  • In the present study, complex leakage probabilities of nuclear pipes due to fatigue and stress corrosion cracking are evaluated by using the PINTIN(Piping INTegrity INner flaws) that is developed based on the existing PRAISE(Piping Reliability Analysis Including Seismic Events) program. With regard to the aging and crack instability, small leak and big leak probabilities are calculated for several pipes in a reactor coolant system of domestic nuclear plant. Moreover, sensitivity analysis is also performed to find out the effect of parameters for the leakage of pipes, which shows the coolant temperature is the most influencing parameter.

  • In this paper, the dynamic stability of a rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid with a crack is investigated by the numerical method. That is, the influence of the rotating angular velocity, mass ratio and crack severity on the critical flow velocity for flutter instability of system are studied. The equations of motion of rotating cantilever pipe are derived by using extended Hamilton's principle. The crack section of pipe is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged pipe segments. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and always opened during the vibrations. Generally, the critical flow velocity for flutter is proportional to the rotating angular velocity of a pipe. Also, the critical flow velocity and stability maps of the rotating pipe system for the variation each parameter are obtained.

  • The evolution of semiconductor manufacturing technology has accelerated the reduction of device dimensions and the increase of integrated circuit density. In order to improve yield within a short turn around time and maintain it at high level, a system that can rapidly determine problematic processing steps is needed. The statistical process control detects abnormal process variation of key parameters. Expert systems in SPC can serve as a valuable tool to automate the analysis and interpretation of control charts. A set of IF-THEN rules was used to formalize knowledge base of special causes. This research proposes a strategy to apply expert system to SPC in semiconductor manufacturing. In analysis, the expert system accomplishes the instability detection of process parameter, In diagnosis, an engineer is supported by process analyzer program. An example has been used to demonstrate the expert system and the process analyzer.

  • This paper describes a reactive optimal power flow incorporating margin enhancement constraints. Margin sensitivity at a steady-state voltage instability point is calculated using invariant space parametric sensitivity, and it can provide valuable information for selection of effective control parameters. However, the weakest buses in neighboring regions have high margin sensitivities within a certain range. Hence, the control determination using only the sensitivity information might cause violation of operational limits of the base operating point, at which the control is applied to enhance voltage stability margin in the direction of parameter increase. This paper applies an interior point method (IPM) to solve the optimal power flow formulation with the margin enhancement constraints, and shunt capacitances are mainly considered as control variables. In addition, nonlinearity of margin enhancement with respect to control of shunt capacitance is considered for speed-up control determination in the numerical example using the IEEE 118-bus test system.

  • Combustion phenomenon in scale-downed combustor is investigated. As the combustor scale decreases surface to volume ratio increases and chamber size approaches quenching distance. As the combustor scales down surface to volume ratio increases resulting increased heat loss. And this heat loss can affect quenching and instability of the flame. To investigate this effect plastic mini combustor is made. Stoichiometricaly premixed Hydrogen / air gas is used as fuel. Initial chamber pressure and chamber size are varied and the effects are evaluated. Peak pressure decreased with the decrease in chamber height. As initial chamber pressure decreases peak pressure decreases and this change is more important than scale down effect till the chamber height of 1mm. With this result and further information following the experiments design parameter for micro engine can be established.

  • The tone generation mechanism and aeroacoustic characteristics have been investigated for flow over open cavities using direct acoustic numerical simulations. Physically the tone generation mechanism of open cavity is more complicated when flow instabilities are excited by the correlation effects of flow parameters. From non-dimensional parameter studies in very low Mach number range, it is shown that characteristics of cavity resonance inherently involve typical acoustic pattern at each discrete tone frequency, and especially in laminar flow the fundamental tone frequency is determined within flow instability criterion of laminar shear layer as well as cavity geometry, length to depth ratio.

  • The distance in load parameter space to the closest saddle node bifurcation (CSNB) point provides the worst case power margin to voltage instability and the left eigenvector at CSNB identifies the most effective direction to steer the system to maximize voltage stability under contingency. This paper presents an improved direct method for computing CSNB: the order of nonlinear systems equations is reduced to about twice of the size of load flow equations in contrast to about three-times in Dobson's direct method; the initial guess for the direct method is computed efficiently and robustly by combined use of continuation power flow, a pair of multiple load flow solution with Lagrange interpolation. It is also shown that voltage stability may be enhanced significantly with shift of generations in the direction of the left eigenvector at CSNB.

  • FIDVR(Fault Induced Delayed Voltage Recovery) is a phenomenon that recovery of the system voltage level delays after the fault. Cause of FIDVR phenomenon is motor load characteristic about voltage and reactive power. In low voltage condition, the motor go to stall state that consume large amount of reactive power. As a result, the voltage recovery problem is that of repeated occurrences of sustained low voltage following faults on the system. In this paper, analysis the characteristics of the motor load. And using the korean power system actual data, perform a case studies to voltage delay recovery phenomenon alleviation method. Change of each parameters by analyzing the effect on system and selecting an influence parameter. In addition, dynamic characteristic analysis of the resulting difference in the proportion by the motor load in power systems, considering the effect on the voltage stability.

  • Experimental results are presented for the degradation of 3 nm-thick gate oxide ($SiO_2$) under both Negative-bias Temperature Instability(NBTI) and Hot-carrier-induced(HCI) stresses using P and NMOSFETs that are annealed with hydrogen or deuterium gas at high-pressure (1~5 atm.). Statistical parameter variations depend on the stress conditions. We suggest that deuterium bonds in $SiO_2$ film is effective in suppressing the generation of traps related to the energetic hot electrons.
