초전도 한류기 설계 검증을 위한 초전도 한류 모듈 단락 특성 시험 (Test of a Current Limiting Module for Verifying of the SFCL Design)

  • KEPCO Research Institute has been researching a Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) which is considered one of solutions of fault current problems with Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (KIMM) and Hanyang University since 2011. In this paper, we fabricated a current limiting module and conducted electrical short circuit tests for checking the validity of the transmission level SFCL design. Based on the short circuit characteristics of the second generation High Temperature Superconductor (HTS), we analyzed the short circuit characteristics of 3 parallel connected superconducting wires. The structure of the HTS wire is as follows: the stainless steel stabilizer of $100{\mu}m$ is laminated on the superconductor layer and under the substrate, both of which are electrically jointed with solder. We fabricated the current limiting module which has 40 series and 6 parallel connections and studied the short circuit characteristics of the module under various voltage levels.

  • 최근 드론은 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있고 드론의 기술도 또한 발전하고 있다. 이에 따라 드론에 대한 위험이 증가하고 있으며, 이로 인한 위협을 줄이기 위하여 드론을 탐지하는 기술이 중요해지고 있다. 하지만 드론은 크기가 작고 반사도가 낮은 재질로 되어 있어 탐지가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 소형/경량화한 펄스 도플러 레이다에 탑재되는 신호처리 구조를 설계하였다. 대용량 데이터를 실시간으로 처리하기 위하여 채널 별 병렬처리를 수행하고 각 단계에서 연산시간 단축을 위한 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 위상배열안테나와 통합하여 야외시험을 통해 드론 탐지 성능을 확인하였으며, 이로 인하여 본 구조 설계가 실시간으로 동작함을 알 수 있었다.

  • This study is aimed to compare the insertion losses of periodically folded barriers which have same folded width, depth and period of arrangement but different direction of arrangement. One is vortical to the roadside and another is parallel. The pressure levels and the insertion losses at the receiving points behind finite length barriers are measured in an anechoic room by scale model test. The measured insertion losses are compared with calculated insertion losses by 3D BEM models.

LARGE SCALE FINITE ELEMENT THERMAL ANALYSIS OF THE BOLTS OF A FRENCH PWR CORE INTERNAL BAFFLE STRUCTURE

  • The internal core baffle structure of a French Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) consists of a collection of baffles and formers that are attached to the barrel. The connections are done thanks to a large number of bolts (about 1500). After inspection, some of the bolts have been found cracked. This has been attributed to the Irradiation Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking (IASCC). The $Electricit\acute{e}$ De France (EDF) has set up a research program to gain better knowledge of the temperature distribution, which may affect the bolts and the whole structure. The temperature distribution in the structure was calculated thanks to the thermal code SYRTHES that used a finite element approach. The heat transfer between the by-pass flow inside the cavities of the core baffle and the structure was accounted for thanks to a strong thermal coupling between the thermal code SYRTHES and the CFD code named Code_Saturne. The results for the CP0 plant design show that both the high temperature and strong temperature gradients could potentially induce mechanical stresses. The CPY design, where each bolt is individually cooled, had led to a reduction of temperatures inside the structures. A new parallel version of SYRTHES, for calculations on very large meshes and based on MPI, has been developed. A demonstration test on the complete structure that has led to about 1.1 billion linear tetraedra has been calculated on 2048 processors of the EDF Blue Gene computer.

Nd:YAG 레이저빔을 이용한 SCP 강판과 STS304강판 용접시 오프셋(off-set) 위치 결정에 관한 연구 (A study of the determination of off-set position for Nd:YAC laser welding between SCP steel sheet and STS304 sheet)

  • This work was attempted to join SCP sheet and STS304 sheet by using Nd:YAC laser beam. SCP sheet has good formability and low cost, while STS304 has excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties in high temp. In this experiment, butt joint type was used to develop the tailored blank welding for dissimilar steel. Sheets which have different thermal properties. Computer simulation was conducted to obtain the off-set position for efficient welding by considering laser power, scanning speed, focal length and basic properties. The result showed that the optimum thermal distribution was obtained when the laser beam was irradiated at $0.05{\sim}0.1$ mm off-set toward the SCP sheet side. The experiment was conducted based on the result of computer simulation to show the same optimum conditions. Optimum conditions were 3KW in laser beam power, 6m/min in scanning speed, -0.5mm in focal position, 0.1mm off-set toward SCP. Microhardness test, tensile test, bulge test, optical microscopy, EDS, and XRD were performed to observe the microstructure around fusion zone and to evaluate the mechanical properties of optimum conditions, The weld zone had high microhardness values by the formation of the martensitic structure. Tensile test measured the strength of welded region by vertical to strain direction and the elongation of welded region by parallel to strain direction. Bulge test showed $52\%$ formability of the original materials. Bead shape, grain size, and martensitic structure were observed by the optical microscopy in the weld zone. Detailed results of EDS, XRD confirmed that the welded region was connected of martensitic structure.

