Estimation of Hydrodynamic Derivatives by Parallel Processing of Second Order Filter

  • Unknown parameters can be determined by system identification techniques. Extended Kalman filter method was introduced as a real time estimator of hydrodynamic derivatives but it has the problem named the coefficient drift. In this study, 2nd order filter estimates hydrodynamic derivatives in Abkowitz model In order to reduce the coefficient drift, parallel processing is used. The measured state and ship trajectory are compared with the estimated values. Parallel processing of 2nd order filter gives very similar results to parallel processing of extended Kalman filter. Parallel processing cannot not remove the coefficient drift perfectly, but it reduces the estimation error.

  • Recently, the flat display modules such as plasma or TFT-LCD employ thin crystallized panels which are normally weak to high level transient mechanical energy inputs. As a result, anti-shock performance is one of the most important design specifications for TFT-LCD modules. However, most of large display module designs are generated based on engineers own experiences. Also, a large-scale analysis to evaluate complex material and structural behaviors is one of interesting topic in diverse engineering and scientific fields. The utilization of massively parallel processors has also been a recent trend of high performance computing. The objective of this paper is to introduce a parallel process system which consists of general purpose finite element analysis solver as well as parallelized PC cluster. The parallel processing system is constructed using thirty-two processing elements and the finite element program is developed by adopting hierarchical domain decomposition method. In order to verify the efficiency of the established system, an impact analysis on thin and complex sub-parts of flat display modules is performed. The evaluation results showed a good agreement with the corresponding reference solutions, and thus, the parallel process system seems to be a useful tool fur the complex structural analysis such as IT related products.

  • A study on workflow system as an automated business processing system is done recently. However, it did not consider various dependencies between parallel tasks. Therefore, this paper proposes modeling and verification of workflows with various parallel dependencies. For this, firstly, we propose four dependencies to specify various parallel dependencies between tasks. They contain sequential starts, parallel starts, sequential commits, and parallel commits. Secondly, we suggest a method to specify various parallel dependencies on workflow graph. Thirdly, we propose a verification method to detect contradictions on workflow specifications.

  • Motion picture algorithms are realized on the multiprocessor system presented in the Study I. For the most efficient processing of the algorithms, pipelining and geometrical parallel processing methods are employed, and processing time, communication load and efficiency of each algorithm are compared. The performance of the implemented system is compared and analysed with reference to MPEG coding algorithm. Theoretical calculations and experimental results both shows that geometrical partitioning is a more suitable parallel processing algorithm for moving picture coding having the advantage of easy algorithm modification and expansion, and the overall efficiency is higher than pipelining.

  • 고성능 네트워크와 분산처리구조가 병렬처리와 함께 결합되면, 전체적인 디지털 신호처리 시스템의 계산능력, 신뢰도, 다양성을 향상시킨다. 본 논문에서는, 발전된 형태의 수중레이더 (sonar) 알고리즘인 수중정합장처리 (Matched-Field Processing MFP)를 위한 병렬처리 알고리즘을 디자인하고 다중 DSP 프로세서 기반의 병렬처리 시스템 상에서 성능분석과 함께 최적의 병렬처리 솔루션을 제안한다. 각각의 병렬 알고리즘은 특정한 도메인에서 주어진 계산량을 분산시키며 이를 통한 속도향상을 추구한다. 필요한 연산량과 형태에 따라서 병렬 알고리즘은 각기 다른 성능향상을 보여준다. 또한, 알고리즘의 계산량 분산방식 프로세서간의 통신방식, 알고리즘의 복잡도, 프로세서의 속도, 목적하는 시스템의 구성에 따라서 다양한 성능지표를 보여준다. 제안하는 주파수와 출력값 기반의 병렬 알고리즘은 상당한 계산량을 요구하는 수중정합처리 알고리즘을 적절히 다중 프로세서에 균형 있게 분산시켜 프로세서의 개수와 비례하는 성능향상을 보여주고 있다.

  • 최근에 많은 유휴 상태의 호스트 자원들을 이용한 인터넷 기반 분산/병렬 컴퓨팅은 대용량 작업처리와 여러 중요 논제들에 대해 그 유용성이 증명되고 있다. 대용량 작업이 수행되는 동안, 작업에 참여하는 호스트의 성능과 상태 변화에 대처하기 위한 실시간 모니터링 기능이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 글로벌 컴퓨팅 (global computing) 인트라스트럭처(infrastructure)로 구축된 인터넷 기반 분산/병렬 처리 프레임워크인 PDP(Parallel Distributed Processing)상의 실시간 모니터링 및 시각화에 대한 내용을 소개한다.

  • This paper deals with rescheduling on unrelated parallel-machines with compressible processing times, assuming that the arrival of a set of new jobs triggers rescheduling. It formulates this rescheduling problem as an assignment problem with a side constraint and proposes a heuristic to solve it. Computational tests evaluate the efficacy of the heuristic.

PASS: A Parallel Speech Understanding System

  • A key issue in spoken language processing has become the integration of speech understanding and natural language processing(NLP). This paper presents a parallel computational model for the integration of speech and NLP. The model adopts a hierarchically-structured knowledge base and memory-based parsing techniques. Processing is carried out by passing multiple markers in parallel through the knowledge base. Speech-specific problems such as insertion, deletion, and substitution have been analyzed and their parallel solutions are provided. The complete system has been implemented on the Semantic Network Array Processor(SNAP) and is operational. Results show an 80% sentence recognition rate for the Air Traffic Control domain. Moreover, a 15-fold speed-up can be obtained over an identical sequential implementation with an increasing speed advantage as the size of the knowledge base grows.

  • 본 연구에서는 가압경수로 주요 기기의 고정밀 열수력 해석을 위한 CUPID(Component Unstructured Program for Interfacial Dynamics) 코드의 압력장 해석을 위한 이중공액구배법(Bi-Conjugate Gradient) 알고리즘의 병렬화를 SMP(Symmetric Multi Processing) 시스템에서 고찰한다. 비압축성 후향계단 유동문제의 병렬해석을 다양한 격자 조밀도를 가지는 격자들에 대하여 세 가지 대표적인 병렬 기법(MPI, OpenMP, 하이브리드)을 적용하여 병렬성능 비교를 수행하였다. 병렬처리 성능은 해석 문제의 크기뿐만 아니라 캐쉬 메모리 크기에도 영향을 받으므로, 전체 계산량이 매우 적거나 개별 쓰레드에 사용되는 메모리가 캐쉬 메모리보다 매우 큰 경우에는 병렬화에 의한 성능 향상이 낮음을 확인하였다. 또한, 문제 크기에 상관없이 MPI 기법이 OpenMP보다 성능이 우수했으며, 상대적으로 적은 쓰레드를 사용한 경우엔 하이브리드 기법이 가장 우수한 성능을 보였다.

High-speed Fuzzy Inference System in Integrated GUI Environment

  • We propose an intgrated Gill environment system having only integer fuzzy operations in the consequent part and the defuzzification stage. In this paper, we also propose an integrated Gill environment system with 4 parallel fuzzy processing units to be operated in parallel on the classification of the sensed image data. In this, we solve the problems of taking longer times as the fuzzy real computations of [0, 1] by using the integer pixel conversion algorithm to convert lines of each fuzzy linguistic term to the closest integer pixels. This procedure is performed automatically in the GUI application program. As a Gill environment, PCI transmission, image data pre-processing, integer pixel mapping and fuzzy membership tuning are considered. This system can be operated in parallel manner for MIMO or MISO systems.
