  • The PWM rectifiers are capable of supplying sinusoidal current control and unity power factor control on the input side and dc output voltage control on the output side. By applying nonlinear control to the PWM rectifiers, the responses of input current and output voltage can be improved and due to fast voltage control the output electrolytic capacitor can be reduced remarkably. In addition, it is checked whether or not the current capacity of the reduced-size capacitor allows the ripple current of the rectifier. The nonlinear control technique gives a good performance for supply voltage disturbances. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified by the experiment using DSP.

  • In this paper, a two-phase DZRCD(Dual Zero Vector Modes RCD) technique is proposed to develope the problem of a conventional two-phase RCD-PWM (Random Centered Distribution PWM) which gives the power spectra of narrow band range in the high modulation index (M). In the proposed DZRCD technique, the zero vector $V_0$ is selected as $V_0$(111) for M$\geqq$0.8. Also, $V_0$ is selected as $V_0$(000) for the modulation indices < 0.8. For the unplementation of the proposed method, a 16-bit micro-controller Cl67 was used and the experiments were conducted with the 1.5kw induction motor under no load condition. The experimental results show that the voltage / current spectra is spread to a wide band range, and the switching noise of motor is reduced by the proposed method compared to the conventional random operation.

  • This paper discusses an intelligent digital redesign technique for designing a fuzzy pulse-width-modulated (PWM) control. First when we are given a well-designed fuzzy analog control, the equivalent digital control is intelligently redesigned. Using the similar technique we intelligently redesign the fuzzy PWM control from the intelligently redesigned fuzzy digital control. A stabilizability of the intelligently redesigned PWM control is rigorously analyzed.

  • This paper presents a high performance low switching PWM technique or the propulsion system of railway such as subway and high speed train. In order to achieve the continuous voltage control to six-step and s low harmonics with low switching frequency under 500Hz, the synchronous technique is combined with a space vector overmodulation and implemented by using DSP. Improved performance and a validation of proposed method are showed by the digital simulation and the experimental results using a 1.65MVA IGBT VVVF inverter and inertia load equivalent to 160 tons railway cars.

  • In this paper, a design of the pulsewidth-modulation(PWM) neural network with both retrieving and learning function is proposed. In the designed PWM neural system, the input and output signals of the neural network are represented by PWM signals. In neural network, the multiplication is one of the most commonly used operations. The multiplication and summation functions are realized by using the PWM technique and simple mixed-mode circuits. Thus, the designed neural network only occupies the small chip area. By applying some circuit design techniques to reduce the nonideal effects, the designed circuits have good linearity and large dynamic range. Moreover, the delta learning rule can easily be realized. To demonstrate the learning capability of the realized PWM neural network, the delta learning nile is realized. The circuit with one neuron, three synapses, and the associated learning circuits has been designed. The HSPICE simulation results on the two learning examples on AND function and OR function have successfully verified the function correctness and performance of the designed neural network.

  • This paper describes a new pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme suitable for microprocessor-based PWM inverters. Optimal switching patterns minimizing the performance index corresponding to the distortion factor are decided in real time by numerical calculation using the microprocessor-implemented control system. This PWM method is compared with conventional methods, such as the natural PWM and the direct PWM. Harmonic analysis using digital simulations shows that the proposed PWM scheme has much less low-order harmonics than the other methods. The validity of this method is verified in experiments using a microprocessor-based control system, where a 16-bit single-chip microcontroller, Intel 80c196kc is used.

  • This paper proposes a two-phase RCD-PWM scheme which is much better than a three-phase RCD-PWM scheme from the standpoint of the broadening and linearizing effect of the power spectrum. To implement the proposed scheme and conventional scheme, the experiment based on the SAB-Cl67 micro-controller was executed. Based on the space vector modulation technique, the duty ratio of the pulses is calculated using the SAB-Cl67 and each of PWM pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. The power spectrum of the output voltage, output current, the d.c link current and the acoustic noise radiated from inverter drives are experimentally investigated. 1'hen, the performance of the proposed scheme was compared and discussed with the conventional scheme.

  • In an effort to conserve electric power, variable voltage variable frequency pulse width modulated (PWM) inverters are being applied increasingly to the variable speed control of the induction motors. The use of the PWM technique in motor drive applications is considered advantageous in many ways. For industrial applications, the PWM drive obtains its DC input through simple uncontrolled rectification of the commercial AC line and is favored for its good power factor, good efficiency, its relative freedom regulation problem, and mainly for its ability to operate the motor with nearly sinusoidal current waveforms. The purpose of this paper is to design a three phase natural sampled PWM inverter using microprocessor with simple control algorithm and hybrid control circuit has been built to implement this PWM scheme. In this system, the microprocessor can be used only for calculations directly related to motor control tasks by the design of hybrid circuit which sends PWM signals to the motor.

  • This paper presents the application of bee colony optimization (BCO) to obtain the optimal switching angles for single phase PWM AC choppers. The optimal switching angles are found in the region of 0-${\pi}$ based on the asymmetrical PWM technique. This PWM process results in improvements of the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage and in the input power factor. Simulation and experimental results are compared with the conventional PWM to verify the performance of the proposed PWM process.

  • This paper proposes an approach to attitude control artificial satellites with jet-engine. The jet-engine produces on-off thrust, which can be modelled as pulse-width-modulated (PWM) function. Therefore, the problem is converted to design a PWM controller and we develop an efficient technique for this purpose using digital redesign. The digital redesign is a converting technique a well-designed analog controller into the equivalent digital one maintaining the property of the original analog control system in the sense of state-matching. The redesigned digital controller is again converted into PWM controller using the equivalent area principle. We show a computer simulation of the attitude control of artificial satellites.
