  • Injection molding process factors such as molding temperature, injection pressure, flow rate and flow velocity, must be controlled properly in filling and packing phases in the injection molding process. In this study, effects of these factors on the injection molding were investigated through the flow analysis fur the filling and packing phases. Molding troubles like flow mark, weld line, sink mark, short shot and warpage can be caused by these injection molding process factors. Among them, the short shot was caused by that the packing pressure could not reach properly to the filling end part in the packing phase and hence the flow rate could not be supplied to the full. In addition, as the flow rate for the volumetric shrinkage during the frozen phase could not be supplied properly by the packing pressure, the short shot appeared. Here, the volumetric shrinkage reduced with increasing the packing pressure and also the warpage of molded part increased with increasing the packing pressure.

  • Hydrophilic treatment of the packing materials in a cooling tower has been made by the ion assisted reaction (IAR) method to increase the wettability of the packing materials. The effects of hydrophilic treatment of packing materials on the performance of a cooling tower have been investigated in a wide range of operating parameters, such as water flow rate, air flow rate, and the water inlet temperature. A pilot cooling tower has been designed and built to model a counter-flow cooling tower. The results obtained indicate that the packing characteristic value with hydrophilic packing could be substantially increased by 6∼19.3% than that with conventional packing in the operating ranges considered. The correlations of the packing characteristic value as a function of water-to-air ratio are suggested for a counter-flow cooling tower with hydrophilic packing as well as with conventional packing.

  • The study was carried out to demonstrate the superiority of used packing in view of energy saving and efficiency of mass transfer, comparing with conventional packing. The results are as follows : 1. Owing to low Pressure drop under high load. 25mm NSW-ring, pp. can cause energy saving 2. The unique magnitudes of used packing are as follows $C_G$=5.78, m=0.67, n=0.46 3. Used packing can make high efficiency including energy saving because of low pres sure drop per the number of transfer unit. To rate the characteristic of packing, It should be carried out that the measurement of pressure drop per packing height and per the number of transfer unfit. This study demonstrated the superiority of used packing by carring out above experiment and could be used as basic reference for design and predicting efficiency of packing tower which is tilled with same packing.

  • Biofilters for the removal of methane using tobermolite, perlite and polyurethane as packing materials have been undergoing recent development. The effects of these packing materials on methane oxidation activity were evaluated in this study. Mixed methanotrophs (consortia A, B, C and D) from wetland and landfill soils were used as the inoculum sources. The influences of packing materials, consisting of tobermolite, perlite, and polyurethane, on the methane oxidation rate and methanotrophic bio-mass, were estimated. When perlite was added into the methanotrophic cultures, the methane oxidation rate was more than twice that of the control (without packing materials), and the methanotrophic biomass increased more than 10 fold. The ratio of methanotrophic bacteria to total bacteria under with tobermolite packing material was higher than the control and the other packing materials, indicating that tobermolite can serve as a specific packing material where dominance of methanotrophs is desired. Therefore, perlite and tobermolite provide habitats which increase the activity of methanotrophic bacteria, and these packing materials are promising for use in methane oxidation processes.

  • A nitrifier consortium immobilized in polyvinyl alcohol was used to remove ammonia nitrogen from synthetic wastewater in an airlift bioreactor. The minimum aeration rates were 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 vvm for 5, 10, 15 and 20% immobilized bead packing volume fraction, respectively. The efficient packing fraction and the aeration rate for ammonia nitrogen removal were 15% and 2.4 vvm, respectively. With a hydraulic retention time of 0.5hr, the removal rate and the efficiency of ammonia nitrogen removal were 1685 g/㎥$.$day and 48% at an influent ammonia nitrogen concentration of 75 g/㎥.

  • Oil-absorbable nonwovens were produced by meltblown processing of polypropylene chips. In this study, experimental array and variance analysis of the design of experiment were used to increase the field repeatability and universality. Oil absorbency was decreased, as oil absorbable nonwovens of packing density and gearpump speed were increased. Oil absorption rate was increased, as packing density was increased. Also the oil absorption rate increased with increasing gear-pump speed.

  • Since the performance of cooling tower is strongly dependent on the thermal performance of the packing, the evaluations of heat transfer rate and fan power from various packing have attracted intense interest. In the present study, two new packings have been devised and their performances have been compared with those of two existing packings to find better shape characteristic. It is found that one of the existing packings, which showed high heat transfer rate and medium fan power due to zig -zag flow passages and highly irregular surfaces, should be adapted.
