  • A multilevel inverter employing a cascade transformer is proposed for a silent-discharge-tube ozone generating system. The proposed inverter consists of four full-bridge inverters and fourteen transformers which have a series-connected secondary. It can accurately control the amplitude of the output voltage; hereby, it improves a linear characteristic of the rate of ozone yielding. The power regulation characteristics and operational principle of the proposed system are explained from a practical point of view. High precision ozone generating performance of the proposed multilevel inverter is verified by computer-aided simulations and experiment results.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid single carrier sinusoidal modulation suitable for multiphase multilevel inverters. Multiphase multilevel inverters are controlled by hybrid modulation to provide multiphase variable voltage and a variable frequency supply. The proposed modulation combines the benefits of fundamental frequency modulation and single carrier sinusoidal modulation (SC-SPWM) strategies. The main characteristics of hybrid modulation are a reduction in switching losses and improved harmonic performance. The proposed algorithm can be applied to cascaded multilevel inverter topologies. It has low computational complexity and it is suitable for hardware implementations. SC-SPWM and its base modulation design are implemented on a TMS320F2407 digital signal processor (DSP). A Complex Programmable Logic Device realizes the hybrid PWM algorithm and it is integrated with a DSP processor for hybrid SC-SPWM generation. The feasibility of this hybrid modulation is verified by spectral analysis, power loss analysis, simulation and experimental results.

  • In this study, a carrier-based pulse-width modulation (PWM) method for two-level voltage source inverters in the over-modulation region is proposed. Based on the superposition principle, the reference voltage vectors outside the linear modulation boundary are adjusted to relocate to the vector hexagon, while their fundamental magnitudes are retained. In accordance with the adjusted reference vector, the corresponding modulated waves are respectively deduced in over-modulation mode I and II to generate the gate signals of the power switches, guaranteeing the linearity of the fundamental output phase voltage in the over-modulation region. Moreover, due to the linear relationship between the voltage vector and the duty ratios, the complicated sector identification and holding angle calculation found in previous methods are avoided in the modulated wave synthesis, which provides great simplicity for the proposed carrier-based over-modulation strategy. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a novel overmodulation strategy for space-vector PWM(SVPWM) inverters to utilize dc link voltage fully Is presented. The proposed strategy uses the concept of SVPWM based on the zero sequence signal(offset voltage) injection principle. So, by modifying the pole voltage simply, the linear control of inverter output voltage over the whole overmodulation range can be achieved easily The proposed strategy is so simple that its practical implementation is easy. The validity of the proposed strategy is confirmed by the experimental results.

  • This paper describes a new method to increase the fundamental output of PWM inverter by adding all triplen-harmonics to sinusoidal reference wave. As a result, the amplitude of the fundamental component is increased upto 21 percent compared with the conventional SPWM method, and hence the conversion efficiency of dc link is higher. Also as the commutation number of the inverter is decreased to two-thirds, the heating of the switch devices is reduced. In addition random carrier modulation is adopted to lower the acoustic noise at given frequency modulation index.

  • In this paper, dc link ripple currents for three-phase ac/dc/ac PWM converters are ana lysed in a frequency domain. The expression of the harmonic currents is developed by using switching functions and exponential Fourier series expansion. The dc link ripple currents with regard to power factor and modulation index are investigated. In addition, the effect of the displacement angle between the switching periods of line-side converters and load-side inverters on the dc link ripple current is studied. The result of the dc link current analysis is helpful in specifying the dc link capacitor size and its lifetime estimation.

  • The conventional pulse width modulation dc to at inverters have a defect that all power devices are switched at high switching frequency. Therefore switching losses are significant. This paper proposed a dual-stage inverter that full bridge switches are operating at low output frequency while a high switching frequency are performed by a pre-inverter switch. The proposed inverter is shown to have small switching losses. Simulation and experiments are performed for verification.

  • In realizing a three-level GTO inverter, we should keep the voltage balancing of DC-link capacitors and consider minimum on/off time of GTO thyristors in order to make the same blocking voltage across each device and to minimize the harmonic components of the output voltage and current. In this raper, a new PWM scheme based on space voltage vectors, by which it is possible to keep neutral-point voltage and avoid narrow pulse, is presented. Experimental results verify that the proposed PWM control scheme is suitable fur hish power and high voltage three-level GTO inverters applied to induction motor drives.

  • The carrier-based space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM), which is considered as highly simple and efficient PWM technology, can be also used in multilevel inverters. The method was originally designed for the two-level inverter and developed to the diode clamped multilevel inverter structure. however it may be noted that it also cause bad switch utilization in cascaded multilevel inverter. This paper introduces an improved carrier-based SVPWM scheme, which is fully suitable for cascaded multilevel inverter topologies because it can achieve the optimized switch utilization through the redistribution of the triangular carrier waves considering leg voltage redundancies while having the advantages of the conventional carrier-based SVPWM. Using simulation and experimental results, the superior performance of new PWM method is shown.

  • Higher frequency of energy transfer or at least energy conversion has to be used in order to reduce the size of inductors and capacitors required in the power supplies. Conventional PWM switching-mode power supplies have a limitation of operating frequency due to switching losses in the switching transistors and rectifier diodes. Means of reducing switching losses have been developed for high-frequency resonant amplifiers or more exactly dc/ac inverters. Because of smooth current and voltage waveforms resonant convertesrs havelower device switching losses and stresses lower electromagnetic interference(EMI) and lower noise than PWM converters. Therefore in this paper design equations of Classs E resonant low dv/dt rectifier with a series resonant capacitor drived using Fourier series techniques. The theory is compared with simulation results obtained for the rectifier operating at 10[MHz] ac input and 5[V] coutput.
