Reduction Characteristics of Electromagnetic Penetration through Narrow Slots in Conducting Screen by Loading Parallel Wire Arrays

  • This paper presents a method of reducing penetration of penetrated electromagnetic fields through a narrow slot with parallel wire arrays in a planar conducting screen of infinite extent. An integral equation for the aperture electric field on the narrow slot is derived and solved by applying Galerkin's method of moments. When a plane wave is excited to the narrow slot, the aperture electric field is easily controlled by the parallel wire arrays connected on the slot and therefore the magnitude of the penetrated electric field is effectively reduced by loading the parallel wire arrays. The numerical results show that the magnitude of the penetrated electromagnetic field can be effectively reduced by installing the parallel wire arrays on the slot. The results of the calculated penetration electric fields are in good agreement with that of the measured results.

  • In this study, we proposed the wire parallel mechanism that can be used to measure a full pose of a robot. It is composed of six parallel links using wire. The position and orientation of the end effectorf of a robot are calculated using the length of wires which is measured by the encoder. The complex non- linear equations of the forward kinematics are solved by using a numerical method, and the unique solution is obtained from the geometric configuration of the device. The length error of the wire which occurs in static condition is compensated by the relational equation that considered longitudinal extension and defoection of the wire. Through this work, we known that the proposed device has a good accuracy( .+-. 0.01mm) in a large measuring region, so it can be used effectively in a callibration of a robot which required a low cost.

  • This paper discusses the problems in application of a parallel wire strand with high performance steel wires, which have the tensile strength of 1960 MPa grade, as a major component of the main cables in suspension bridges. Construction methods of main cables in suspension bridges are briefly reviewed by comparing the pros and cons of available methods. Required items for performance and quality of parallel wire strands are described based on the established references. Ultimate tensile strength tests are carried out for seven specimens in order to analyze the behavior of high-performance parallel wire strands. The test results demonstrate that the properties of test specimens are satisfied with performance indexes specified in this paper. The high-performance parallel wire strands are acceptable for application in main cables of suspension bridges.

The magnitude of penetrated electromagnetic fields through a narrow slot is controlled by electric field distributions on the slot. An integral equation for the aperture electric field on narrow slots is derived and solved by applying Galerkin's method of moments. The results show that the magnitude of the penetrated electromagnetic field can be effectively reduced by installing the parallel wire or parallel plate on the slot.

  • This paper presents the Wire Parallel Mechanism for robot pose measurement which can be used to robot calibration. It is constructed with six parallel links using wire. The position and orientation of the end effector of a robot are calculated from the wire length that measured by the encoder. The unique solution is obtained from a Newton-Raphson method and geometric configuration of the mechanism, also the method to estimate a measuring space is presented. Through the simulations, it is verified that the proposed mechanism can measure a robot pose, and has a large measuring space. In conclusion, it can be used effectively in a robot pose measurement with little cost and effort.

A Study on the Behavior of Droplets Colliding with Parallel Wires (평행 와이어와 충돌하는 액적 거동에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the behavior of the droplet colliding with parallel wires was analyzed by time-delay photography. The impact behavior modes and the critical capture speed were analyzed by changing fluids, the droplet velocity, the wire diameter and the distance between wires. Seven typical modes of impacting droplet on parallel wires were observed. The tendency of mode change was generally similar when the wire diameter was changed, but the increase of the wire diameter caused the increase of the droplet velocity at which the mode changed. The modes at the highest droplet velocity were the splitting mode when the wires were closest, the passing and splitting mode in the middle, and the passing mode when the wires were farthest apart. The critical capture speed increased as the wire diameter increased and the distance between wires decreased. The ethanol droplet showed the lowest critical capture speed.

  • In multi-ground distribution system, overhead ground wire and neutral wire are parallel connected to offer the electrical power energy and protect damage of lightning strokes. Therefore a case where the two wires become single wire, the power company can get the benefit such as installation cost saving and line fault protection by simplify of distribution line. In this paper we describe the result of impulse test in both system ; one is the present power system the other is unified power system parallel connected overhead ground wire and neutral wire. As a result of this impulse test, the present power system get lower impulse voltage than the unified power system.

  • This paper covers induced voltage in parallel telecommunication cable with underground power cable to be linked between substations. The simulation was carried out the induced voltage in telecommunication cable according to the transposition of power cables and fault location for various conditions. This study based on the EMTP/ATPDraw with actual underground cable systems while the power cables are in steady state and transient state.

  • The bond pull test is the most widely used technique for the evaluation and control of wire bond quality. The wire being tested is pulled upward until the wire or bond to the die or substrate breaks. The inspector test strength of wire by manually and it takes around 3 minutes to perform the test. In this paper, we develop a 3D vision system to measure 3D position of wire. It gives 3D position data of wire to move a hook into wires. The 3D measurement method to use here is a confocal imaging system. The conventional confocal imaging system is a spot scanning method which has a high resolution and good illumination efficiency. However, a conventional confocal systems has a disadvantage to perform XY axis scanning in order to achieve 3D data in given FOV (Field of View) through spot scanning. We propose a method to improve a parallel mode confocal system using a micro-lens and pin-hole array to remove XY scan. 2D imaging system can detect 2D location of wire and it can reduce time to measure 3D position of wire. In the experimental results, the proposed system can measure 3D position of wire with reasonable accuracy.

Calculation of an Induced Voltage on Telecommunication Lines in Parallel Distribution Lines (병행 배전선로에서의 통신선 유도전압 계산)

  • Recently, it is common in a distribution system of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to find instances where distribution lines are parallel. A traditional method of an induced voltage calculation is not suitable for parallel distribution lines. For more actual analysis of induced voltage on telecommunication lines in parallel distribution lines, a new calculation method is needed. This paper presents a new calculation method of an induced voltage on telecommunication line using equivalent ${\pi}$ circuits matrix in parallel distribution lines. The advantages of the calculation method are using actual neutral current value and not using screening factor for considering the overhead ground wire and the neutral wire. To verify the effectiveness and the accuracy of the method, various case studies are performed with EMTP(Electro-Magnetic Transients Program).
