  • A concatenated coding system using a binary code as the inner code and a nonbinary code as the outer code has been constructed for the purpose of error correction. The complexity of a conventional coding system grows exponentially as the code length of a block code becomes longer. To reduce the complexity for ling code, an effective communication system has been proposed by cascading two codes-binary and norbinary codes. Using a parallel-to-serial circuit and a serial-to-parallel circuit, the concatenated coding system has been designed and constructed by empolying a (7,3) burst error correcting code as the inner code and a (7,3) Reed-Solomon code as the outer code. This system has been simulated and tested using a micro-computer. For the (49,9) concatenated coding system, the error probability of the channel has been evaluated and compared to different coding systems.

  • The most appropriate low density parity check (LDPC) code for hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) system suitable for future multimedia communication systems is presented in this paper. HARQ system with punctured LDPC code is investigated at first. And two transmission schemes with parallel concatenated LDPC code are also presented and their performances are analyzed according to the various values of mean column weight (MCW). As a result, the parallel concatenated LDPC code with the diversity effect of information bit is considered to be more appropriate for HARQ system considering the throughput as well as error performance.

  • For parallel and serially concatenated trellis coded modulation (TCM), improved iterative decoding schemes with a simple mechanism are proposed and their performances are compared with those of conventional decoding schemes. Simulation results have shown that the proposed schemes have provided a considerable decoding gain in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels and Rayleigh fading channels, even if they can be implemented by a simple modification of conventional decoding algorithms.

  • In this paper, we extend the derivation of the iterative soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) for partial response (PR) channels, and modify its decoding process such that it works consistently for arbitrary high code rates, e.g., rate 64/65. We show that the modified SOVA always outperforms the conventional SOVA that appears in the literature with a significant difference for high code rates. It also offers a significant cut down in the trace-back computations. We further examine its performance for parallel and serial concatenated codes on a precoded Class IC partial response (PR4) channel. Code rates of the form $\frac{k_0}{k_0+1}$($k_0$ = 4, 8, and 64) are considered. Our simulations indicate that the loss suffered by the modified SOVA, relative to the APP algorithm, is consistent for all code rates and is at most 1.2 dB for parallel concatenations and at most 1.6 dB for serial concatenations at $P_b$ = $10^{-5}$.

  • It is well known that Parallel Concatenated Convolutional Codes(turbo codes) has a good performance for long block sizes. This thesis has analyzed the performance of turbo code which is based on voice or control frames with short frame sizes in the future mobile communication system. Also, at the similar decoding complexity, the performance of turbo code and convolutional codes in the speech/control frames, and the applicability of this system are considered. As a result, turbo code in short frame sizes present the performance of a BER of $10^{-3}$ or more over 3 iterations in the future mobile communication system. However, at a BER of $10^{-3}$ , if the same complexity is considered, the performance of rate 1/2 turbo code with K = 5 is better than that of convolutional code with K = 9 at low $E_b/N_0$, and the performance of turbo code with K = 3 is superior to that of convolutional code with K = 7. Rate 1/3 turbo code with K = 3 and 5 have similar to performance of rate 1/2 turbo code.

  • A parallel concatenated convolutional coding scheme consists of two constituent systematic convolutional encoders linked by an interleaver. The information bits at the input of the first encoder are scrambled by the interleaver before entering the second encoder.〔1〕-〔3〕Now many different interleavers are presented for Turbo code. The topic of this paper is to design of the interleaver which is for IS-2000 Turbo code.

  • In this article, we introduce a new class of product codes based on convolutional codes, called convolutional product codes. The structure of product codes enables parallel decoding, which can significantly increase decoder speed in practice. The use of convolutional codes in a product code setting makes it possible to use the vast knowledge base for convolutional codes as well as their flexibility in fast parallel decoders. Just as in turbo codes, interleaving turns out to be critical for the performance of convolutional product codes. The practical decoding advantages over serially-concatenated convolutional codes are emphasized.

  • In this paper, the network performance of a turbo coded optical code division multiple access (CDMA) system with cross-layer, which is between physical and network layers, concept is analyzed and simulated. We consider physical and MAC layers in a cross-layer concept. An intensity-modulated/direct-detection (IM/DD) optical system employing pulse position modulation (PPM) is considered. In order to increase the system performance, turbo codes composed of parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCCs) is utilized. The network performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability (BEP). From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that turbo coding offers considerable coding gain with reasonable encoding and decoding complexity. Also, it is confirmed that the performance of such an optical CDMA network can be substantially improved by increasing e interleaver length and e number of iterations in e decoding process. The results of this paper can be applied to implement the indoor optical wireless LANs.

  • In this dissertation, in the Turbo Code used for error correction coding of the recent digital communication systems, we propose a new S-R interleaver that has the better performance than the existing block interleaver, and the Turbo Decoder that has the parallel concatenated New structure using the MAP algorithm. For real-time voice and video services over the third generation mobile communications, the performance of two proposed methods is analyzed by the reduced decoding delay using the variable decoding method by computer simulation over multipath channels of DS-CDMA system. Also, a Modified NCMA based on conventional NCMA is proposed to improve the channel efficiency in the mobile communication system, and is investigated over the multi-user environment of DS-CDMA system through computer simulation.
