  • This paper describes a methodology for the three dimensional electric field calculation around parallel and orthogonal transmission lines. A nonuniform modeling method of finite line using linear line charges is proposed through the error analysis, Several examples of three dimensional electric field calculation are carried out by this method.

Forced Resonant Type Cutoff Cavity-Backed Slot Antenna Elements for Electromagnetic Power Transmission

  • This paper presents the basic characteristics of a cutoff cavity-hacked slot antenna, for the application of spacetenna, with a feed post and a parasitic post inserted parallel to the slot. This type of antenna might effectively excite the slot and forcibly resonate the cavity by adding external reactance to the parasitic post. The Galerkin\`s method of moments is used to analyze integral equations for the unknown electric current on each post and electric field in the slot. The value of external reactance for forced resonance is discussed by deriving a determining equation, the current distribution on each post and the radiation patterns are considered. The analysis is in excellent agreement with the experiment for the radiation patterns.

  • We would like to show a measuring technique of azimuthal anchoring energy of the nematic liquid crystals. The electro-optical setup of liquid crystal cell, crossed polarizers and magnetic field was assumed. The planar or hybrid alignment cells were prepared. The director in the light entering substrate and the polarization of light was adjusted into parallel to the magnetic field. The director orientation of exit substrate and analyser maintained perpendicular to the magnetic field. As the magnetic field strength is increased, the director deviates from the easy axis and rotates to the field direction. We obtained an equation calculating the change of transmission with the field and measured experimentally the transmission. By comparing the calculating and experimental data, we obtained the azimuthal anchoring strength.

  • In this paper, a path control switch has been developed for self-healing operation in SDH-based transmission system. The proposed switch is suitable for self-healing operations in both an Unidirectional Path Switched Ring and a 2-fiber Bidirectional Line Switched Ring. The path control switch is implemented with $0.8{\mu}m$ CMOS LSI chip. The self-healing operation of the switch is effectively done by the configuration information stored in the registers of the switch. The switch has an AU-3(51.84Mb/s) TSI(Time Slot Interchange) and has 1.25Gb/s throughput. But the higher throughput can be realized by combining two identical switches or more with the parallel architecture.

  • In this paper, a new multi carrier, direct sequence code division multiple access (MC-DS-CDMA) system is proposed. Our new signal construction is based on convolutional encoding of the transmitted data, serial-to-parallel (S/P) conversion of the encoded data, Walsh-Hadamard-transformation (WHT), a second S/P conversion of the WHT outputs, spread spectrum (SS) modulation with a common pseudo-noise (PN) sequence, and then multicarrier transmission. The system bit error rate (BER) performance in frequency selective fading channel in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and a jamming tone is analyzed and simulated. The numerical results are compared with those from an orthogonal MC-DS-CDMA system of Sourour and Nakagawa [7]. It is shown that the two systems have almost the same BER performance, but the proposed scheme has better anti-jamming ability.

  • In this study, an effective method for designing an electromagnetic multilayer radome is introduced. This method is achieved by using ant colony optimization for a continuous domain in the transmission coefficient maximization with stability for a wide angle of incidence in both perpendicular and parallel polarizations in specific X- and Ku-bands. To obtain the optimized parameter for a C-sandwich radome, particle swarm optimization algorithm is operated to give a clear comparison on the effectiveness of ant colony optimization for a continuous domain. The qualification of an optimized multilayer radome is also compared with an effective solid radome type in transmitted power stability and presented in this research.

Microstructure of Precipitation Strengthened Ll2-type Co3Ti Intermetallic Compound

  • The $Co_{3}Ti$ phase hardens appreciably by the fine precipitation of disordered fcc Co-rich phase upon aging after quenching from solution annealing temperature. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations revealed that the precipitates are platelet in shape, lying nearly parallel to the {100} planes of the $Ll_{2}$-ordered matrix, and perfectly coherent with the matrix lattice at the beginning of aging. The high temperature strength increases appreciably with the fine precipitation of disordered Co-rich phase over the whole temperature range investigated. TEM observations of the under-aged and deformed alloys revealed that superdislocations are pinned by precipitates indicating an attractive interaction between dislocations and precipitates. In the over-aged state, thin twins are introduced in the fcc Co-rich precipitates during deformation.

Effect of Out-of-plane Retardation of Substrate Film on the Viewing-angle Dependence of Transmittance in a Display Device

  • The effect of the out-of-plane retardation (Rth) of a substrate film on the viewing-angle dependence of transmittance (TR) in a display device was investigated. When the polarization state of input light deviates from the transmission axis of the polarizer, Rth of the substrate film induces inhomogeneous viewing-angle dependence of TR. The inhomogeneity of TR gets worse for greater values of of Rth. The inhomogeneous TR profile can be eliminated by inserting compensation films, which convert the input polarization state to the linear polarization state parallel to the transmission axis of the polarizer.

  • A 5.8-GHz 1W wireless power transmission system was used for charging a smart phone. The voltage of one RF power receiver with antenna was not enough for charging. Several power receivers for charging a smart phone was connected serially. The voltage of several RF power receivers are highly enough for charging a smart phone within 50cm. However, the lack of current from small capacitances of RF-DC converters is not suitable for charging smart phone. It means very long charging time. In this paper, the voltage multiplier circuits for RF-DC converters were analyzed to increase the current and voltage at the same time to reduce the charging time in smartphone RF wireless charging. Through the analysis of multiplier circuits, the 7-stage parallel multiplier circuit with voltage-doubler units are suitable for charging the smartphone, which supplies 5V and 700mA at 3V@5.8GHz.

  • A BEM program is developed for the performance analysis of axisymmetric mufflers. In the program the sub-region method is used to deal with singularity or inner boundary. The program is applied to typical axisymmjetric mufflers such as simple expansion, extended tube, perforated tube and absorptive expansion sufflers. The transmission losses of the mufflers are calculated by the program and compared with experiments. It is found that the prediction is in a good agreement with measurement, except for the absorptive muffler with parallel lining.
