and verified with those obtained from the trust region method. In order to investigate the reliability of the proposed method in damage detection of structures, the influence of the uncertainties coming from measured modal parameters on the statistical characteristics of detection result is investigated by Monte-Carlo simulation, and the probability of damage detection is estimated using the probabilistic method.

The typical design of ground improvement with prefabricated vertical drains (PVD) and surcharge preloading involves a series of deterministic analyses using averaged or mean soil properties for the various combination of the PVD spacing and surcharge preloading height that would meet the criteria for minimum consolidation time and required degree of consolidation. The optimum design combination is then selected in which the total cost of ground improvement is a minimum. Considering the variability and uncertainties of the soil consolidation parameters, as well as considering the effects of soil disturbance (smear zone) and drain resistance in the analysis, this study presents a stochastic cost optimization of ground improvement with PVD and surcharge preloading. Direct Monte Carlo (MC) simulation and importance sampling (IS) technique is used in the stochastic analysis by limiting the sampled random soil parameters within the range from a minimum to maximum value while considering their statistical distribution. The method has been verified in a case study of PVD improved ground with preloading, in which average results of the stochastic analysis showed a good agreement with field monitoring data.

Microarray gene expression profiling technology is one of the most important research topics in clinical diagnosis of disease. Given thousands of genes, only a small number of them show strong correlation with a certain phenotype. To identify such an optimal subset from thousands of genes is intractable, which plays a crucial role when classify multiple-class genes express models from tumor samples. This paper proposes an efficient classifier design method to simultaneously select the most relevant genes using an intelligent genetic algorithm (IGA) and design an accurate classifier using Support Vector Machine (SVM). IGA with an intelligent crossover operation based on orthogonal experimental design can efficiently solve large-scale parameter optimization problems. Therefore, the parameters of SVM as well as the binary parameters for gene selection are all encoded in a chromosome to achieve simultaneous optimization of gene selection and the associated SVM for accurate tumor classification. The effectiveness of the proposed method IGA/SVM is evaluated using four benchmark datasets. It is shown by computer simulation that IGA/SVM performs better than the existing method in terms of classification accuracy.
Optimization is carried out to determine process parameters which reduce the amount of springback and improve shape accuracy of a deep drawn product in sheet metal forming process. The study uses the amount of stress deviation along the thickness direction in the deep drawn product as an indicator of springback instead of springback simulation. The scheme incorporates with an explicit elasto-plastic finite element method for calculation of the final shape and the stress deviation The optimization method adopts the response surface method in order to seek for the optimum condition of process parameters such as the blank holding force and the draw-bead force. The present scheme is applied to design of the variable blank holding force in an U-draw bending process and the application is further extend ε d to the design of draw-bead force in a front side member formed with advanced high strength steel (AHSS) sheets of DP60. Results show that design of process parameter is well performed to decrease the stress deviation through the thickness and to reduce the amount of springback. The present analysis provides a guideline in a design stage for controlling the springback based on the finite element simulation of the complicated parts.

This paper proposes an efficient method for improving the training performance of the neural network by using a hybrid of a stochastic approximation and a backpropagation algorithm. The proposed method improves the performance of the training by appliying a global optimization method which is a hybrid of a stochastic approximation and a backpropagation algorithm. The approximate initial point for a stochastic approximation and a backpropagation algorihtm. The approximate initial point for fast global optimization is estimated first by applying the stochastic approximation, and then the backpropagation algorithm, which is the fast gradient descent method, is applied for a high speed global optimization. And further speed-up of training is made possible by adjusting the training parameters of each of the output and the hidden layer adaptively to the standard deviation of the neuron output of each layer. The proposed method has been applied to the parity checking and the pattern classification, and the simulation results show that the performance of the proposed method is superior to that of the backpropagation, the Baba's MROM, and the Sun's method with randomized initial point settings. The results of adaptive adjusting of the training parameters show that the proposed method further improves the convergence speed about 20% in training.
In this paper, a multi-objective multiparameter optimization procedure is developed by combining rigorously developed metamodels with an evolutionary search algorithm-Genetic Algorithm (GA). Response surface methodology (RSM) is used for developing the metamodels to replace the tedious finite element analyses. A nine-node isoparametric plate bending element is used for conducting the finite element simulations. Highly accurate numerical data from an author compiled FORTRAN finite element program is first used by the RSM to develop second-order mathematical relations. Four material parameters-${\frac{E_1}{E_2}}$, ${\frac{G_{12}}{E_2}}$, ${\frac{G_{23}}{E_2}}$ and ${\upsilon}_{12}$ are considered as the independent variables while simultaneously maximizing fundamental frequency, ${\lambda}_1$ and frequency separation between the $1^{st}$ two natural modes, ${\lambda}_{21}$. The optimal material combination for maximizing ${\lambda}_1$ and ${\lambda}_{21}$ is predicted by using a multi-objective GA. A general sensitivity analysis is conducted to understand the effect of each parameter on the desired response parameters.
SIMHYD and TANK model are used to predict time series of daily rainfall-runoff of Soyang Dam and Youngcheon Dam watershed. The performances of SIMHYD model with 7 parameters and TANK model with17 parameters are compared. Three optimization methods (Genetic algorithm, Pattern search multi-start and Shuffled Complex Evolution algorithm) were applied to study-areas with 3 different types of objective functions. Efficiency of TANK model is higher than that of SIMHYD. Among different types of objective function, Nash-sutcliffe coefficient is found to be the most appropriateobjective function to evaluate applicability of model.

Differential evolution(DE) has been preyed to be an efficient method for optimizing real-valued multi-modal objective functions. DE's main assets are its conceptual simplicity and ease of use. However, the convergence properties are deeply dependent on the control parameters of DE. This paper proposes an adaptive differential evolution(ADE) method which combines with a variant of DE and an adaptive mechanism of the control parameters. ADE contributes to the robustness and the easy use of the DE without deteriorating the convergence. 12 optimization problems is considered to test ADE. As an application of ADE the paper presents a supervised clustering method for predicting events, what is called, an evolutionary event clustering(EEC). EEC is tested for 4 cases used widely for the validation of data modeling.