Testing of Load Capacity of a Foil Thrust Bearing

  • In this study, the performance of foil thrust bearings was investigated by performing bearing take-off and load capacity tests, using an in-house designed and manufactured vertical bearing test rig. The mean take-off rotational speed and maximum load capacity of the bearing specimen were ~18,000 rpm and ~80 kPa, respectively. The vertical bearing test rig was observed to yield higher coefficients of friction and frictional torques than a horizontal bearing test rig under identical test conditions. This was a result of its structural characteristics, in that the bearing specimen is placed atop the thrust runner, which keeps it from being separated from the runner after the bearing take-off. In addition, bearing take-off was observed at a higher runner rotational speed as this structure keeps air from flowing between the top foil and runner surfaces, which requires a higher runner speed. The parallel alignment between the bearing specimen and runner surfaces can be maintained within a certain range more easily in a vertical test rig than in a horizontal test rig. Because of these advantages, Korean Industrial Standard, KS B 2060, recommends a vertical bearing test rig as the standard test device for foil thrust bearings.

3층 철근콘크리트 전단벽 구조물의 지진응답해석 (Earthquake Response Analysis for Three-Story Building with Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls)

  • A shake table test is conducted for the three-story reinforced concrete building structure using 0.28 g, 0.5 g, 0.75 g, and 1.0 g of seismic input motions based on the Gyeongju earthquake. Computational efforts are made in parallel to explore the mechanical details in the structure. For engineering practice, the elastic modulus of concrete and rebar in the dynamic analysis is reduced to 38% and 50%, respectively, to calibrate the structure's natural frequencies. The engineering approach to the reduced modulus of elasticity is believed to be due to the inability to specify the flexibility of the actual boundary conditions. This aspect may lead to disadvantages of nonlinear dynamic analysis that can distort local stress and strain relationships. The initial elastic modulus can be applied directly without the so-called engineering adjustment with infinite element models with spring and spring-dashpot boundary conditions. This has the advantage of imposing the system flexibility of the structure on the sub-boundary conditions of springs and damping devices to control its sensitivity in a serial arrangement. This can reflect the flexibility of realistic boundary conditions and the effects of system damping (such as the gap between a concrete footing and shake table, loosening of steel anchors, etc.) in scalar quantities. However, these spring and dashpot coefficients can only be coordinated based on experimental results, making it challenging to select the coefficients in-prior to perform an experimental test.

강 뼈대 구조물의 다자유도 실시간 하이브리드 동적 실험 (Multi-DOF Real-time Hybrid Dynamic Test of a Steel Frame Structure)

  • 하이브리드 실험은 수치해석 모형과 물리적 부분구조 모형사이의 상호작용을 통하여 구조물의 거동을 예측하는 실험법이다. 본 연구에서는 지진하중 재하 시 1경간 2층 강 뼈대 구조물에 대한 다자유도 하이브리드 실험을 수행하고 유효성을 확보하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 전용 하이브리드 수치해석 프로그램인 FEAPH을 개발하였으며, 최적화된 시스템을 구축하였다. FEAPH은 고정 반복법(Fixed iteration)과 병렬화(Parallelization) 기법을 적용하여 순차적 해석에서 발생되는 비효율적 연산을 개선하였다. 또한, 종전에 데이터 통신과 부분구조물과 해석프로그램간의 인터페이스를 간략화하여 하이브리드 시스템 구성을 최적화 하였다. 그 결과, 입력 가진시간(30초) 대비 약 10%의 실험시간이 소요되었다. 시스템의 신뢰성을 검증하고 선형실험과 강 뼈대 구조물의 동적거동을 예측하기 위해 비선형 실험을 수행하였으며 수치해석과의 변위응답이력은 거의 일치 하였다. 그러나 최대변위에 대한 응답은 다소 차이를 보였으며, 이는 재료 비선형성에 대한 해석상의 오차와 영구변형에 의해 발생한 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 적절한 재료 비선형 모델과 알고리즘의 개선이 이루어지면, 실시간 하이브리드 시스템은 구조물의 동적거동을 예측하는데 유용하게 활용될 것이며, 추후 진동대 실험을 대체할 수 있는 효과적인 실험 방법이 될 것으로 판단된다.

Mechanism of ovalling vibrations of cylindrical shells in cross flow

  • The mechanism of wind-induced ovalling vibrations of cylindrical shells is numerically investigated by using a vortex method. The subject of this paper is limited to a two-dimensional structure in the subcritical regime. The aerodynamic stability of the ovalling vibrations in the second to fourth circumferential modes is discussed, based on the results of a forced-vibration test. In the analysis, two modal configurations are considered; one is symmetric and the other is anti-symmetric with respect to a diameter parallel to the flow direction. The unsteady pressures acting on a vibrating cylinder are simulated and the work done by them for one cycle of a harmonic motion is computed. The effects of a splitter plate on the flow around the cylinder as well as on the aerodynamic stability of the ovalling vibrations are also discussed. The consideration on the mechanism of ovalling vibrations is verified by the results of a free-vibration test.

비행시험시스템용 다중센서 자료융합필터 설계 (Design of Multi-Sensor Data Fusion Filter for a Flight Test System)

  • This paper presents a design of a multi-sensor data fusion filter for a Flight Test System. The multi-sensor data consist of positional information of the target from radars and a telemetry system. The data fusion filter has a structure of a federated Kalman filter and is based on the Singer dynamic target model. It consists of dedicated local filter for each sensor, generally operating in parallel, plus a master fusion filter. A fault detection and correction algorithms are included in the local filter for treating bad measurements and sensor faults. The data fusion is carried out in the fusion filter by using maximum likelihood estimation algorithm. The performance of the designed fusion filter is verified by using both simulation data and real data.
