  • In this paper, we propose a three-phase soft-switching PWM-PFC converter and describe the circuit operations and the experimental results. The proposed converter is constructed by using a resonant network in parallel with the main switch of the conventional PWM converter. A new PWM-PFC converter achieves including the auxiliary switches without increasing their voltage and current stress.

  • In this paper, an improved soft switching forward dc/dc converter is proposed. The proposed converter is constructed by using non-dissipate snubbers in parallel with the main switch and output diode of the conventional forward converter. Due to use of the non-dissipative snubbers, the proposed converter achieves zero-voltage switching for all switching devices and output diodes without switching losses. The complete operating principles and experimental results will be presented.

  • In this paper, parallel input/serial output dual converter is designed appropriately for fuel cell hybrid power system. In case of proposed converter, zero voltage switching condition is designed without additional resonance device using leakage inductance of transformer and output capacitance of switch, and zero voltage switching method is used. Also, the system method is for increasing power by connecting half-bridge in parallel and increasing output voltage by connecting secondary output of transformer in serial. Through this method we can increase power and decrease volume of system. So in this paper, dual converter is designed. 1.5kW fuel cell hybrid power system was implemented, and system operation and stability was verified through experiment.

  • Comparing with the conventional transformer without the air gap, a contactless transformer with the large air gap between the long primary winding and the secondary winding has increased leakage inductance and reduced magnetizing inductance. For transferring the primary power to the secondary one, the high frequency series resonant converter has been widely used for the contactless power supply system with the large air gap and the increased leakage inductance of the contactless transformer However, the high frequency series resonant converter has the disadvantages of the low efficiency and high voltage gain characteristics in the overall load range due to the large air gap and the circulating magnetizing current. In this paper, the characteristics of the high efficiency and unit voltage gain are revealed in the proposed three-level series-parallel resonant converter. The results are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 5kW experimental prototype.

  • Low voltage ride through capability augmentation of a hybrid micro-grid system is presented in this paper which reflects enhanced reliability in the system. The control scheme involves parallel connected multiple ac-dc bidirectional converters. When the micro-grid system is subjected to a severe voltage dip by any transient fault single power converter may not be able to provide necessary reactive power to overcome the severe voltage dip. This paper discusses the control strategy of additional power converter connected in parallel with main converter to support extra reactive power to withstand the severe voltage dip. During transient fault, when the terminal voltage crosses 90% of its pre-fault value, additional converter comes into operation. With the help of additional power converter, the micro-grid system withstands the severe voltage fulfilling the grid code requirements. This multiple converter scheme provides the micro-grid system the capability of low voltage ride through which makes the system more reliable and stable.

Improved Droop Method for Converter Parallel Operation in Large-Screen LCD TV Applications

  • Current sharing between modules in a converter parallel operation is very important for the reliability of the system. This paper proposes an improved droop method that can effectively improve current sharing accuracy. The proposed method adaptively adjusts the output voltage set-point of each module according to the current set-points. Unlike conventional droop control, modules share a signal line to communicate with each other. Nevertheless, since signals are simple and in digital form, the complexity of the circuitry is much less and noise immunity is much better than those of conventional methods utilizing communication. The operation principle and design procedure of the proposed method are described in detail. Results of the experiment on two boost converters operating in parallel under the specification of a TFT LCD TV panel power supply verify the validity of the proposed scheme.

  • A new ripple analog-to-digital converter (ADC) has been developed. It consists of two parallel ADCs and a switching network. The circuit operates on the analog input signal in two serial steps. First, a coarse conversion is made to determine the most significant bits by the first parallel ADC. The resultant bits control the switching network to connect a series resistor segment, within which the analog signal is contained, to the second parallel ADC. At second step, a fine conversion is made to determine the least significant bits by the second parallel ADC. The circuit requires 2(2\ulcorner\ulcorner1) comparators, 2(2\ulcorner\ulcorner resistors, and 2(2\ulcorner\ulcorner swithches for N-bit resolution.

  • Power factor and harmonics are increasingly important for high speed train auxiliary block. This paper presents experimental results of the power factor and harmonic performance of two parallel PWM circuits under various supply and load conditions. For reducing harmonics the harmonic content is eliminated by the phase shift between two converters switching phase. Experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed method and applicability to PWM converter in auxiliary block of high speed train.

  • A fast time domain modeling and simulation is performed for the input-series-output-parallel connected 2-switch forward converter Steady-state and large-signal transient responses due to a step load change are simulated. The simulation results are verified through experiments.
