  • Books in libraries can be highly refined information. Google invests digitization of books in libraries. But the digitization of books that has a variety of interests, coupled with several problems, including class action, in addition the many critical discussions are underway. Korea pushed the national digitization projects, what are libraries' digitizing their collection of many books. Of course, in publishing and digitization of the target is limited to books published ahead of Google. However, the Library Act was amended for the reposition of online materials, but only in the ways that Google's case is different. Library Act permits collection of online resources through the library to allow, the legislation can be considered as leading act. However, online data is publicly not available through the Internet, so this service hae limited means and range unlike Google. This paper, the digitization of books in the library due to copyright, examines the legal issues looking for the desirable solution. Physical library's main role had been kept the book, but we use the book in terms of policies needed to consider. To overcome these limitations of Copyright Act, this paper researches the relation of Google Book Search in our Copyright Act, and considers introduction as the fair use doctrine and the digital repository system.

  • Among the numerous duties of a librarian in a library, the work of arranging books is a job that the librarian has to do one by one. Thus, the cost of labor and time is large. In order to solve this problem, the interest in book-arranging robots based on artificial intelligence has recently increased. In this paper, we propose the K-ACO algorithm, which is the shortest path algorithm for multi-stops that can be applied to the library book arrangement robots. The proposed K-ACO algorithm assumes multiple robots rather than one robot. In addition, the K-ACO improves the ANT algorithm to create K clusters and provides the shortest path for each cluster. In this paper, the performance analysis of the proposed algorithm was carried out from the perspective of book arrangement time. The proposed algorithm, the K-ACO algorithm, was applied to a university library and compared with the current book arrangement algorithm. Through the simulation, we found that the proposed algorithm can allocate fairly, without biasing the work of arranging books, and ultimately significantly reduce the time to complete the entire work. Through the results of this study, we expect to improve quality services in the library by reducing the labor and time costs required for arranging books.

  • It hasn't been long time since English language was introduced in Korea. At the end of the 18th century the importance of the way of using English properly started to be recognized as Chosun (former country in Korean peninsula) began to conclude a treaty with foreign countries. A lot of Koreans could learn the western culture by the acquired knowledge of English. One of the main factors opening the secluded nation to the world was the member of missionary from outside of Korea. As the number of missionaries increased those who already came to Korea found the necessity of wiring a sort of guidebook of Korean language for the newly dispatched missionaries. The book $\ulcorner$Korean English Grammar$\lrcorner$(written by Horace Grant Underwood in 1890), was the first one that linguistically compared the part of speech and the clausal structures of Korean and English. The revised one of the same book was written by the son, Horace Horton Underwood, in 1914. The revised one newly included the phonetic aspect of Korean language. In this paper the phonetic part of the book will be considered carefully in order to find how recent phonetic methodology has been applied to account for the Korean phonetic features.

  • In this paper, we design and implement A4 sized, web-based POP(Print On Demand) system using multi-layer technique. We Propose the framework of POP system, which uses multi-layer technique, uses highly accessible web-service, produces template, enables a user to easily edit, and allows the user to instantly print edited files. This system will be widely used in web-based electronic publication and e-book.

  • As the number of channels and programs are increasing dramatically, a viewer seriously needs to book a program at the very time of watching its promotion program by "only one time" pressing remote controller's button. The program reserving system requiring to search a program via EPG is usually hard to operate and some researches that allow a viewer to book a program via its promotion program require additional heavy facilities such as image processing or ultra-frequency recognizing systems. In this paper, a new program reservation system is introduced. the system allows a viewer to book a program via its promotion program. The system is conformable to MHP (which is the data service standard most widely adopted in the world) so that the broadcasting stations need no additional equipments to implement it as long as they follow the MHP standard.

  • In order to identify scanned cartoon books which are illegally distributed, the copyright project granted from the Korea Copyright Commission (Project title: Identification and Copy Protection Technology of Scanned Text/Comic Books) secured basic solutions for scanned cartoon books. The purpose of this paper is to propose a performance evaluation standard with essential items required for developing technology to identify whether a comic book is illegally scanned and distributed. For this purpose, types of scanned comic books which are illegally distributed through webhard sites are analysed, the transformed factors are classified and major detail items of the factors are identified.

  • As e-books have been becoming common, the market for digital textbooks also has been expected to grow rapidly. In this paper, we introduce our experience of developing interactive e-books with Unity3D, and the result of user's experiment of using the books. The e-books are targeted to the lower grades in elementary schools, and they are a series of a fairy tale story with educational information on flat tide. They support rich user interactions such as dragging and clicking objects and rich media including 3D animations, videos, pictures, and augmented reality. We separate educational information from the main story in order to meet some incompatible issues among story, education, and user interaction. We conducted user experiments with twenty four 4th grade students and 95.8% (23 from 24) of them liked the e-books. They also thought the e-books would help them study about flat tide and sea creatures in there.

  • This paper is studied in order to develop the models that are appropriate for the procurement of electronic books at the school libraries. To develop the model, the following factors were reviewed: the characteristics of an electronic book, the factor analysis that affect the electronic book price, use case, environment, the role of government for the price decision model and procurement method. The models were proposed based on the above analysis and review. In addition, the proposed models reflect various opinions that the school libraries can apply.

  • This research started from the premise that Jacques Perret, "Savoyard gentleman" of the 17th century - whose only legacy consists of Des fortifications et artifices, a book of fortified town designs - is still an elusive figure in the history of architecture and deserves to be further investigated. In particular, attention needs to be paid to the lack of any attempt by scholars to define his actual professional status and cultural background: was he an architect, an engineer, a professional or an amateur? The intention of this paper is therefore to shed some light on this question by examining selected contents of his book describing five projects of fortified towns. Plates and descriptions are carefully analyzed related to the engineering (defensive structures) and architectural (city layouts, buildings) content. The figure that emerges is that of an articulate personality who does not fit either in the architectural or in the military engineering professional world. In the field of engineering, he simultaneously demonstrated the competence of a professional and the na$\ddot{i}$vety of an immature technician, while in the field of architecture he showed an advanced creativity alongside several technical and theoretical misunderstandings. From the analysis in this study, the assumption is formulated that Jacques Perret was a connoisseur, i.e. an erudite without any direct involvement in real professional activity. This work is intended to provide a hypothesis for further researches that, hopefully, will deepen our understanding of several other aspects of Perret's complex identity and work.

  • This paper presents an edutainment robot for young children. The edutainment robot called 'Mon-e' has developed by the Central R&D Laboratory at KT. The main services of the Mon-E robot are autonomous moving service, object card and story book telling service and videophone service. The RFID technology was introduced for easy interface to young children. The face of Mon-E robot is mounted with an RFID reader. The RFID tag is pasted on story book and object card. If you approach a book or an object card to the face of Mon-E, the Mon-E robot recognizes the identified code and plays its service. In autonomous moving, if the Mon-E robot meets obstacles, it moves back and turns left or right or half rotation. In videophone service, if young children approach an RFID card to the Mon-E, the Mon-E can make a call to the specific number, which is contained in the RFID card. The developed Mon-E robot has tested in real world environment and is evaluated young children and their parents. In the result of evaluation, the feeling of satisfaction was high to main services of Mon-E robot.
