A Real Time Generation Technique of Fully Digitalized PWM Wave and Its Realization by Single Chip Microprocessor (전 디지털화된 PWM파의 실시간 탄생 기법 및 단일칩 마이크로프로세서에 의한 실현)

  • The pulse width modulated inverters based on fully digitalized method are becoming an industrial standard. This paper describes a real time generation of fully digitalized PWM pulses and its realization by single chip microprocessor. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique, the algorithm is implemented by using single chip microprocessor, 8097BH. The proposed method is compared with the well known triangular comparison method through experimental results, and the speed control of a motor is experimentally done by voltage-to-frequency constant control based on the proposed PWM generation method.

  • A new SRAM pixel circuit with RESET Transistor of a LCOS display module was designed for a pico-projector application. A dual-block PWM method was also proposed to realize the field sequential color system having only one LCOS panel. 0.29 inch LCOS panel in SVGA resolution was fabricated and the proposed dual-block PWM method was tested with it. Discontinuity of brightness curve was caused due to multi-pulses and it was improved by the adoption of proper mapping table. With the proposed SRAM with RESET pixel circuit and dual-block PWM method, the test images were successfully demonstrated.

  • This paper is concerned about a high speed electromagnet of Pressure control solenoid valve. Solenoid valve is controlled by means of Pulse width modulation. The magnetostatic field problem on a solenoid is numerically solved by the 2-D axisymmetric finite element method. And permeance method is adopted for analysing the static and dynamic property of solenoid part theoretically. In addition, in this study, experiments on solenoid part were performed in order to measure the magnetic force and plunger displacement. The numerical results coincided with the experimental results. As a result, the magnetic force has the linear relation with displacement of plunger and the primary factors on the performance of PWM type high speed electromagnet are coil resistance, plunger mass, and the length of air gap between plunger and core.

  • In the 2-phase excited BLDC motor drives using a unipolar PWM scheme, there exists, in some cases, a unwanted leakage current which flows through the anti -parallel diode in the non-excited phase leg of the inverter. In this paper the cases in which the leakage current exists and the influence of the leakage current are analyzed, and a novel unipolar PWM scheme which can eliminate the leakage current is proposed. The leakage current increases as the motor speed is increased or PWM duty is decreased, and as a result the output power of the motor is reduced considerably. The effectiveness of the proposed unipolar PWM scheme isverified through the comparative simulations and experiments.

  • This paper deals with PWM patterns for harmonic reduction in inverter fed traction motors and the gear changing techniques for the variable speed drive of traction motor. GTOs are used as switching device of inverter because traction motor is a large load. To derive PWM rattern which can minimize the harmonics with the limited switching frequency, the output current and torque characteristic of SPWM and SHE PWM was analyzed. GTO inverter used for traction motor drive includes harmonics in the output current and torque by the limitation of switching frequency. However, the hybrid PWM method that adopt SPWM in the range of low frequency and SHE PWM in upper frequency range can achieve less harmonic characteristics in GTO inverters. If the traction motor is driven in variable speed by the proposed PWM pattern, 7 times of gear changing is needed. At the instant of the mode change, magnetic flux and torque may be altered and the large current flow. To reduce such an undesirable transient behavior, it is also presented the technique for the gear changing of inverter fed traction motor drive operated with the hybrid PWM. The results are verified by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper intends to suggest a sensing circuit of PWM voltage for a motor emulator operated in the inverter. In the emulation of the motor using a power converter, it is necessary to measure instantaneous voltage at the PWM voltage loaded from the inverter. Using a filter can generate instantaneous voltage, while it is difficult to follow the rapidly changing inverter voltage caused by the propagation delay and signal attenuation. The method of measuring the duty of PWM using FPGA can generate output voltage from the one-cycle delay of PWM, while the cost of hardware is increasing in order to acquire high precision. This paper suggests a PWM voltage sensing circuit using the analogue system that shows high precision, one-cycle delay of PWM and low-cost hardware. The PWM voltage sensing circuit works in the process of integrating input voltage for valid time by comparing levels of three-phase PWM input voltage, and produce the output value integrated at zero vector. As a result of PSIM simulation and the experiment with the produced hardware, it was verified that the suggested circuit in this paper is valid.

EMI Noise Reduction with New Active Zero State PWM for Integrated Dynamic Brake Systems

  • Based on the application of an integrated dynamic brake (IDB) system that uses a PWM inverter fed-AC motor drive to operate the piston, a new active zero state PWM (AZSPWM) is proposed to improve the stability and reliability of the IDB system by suppressing the conducted electro-magnetic interference (EMI) noise under a wide range of load torque. The new AZSPWM reduces common-mode voltage (CMV) by one-third when compared to that of the conventional space vector PWM (CSVPWM). Although this method slightly increases the output current ripple by reducing the CMV, like the CSVPWM, it can be used within the full range of the load torque. Further, unlike other reduced common-mode voltage (RCMV) PWMs, it does not increase the switching power loss. A theoretical analysis is presented and experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.

  • This paper deals with the parallel operation of two PWM converters for auxiliary block of high speed train. The parallel operation of AC/DC PWM converter controlled by 3-level PWM switching method to operate switching devices to realize a high power factor and reduce the primary side of the transformer current harmonics is proposed. In this paper, it is presented the phase shift technique between two converters switching phase, solution to eliminate the coupling effects due to the transformer and zero crossing detection method for synchronized with the source and controller. Experimental results for laboratory system with TMS320C31 microprocessor and 10[kVA]PWM converter confirm the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper describes a fuzzy control method to control the output voltage of the three-phase Z-source PWM rectifier. A fuzzy control system is a control system based on fuzzy logic, and the fuzzy controller uses a single input fuzzy theory with its fuzzification. Analytical structure of the simplest fuzzy controller is derived through the triangular membership functions with its fuzzification. By setting the membership functions of the fuzzy rules, fuzzy control is achieved. The PI portion of the output DC voltage controller is controlled by fuzzy method. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, the simulation and experiment were performed, The simulation is performed with PSIM and MATLAB/SIMULINK. For the experiment, we used a DSP(TMS320F28335) controller to compute the reference value and generate the PWM pulses. For the transient state performance of the output DC voltage control of Z-source PWM rectifier, the PI controller and fuzzy controller were compared, also the conventional PWM rectifier and Z-source PWM rectifier were compared. From the results, the Z-source rectifier could allow to buck or boost of the output DC voltage. Through the analysis of the transient state, we could observe that the fuzzy controller has better performance than the conventional PI controller.

A Study on the D-Q Control based Output Voltage Control Algorithm and EMTP-RV Simulation of Three-phase 6-Pulse PWM Rectifier (3상 6펄스 PWM 정류기의 D-Q 제어 기반 출력전압 제어 알고리즘 및 EMTP-RV 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • The space vector control based voltage control method for a three-phase PWM rectifier requires a lot of effort to design an optimal switching pattern since a switching pattern for the switching section must be designed. In this study, a D-Q control based SPWM output voltage control algorithm was studied for the three-phase six-pulse CVS type rectifier. In the output voltage control algorithm, three-phase reference signals are obtained from the D-Q transformation based on the space vector representation method, instead of the switching pattern, SPWM method is used to generate rectifier switching control signals. Next, a three-phase six-pulse CVS PWM rectifier based on D-Q transformation and SPWM was modeled using EMTP-RV. Finally, the validity of the D-Q control-based SPWM voltage control algorithm was confirmed by comparing the output voltage waveform obtained through EMTP-RV simulation works with a reference value and confirming that the output voltage accurately follows the reference voltage.
