  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of the prize money and the performance factors, based on the data of 1,000 pro golf players provided by KLPGA(Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association) for the past 10 years from 2008 to 2017. First, in terms of the prize money, it increased a lot if we compare the data from 2008 and from 2017. However, it is still disproportionally favorable to the top players and is extremely disadvantageous to the middle-low players. Therefore, it is necessary to considerately care middle-low players. Second, in terms of performance factors, the players' skill has been improved steadily based on all of the factors considered: the scoring average, average putting, the birdie average, par save, par break, and recovery for the past 10 years from 2008 to 2017. Despite the fact that both players' performance and income have increased, it is prominent that the inequality between the players in terms of prize money becomes severe, which should be mitigated by external systematic support to maintain the current level of world-class players of Korea.

  • Here, we generated maps of primary production in the coastal waters of the East Sea using sea surface chlorophyll-a concentrations (CHL), photosynthetically available radiation (PAR), euphotic depth induced by GOCI along with sea surface temperature (SST) from satellites of foreign countries as input parameters, and carried out a sensitivity analysis for each parameters. On 25th of July in 2013 when a wide cold waters appeared and on 13th of August in 2013 when a big harmful algal bloom existed in the study area, it shows high productivities with averages 1,012 and 1,945 mg C m-2 d-1, respectively. On August 25, 2013, when the cold waters and red tide retreated, it showed an average of 778 m-2 d-1, similar to the results of the previous analysis. As a result of the sensitivity analysis, PAR did not significantly affect the results of the primary production, but the euphotic depth and CHL showed aboveaverage sensitivity. In particular, SST had a large influence to the results, thus we could imply that an error in SST could lead to a large error in the primary production. This study showed that GOCI data was available for primary production study, and the accuracy of input parameters might be improved by applying GOCI, which can acquire images 8 times a day, making it more accurate than foreign polar orbit satellites and consequently, it is possible to estimate highly accurately primary production.

  • One hundred seventy four Streptococcus pneumoniae clinical isolates were categorized depending on the types of specimens, the age and the gender, respectively. All isolates were analyzed the characteristics of the multi-drug resistance including levofloxacin antibiotics. In the results of analysis depending on the type of samples, it had been confirmed that sputum was the main source of pneumonia infection because 156 of 174 strains (89.7%) were isolated in sputum samples. The opportunity for isolating the S. pneumoniae that had tolerance to levofloxacin was increased in over 51 age patients group compared with other age and male group. Eight strains of isolates were evaluated higher resistant to levofloxacin, and those also showed multi-drug resistant including penicillin, tetracycline, erythromycin, clindamycin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. In the results of sequence analysis of quinolone resistance determining region in SP32 (MIC $64{\mu}g/mL$) and SP96 (MIC $8{\mu}g/mL$) which were levofloxacin resistant strains, an amino acid substitutions were found Ser-81$\rightarrow$Phe in both GyrA of SP32 and SP96, and Ser-11$\rightarrow$Gly in only SP96. A Ser-79$\rightarrow$Phe substitution of ParC was found in both.

  • When there are background noises or some people speaking at the same time, a human's auditory sense has the ability to listen the target speech signal with a specific purpose through Auditory Scene Analysis. The CASA system with human's auditory faculty system is able to segregate the speech. However, the performance of CASA system is reduced when the CASA system fails to determine the correct position of the speech. In order to correct the error in locating the speech on the CASA system, voice activity detection algorithm is proposed in this paper, which is a combined auditory scene analysis with PAR(Periodic to Aperiodic component Ratio). The experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance of voice activity detection in environments of white noise and car noise with the change of SNR 15~0dB. In this paper, by comparing the existing algorithms (Pitch and Guoning Hu) with the proposed algorithm, the accuracy of the voice activity detection performance has been improved as the following: improvement of maximum 4% at SNR 15dB and maximum 34% at SNR 0dB for white noise and car noise, respectively.

