  • A series of functionalized furans were synthesized by way of a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of 2,3,5-trisubstituted furans with aryl chlorides through C-H bond cleavages at C-4 position. The feature of the reaction was facilitative preparation of furan derivatives with good functional group tolerance. All reactions gave the desired products in moderate to good yields in the presences of $BuAd_2P$ and t-BuOK in DMF at $120^{\circ}C$ after 15 h.

  • Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of neopentyloxysulfonylphenyl bromides with arylboronic acids provided a variety of neopentyl biphenylsulfonates in good yields. 2-Bromo- and 4-bromobenzenesulfonates underwent the coupling reaction more rapidly than 3-bromobenzenesulfonate, while chlorobenzenesulfonate did not produce the coupling product under the standard reaction conditions.

  • Spiro[fluorene-9,4'-[4H]indeno[1,2-b]furan] was synthesized, and its $\pi$-conjugation was efficiently elongated using palladium-catalyzed C-H arylation of a furan moiety. The resulting $\pi$-conjugated compounds showed intense fluorescence and extremely high thermal stability.

  • Total synthesis of ($\pm$)-homoepibatidine (2), which contains the 8-azabicyclo[3.2.1] octane ring system, was achieved by using palladium-catalyzed Heck-type coupling reaction from 3.

  • Good-to-excellent yields of 2,3-Disubstituted norbornenes (or norbornanes) were obtained using a Pd/Cu catalyzed three-component ternary coupling reaction of aryl halides, norbornadiene (or norbornene), and alkynols in toluene at $100{\circ}C$ in the presence of 5.5 M NaOH as a base and benzyltriethylammonium chloride as a phase transfer catalyst. The results of experiments using various aromatic halides suggest that the ternary coupling reaction is promoted by bromide.

  • New Oligothiophene derivatives having liquid crystalline property have been designed, synthesized and characterized. New oligothiophene derivatives were prepared by a palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction via zinc-substituted thiophene. The structures of materials were characterized by various spectroscopies. The new obtained oligothiophene derivatives showed high thermal stability above 300 $^{\circ}C$ and exhibited several transition temperatures, evidence of mesophase. In field-effect transistors, a charge carrier mobility of 1.9 x $10^{-2}$ $cm^2$/Vs was observed.
