An Efficient High Voltage Level Shifter using Coupling Capacitor for a High Side Buck Converter

  • We propose an efficient high voltage level shifter for a high side Buck converter driving a light-emitting diode (LED) lamp. The proposed circuit is comprised of a low voltage pulse width modulation (PWM) signal driver, a coupling capacitor, a resistor, and a diode. The proposed method uses a property of a PWM signal. The property is that the signal repeatedly transits between a low and high level at a certain frequency. A low voltage PWM signal is boosted to a high voltage PWM signal through a coupling capacitor using the property of the PWM signal, and the boosted high voltage PWM signal drives a p-channel metal oxide semiconductor (PMOS) transistor on the high side Buck converter. Experimental results show that the proposed level shifter boosts a low voltage (0 to 20 V) PWM signal at 125 kHz to a high voltage (370 to 380 V) PWM signal with a duty ratio of up to 0.9941.

  • This paper presents a new technique to generate the 1-bit signal by decoding Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal to a binary file before programming onto the ROM. Since each PWM signal requires only 1-bit digital signal, PWM signal and other forms of digital signal related to multi-bit can be simply generated. The results demonstrate that using this new technique to generate the PWM signal can simplify the process and hardware complication. Moreover, the signal's data and frequency can be easily modified by programming the data onto the ROM and using the counter, respectively, which can reduce the size of the circuit and make the PCB easier.

  • It is suggested that the PWM inverter is controlled by Digital Software Programming. VVVF(Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) inverter control being used by PWM control for driving the motor with speed-varying, makes the PWM pattern with calculating the output voltage and frequency, and with controlling the carrier and signal, so actually this method is difficult to correspond with driving the motor by using voltage-varying and frequency-varying. Therefore this research suggested the new algorithm controlled by micro processor which is already stored by various PWM form of output voltage by using fundamental data of the carrier and signal. The PWM wave can be controlled with real time by using extra hardware and digital software and to speed up program processing, the control signals to switch the power semi-conductor of three phase PWM inverter, simultaneously use the output signal by microprocessor and extra hardware, and control signal by software. In the end, this method was proved by applying to Three Phase Voltage-type Inverter.

  • The output characteristics of VSI by transistor depend upon bias signal with drive circuit. As the CTI is one of the VSI, takes case PWM output voltage. This Inverter operation is based upon position and negative of sinusoldal PWM signal by carrier triangular wave and compared sine one. Besides, the Inverter operation system required digital signal for microprocessor, sampling method of Inverter driver signals study for get rid of generated signal is error. In the paper, the method of 3 level PWM signal for CTI was studied. This method of signals depend upon caculated switching position of natural sampling with $10^{-6}$ modulation error for time flowchart programs.

  • Conventional space vector pulse width modulation based asymmetrical dual inverter configuration produces high common mode voltage (CMV) variations. This CMV causes the flow of common mode current, which adversely affects the motor bearings and electromagnetic interference of nearby electronic systems. In this study, a simple and generalized carrier based pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is proposed for dual inverter configuration. This simple approach generates various continuous and discontinuous modulating signals based PWM algorithms. With the application of the discontinuous modulating signal based PWM algorithm to the asymmetrical dual inverter configuration, the CMV can be reduced with a slightly improved quality of output voltage. The performance of the continuous and discontinuous modulating signals based PWM algorithms is explored through both theoretical and experimental studies. Results show that the discontinuous modulating signal based PWM algorithm efficiently reduces the CMV and switching losses.

  • 본 논문에서는, 고조파 제거를 위해 PWM 기법을 사용할 때 회로의 구성이 복잡해지고, 제어가 어렵다는 단점을 개선하기 위하여 기준 신호와 부하의 기준 모델(Model)에서 유도된 궤환 신호를 폐루프 처리하여 비교함으로써 인버터의 게이팅 신호를 발생하는 MRA(Model Reference Adaptive)PWM 기법을 제시하였고, 제어기의 구성을 마이크로프로세서 및 아나로그 회로로 설계하였다. 일반적인 정현 PWM 기법을 사용했을 경우, PWM기법을 이용하여 전원에 대한 출력 전압의 비가 낮기 때문에 발생되는 전압 이용율 저하를 MRA PWM 기법을 이용하여 보상할 수 있었다. 또한 사다리꼴(Trapezoidal) 신호를 기준 신호로 사용함으로써 선전류의 저차 고조파를 줄일 수 있었으며, 비교적 간단한 수식을 이용하여 실시간 계산(On-line computation)으로 스위칭 패턴을 발생하였다.

  • A discrete time domain modeling is presented for the pulse-width modulated series resonant converter (PWM-SRC) with a discontinuous current mode. This nonlinear system is linearized about its equilibrium state to obtain a linear discrete time model for the investigation of small signal performances such as the stability and transient response. The usefulness of this small signal model is verified through the dynamic simulation.

An Optical Pulse-Width Modulation Generator Using a Single-Mode Fabry-Pérot Laser Diode

  • We have proposed and experimentally verified a pulse-width modulation (PWM) generator which directly generated a PWM signal in the optical domain. Output waveforms were clear at the repetition rate of 16 MHz; the duty cycle (DC) was from 14.7% to 72.1%; and the DC-control resolution was about 4.399%/dB. The PWM generator' operation principle is based on the injection-locking property of a single-mode Fabry-$P{\acute{e}}rot$ laser diode (SMFP-LD). The SMFP-LD, which has a self-locked mode wavelength at ${\lambda}_{PWM}$, was used to detect the power of the injection-locking signal (optical analog input). If the analog input power is high, the SMFP-LD is locked to the wavelength of the input signal ${\lambda}_a$ and there is no output after an optical bandpass filter (OBF). If the analog input power is low, the SMFP-LD is unlocked and there is output signal at ${\lambda}_{PWM}$ after the OBF. Thus, the SMFP-LD plus the OBF provide digital output for an analog input. The DC of the output PWM signal can be controlled by tuning the power of the analog input.

  • This paper a new simple PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal generation based on modified relaxation oscillator is introduced. Its advantages of the proposed principle are that the precise PWM signal can be easily achieved with a high frequency range up to several megahertz and a low-voltage power supply. The proposed circuit can accept either voltage or current modulating signal. It is very suitable for developing into Integrated Circuits (ICs) form in communication applications. The simulation and experimental results are also depicted, they shown good agreement with theoretical anticipation.
