A control panel layout system was developed to generate an ergrnomically sound panel design. A constraint satisfaction concept was introduced as a framework of incorporating diverse ergonomic design guidelines into the panel layout. An efficient search algorithm which can find a constraint satisfaction solution within a reasonable time was developed based on preprocess and look ahead procedures with the backjumping technique. The proto- type panel layaout system was developed on a SPARC workstation. The constraint satisfaction algorithm was programmed in C language with Motif as a GUI tool under the X-windows environment. The effectiveness of the prototype paned layout system was examined by a case study.
In the case of free-form buildings, it is difficult to reuse the form for panel production because the shape and size of the interior and exterior panels of the building are different. In general, it is a free-form concrete panel (FCP) production technology using the existing plywood formwork, and the form is produced in a different shape each time and is discarded after only one use. The production of these disposable forms requires enormous resources, including materials, labor and time. Hence, it is necessary to develop innovative forms that can be reused for sustainable FCP construction. In this study, a technology has been developed that combines 3D Plastering Technique (3DPT) to produce FCP. By applying this technology to free-form building projects, the time and cost required for FCP production can be reduced. However, specific studies on the production process for this technology have not been done yet. Therefore, the objective of this study is a basic study of free-form concrete panel production process using 3D plastering technique.
Objectives: A fit test panel is needed to identify the fit performance of a respirator and its face seal. This is a criterion for selecting subjects that can represent the facial characteristics of users. Although anthropometry data has been developed for people in United States and China it is not yet present in Korea. This study aimed to develop a Korean fit test panel and test headform. Methods: For the 7th and 8th waves of the Size Korea anthropometry data, facial measurements of 11,429 people aged 15 to 69 years were used for analysis. PCA and bivariate panel were classified using the ISO16976-2:2022(E) anthropometrics analysis method. Based on this result, a static headform was developemed and a fit test chamber was constructed. Results: Of the 11,429 Korean people used for principal component analysis, 11,300 were included in the ellipse, marking an acceptance rate of 98.87% on PCA panel. The face types were classified into five types. Among them, a large, medium, and small static headform were printed using a 3D printer. In addition, 10,985 people (96.12%) were included in the bivariate panel based on face length and face width. The y-axis (face length) boundary was 97.87 to 134.59 mm, and the x-axis (face width) boundary was 120.75 to 158.23 mm. Conclusions: Compared to the ISO analysis, the Korean principal component was narrower in the width item (PC1) and longer in the length item (PC2). For the future, it is necessary to conduct a fit test using the developed headform and chamber device to confirm the usefulness of this Korean test panel. Therefore, this study is considered valuable as basic research for Korean test panels.
In a railway vehicle, corrugated steel panel is widely used for the floor panel because of its high bending stiffness and light weight. However, this panel shows lower sound insulation performance than that of the plate with the same weight. Especially, in a particular frequency band, transmission loss (TL) rapidly decreases and it results in the deterioration of TL of the overall floor panel. This study identifies that the remarkable drop in TL is caused from the local resonance of the periodic corrugated structure. This study shows that the frequency band of the TL drop can be controlled by the proper design of the corrugated structure. In addition, improvement effect of TL by attaching foam and glass wool is estimated by experiment. The purpose of the study is to provide the practical information for the improvement of the sound insulation performance of the corrugated steel.
A study on performance of the sound absorbing noise barrier is presented. Noise barrier of sound absorbing type is composed of the front panel, sound absorbing material, and back panel. For allowing sound path, front panel is usually perforated. The performance of the noise barrier is governed by the opening ratio of the perforated panel, sound absorption coefficient of the sound absorbing material. In this study, the effects of the opening ratio, diameter of the hole, thickness of the sound absorbing material are investigated. It is found that the thickness of the sound absorbing material must be at least 50 mm to ensure the required minimum NRC value 0.70, and the opening ratio is greater than 0.2. It is shown that the thickness of the back panel is crucial in providing required STL (Sound Transmission Loss) value. The performance of the developed noise barrier is measured, where its sound absorbing coefficient and sound transmission loss satisfy the criteria.
In present study, it aims to compare the noise and vibration characteristics between magnesium alloy and steel hood panel. The AZ31 magnesium hood panel was fabricated through warm forming process, and the noise and vibration characteristics between both hood panels was compared through the measurement of engine radiation noise and transmission loss, as well as FRF on modal analysis. The sound insulation performance of magnesium alloy was wholly superior to that of steel hood panel, even though the transmission loss of magnesium alloy is lower than that of steel due to mass effect primarily. The FRF characteristics on modal analysis indicates that the resonance frequency of magnesium hood panel is remarkably increased to higher value than that of steel hood panel. The radiation and interior noise of magnesium panel even without acoustic hood insulation were remarkably lower than those of steel hood panel with acoustic insulation, in particular, at a range below 4,000 rpm.
Evacuated powder insulations have long been known to have better thermal performance than existing commercially available insulators, such as fiber glass and CFC-blown foam. To make a composite powder panel, a series of individually evacuated panels was encapsulated in a rigid closed cell foam matrix. The panels were encapsulated in a thin glass sheet barrier to preserve the vacuum. The thermal conductivity of the individual panel was found to be $0.0062W/m^{\circ}K$ by experiment and the polyurethane foam above had a thermal conductivity of $0.024W/m^{\circ}K$. In this study, numerical analysis using finite element method was carried out to investigate insulation performance of rigid foam/evacuated powder composite panel with respect to panel geometries such as panel pitch, panel aspect ratio and panel area ratio. Numerical analysis has indicated that more optimal vacuum panel geometries, much lower overall thermal conductivities can be achieved.
An interactive and iterative design method based on the constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) technique was developed to generate an ergonomically sound layout of a control panel. This control panel layout method attempts to incorporate a variety of relevant ergonomic principles and design constraints, and generate an optimal or, at least, a "satisfactory" solution through iterative interactions with the designer. The existing panel design and layout methods are mostly based on the optimization of single objective function formulated to reflect and trade off all ergonomic design objectives which are largely different in their nature. In fact, the problem of seeking an ergonomically sound panel design should be viewed as a multiple objective optimization problem. Furthermore, most of the design objectives should be understood as constraints rather than objectives to be optimized. Hence, a constraint satisfaction approach is proposed in this study as a framework for the panel designer to search through the design decision space effectively and make various design decisions iteratively. In order to apply the constraint satisfaction approach to the panel design procedure, the ergonomic principles such as frequency-of-use, importance, functional grouping, and sequence-of-use are formalized as CSP terms. With this formalization, a prototype system was implemented and applied to panel layout problems. The results clearly showed the effectiveness of the proposed approach since it permits designers to consider and iteratively evaluate various design constraints and ergonomic principles, and, therefore, aids the panel designer to come up with an ergonomically sound control panel layout.
Recently, framed structure is increasingly being used as apartment structure due to the advantages during remodeling. Therefore, the use of lightweight panel as separating wall is increasing. To construct lightweight panel structures with sound insulation performance appropriate to the conditions of each field, measurement of sound reduction index(SRI) through panel structures should be performed. In this study, measurement of SRI through 46 kinds of panel structures was performed in the condition of various factors such as surface density, air space and absorber. The result showed that SRI of panel structures was generally higher by increasing of surface density. In the case of double panel with no absorber, SRI at below critical frequency was gradually increased according to rise of air space. Double panel with absorber make remarkable improvement in SRI at low frequency, but there is a little difference compared with SRI of double panel with no absorber over critical frequency.