  • A bunch of asphalt roads have been damaged frequently in relation to the rapid climate change. To solve and prevent this type of problems, many nationalities in the world have performed various researches. In this regard, the objective of this study is to develop prediction model as to the number of potholes occurred in seoul. At the same time, we have utilized empirical and statistical approaches in order for us to identify factors which is affecting the actual occurrence. The predictive model was determinded by using BHS (Basic Harmony Search) algorithm. Prediction was based on the weather and traffic data as well as data occurrence data of porthole. To assess the influences which are PAR(Pitch Adjusting Rate) and HMCR(Harmony Memory Considering Rate), we determined suitability by changing the values. In the process of the determining a predictive model, the predictive model composed Training data (2011, 2012 and 2013yrs data). To determine the suitability of the model, we have utilized Testing Set (2009 and 2010 yrs data). The suitability of the basic prediction model has been from RMSE(Root Mean Squared Error), MAE(Mean Absolute Error) and Coefficient of determination.

  • Glioblastoma is the most frequent and most aggressive brain tumor in adults. Solute carrier family 8 member 2 (SLC8A2) is only expressed in normal brain, but not present in other human normal tissues or in gliomas. Therefore, we hypothesized that SLC8A2 might be a glioma tumor suppressor gene and detected the role of SLC8A2 in glioblastoma and explored the underlying molecular mechanism. The glioblastoma U87MG cells stably transfected with the lentivirus plasmid containg SLC8A2 (U87MG-SLC8A2) and negative control (U87MG-NC) were constructed. In the present study, we found that the tumorigenicity of U87MG in nude mice was totally inhibited by SLC8A2. Overexpression of SLC8A2 had no effect on cell proliferation or cell cycle, but impaired the invasion and migration of U87MG cells, most likely through inactivating the extracellular signal-related kinases (ERK)1/2 signaling pathway, inhibiting the nuclear translocation and DNA binding activity of nuclear factor kappa B ($NF-{\kappa}B$), reducing the level of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA)-its receptor (uPAR) system (ERK1/2-$NF-{\kappa}B$-MMPs/uPA-uPAR), and altering the protein levels of epithelial to mesenchymal transitions (EMT)-associated proteins E-cardherin, vimentin and Snail. In addition, SLC8A2 inhibited the angiogenesis of U87MG cells, probably through combined inhibition of endothelium-dependent and endothelium-nondependent angiogenesis (vascular mimicry pattern). Totally, SLC8A2 serves as a tumor suppressor gene and inhibits invasion, angiogenesis and growth of glioblastoma.

  • Quinolone-resistant Salmonella strains were isolated from patient samples, and several quinolone-sensitive strains were used to analyze mutations in the quinolone resistance-determining region (QRDR) of gyrA, gyrB, parC, and parE and to screen for plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance. Among the 21 strains that showed resistance to nalidixic acid and ciprofloxacin (MIC 0.125-2.0 μg/ml), 17 strains had a mutation in QRDR codon 87 of gyrA, and 3 strains had a single mutation (Ser83 → Phe). Another cause of resistance, efflux pump regulation, was studied by examining the expression of acrB, ramA, marA, and soxS. Five strains, including Sal-KH1 and Sal-KH2, showed no increase in relative expression in an analysis using the qRT-PCR method (p < 0.05). In order to determine the genes involved in the resistance, the Sal-9 isolate that showed decreased susceptibility and did not contain a mutation in the gyrA QRDR was used to make the STM (MIC 8 μg/ml) and STH (MIC 16 μg/ml) ciprofloxacin-resistant mutants. The gyrA QRDR Asp87 → Gly mutation was identified in both the STM and STH mutants by mutation analysis. qRT-PCR analysis of the efflux transporter acrB of the AcrAB-TolC efflux system showed increased expression levels in both the STM (1.79-fold) and STH (2.0-fold) mutants. In addition, the expression of the transcriptional regulator marA was increased in both the STM (6.35-fold) and STH (21.73-fold) mutants. Moreover, the expression of soxS was increased in the STM (3.41-fold) and STH (10.05-fold) mutants (p < 0.05). Therefore, these results indicate that AcrAB-TolC efflux pump activity and the target site mutation in gyrA are involved in quinolone resistance.
