  • The present work aims to analyzed the transient thermoelastic stress analysis of a thin circular plate with uniform internal heat generation. Initially, the plate is characterized by a parabolic temperature distribution along the z-direction given by T = T0(r, z) and perfectly insulated at the ends z = 0 and z = h. For times t > 0, the surface r = a is subjected to convection heat transfer with convection coefficient hc and fluid temperature T. The integral transform method used to obtain the analytical solution for temperature, displacement, and thermal stresses. The associated thermoelastic field is analyzed by making use of the temperature and thermoelastic displacement potential function. Numerical results are carried out with the help of computational software PTC Mathcad Prime-3.1 and shown in figures.

Performance Characteristics of a Household Refrigerator with Dual Evaporators Using Two-Stage Compression Cycle

  • The objective of this study is to investigate performance characteristics of a household refrigerator using a two-stage compression cycle. The performance of the two-stage compression cycle was measured by varying the compressor speed, condensing temperature, and evaporating temperature. The COP of the two-stage compression cycle was analyzed and then compared with that of the single-stage compression cycle. The optimum combination of compressor speeds for a low- and a high-stage was determined. The COP of the two-stage compression cycle using a PTC (parallel two-stage compression) method was 5.85% higher than that of a STC (serial two-stage compression) method at optimum operating conditions.

  • Lithium-ion batteries used for IT, automobiles, and industrial energy-storage devices have battery management systems (BMS) to protect the battery from abnormal voltage, current, and temperature environments, as well as safety devices like, current interruption device (CID), fuse, and vent to obtain positive temperature coefficient (PTC). Nonetheless, there are harmful to human health and property and damage the brand image of the manufacturer because of smoke, fire, and explosion of lithium battery packs. In this paper, we propose a systematic protection algorithm combining battery temperature, over-current, and interconnection between protection elements to prevent copper deposition, internal short circuit, and separator shrinkage due to frequent and instantaneous over-current discharges. The parameters of the proposed algorithm are suggested to utilize the experimental data in consideration of battery pack operating conditions and malicious conditions.

First Total Synthesis of (-)-Antofine by Using Catalytic Phase Transfer Alkylation.

  • Phenanthroindolizidine alkaloid, (-)-antofine has attracted attention because of its extremely potent inhibition of cancer cell growth (Its $IC_50$ values have the low nanomolar range). The frist asymmetric total synthesis of (-)-antofine is described. An important feature of this synthesis is the creation of a stereogenic center by enantioselective alkylation using the phase transfer catalyst (PTC) and ring-closing metathesis (RCM) for pyrrolidine ring construction. This synthesis is efficient to allow the asymmetric preparation of other naturally occurring phenanthroindolizidine and phenanthroquinolizidine alkaloid.

  • Analysis of non-integer order thermoelastic temperature distribution and it's thermal deflection of thin hollow circular disk under the axi-symmetric heat supply is investigated. Initially, the disk is kept at zero temperature. For t > 0 the parametric surfaces are thermally insulated and axi-symmetric heat supply on the thickness of the disk. The governing heat conduction equation has been solved by integral transform technique, including Mittag-Leffler function. The results have been computed numerically and illustrated graphically with the help of PTC-Mathcad.

120MW급 열병합 복합발전시스템의 열역학적 효율 특성 (The thermodynamic efficiency characteristics of combined cogeneration system of 120MW)

  • 본 논문은 열병합 복합발전이란 하나의 프로세스에서 전기 또는 기계 동력과 열에너지의 두 형태를 생산하는 것이다. 가스터빈 열병합 발전 시스템의 각 구성부의 성능을 변수로 전체 시스템의 연료 소모와 각 구성부의 열과 전기의 성능을 표현하여야 한다. 전체시스템은 상부 시스템인 가스터빈 2대와 하부시스템인 열회수 증기발생기(HRSG) 2대, 증기터빈 1대, 지역난방열교환기 2대로 구성되어 있다. 가스터빈 열병합 복합발전시스템에서 가동시간 기준 10,000시간 후 성능시험을 각종 시험장치 설치 및 ASME PTC 46에 준한 성능시험으로 실시하였고, 발전소 전체의 종합출력과 효율에 대한 성능을 분석하였다. 이러한 성능시험 실시자료를 기초로 시험성능을 비교하여 성능변화 값을 확인하였다. 이 논문에서 가스터빈, 열회수 증기발생기, 증기터빈의 열역학적 시스템 해석을 통하여 이론적 결과 값을 산출하였다. 비교 대상은 전체 시스템의 생산열량과 대기로 배출되는 열량을 이론값과 실험값을 비교하였고, 전기출력 및 열 출력에 대한 효율을 이론값과 실제 값을 비교하였다. 가스터빈 열병합 복합발전소 성능 특성에 대한 시험결과를 열역학적 효율 특성과 비교하였으며, 0.3%의 오차를 보였다.

The role of adjuvant external beam radiation therapy for papillary thyroid carcinoma invading the trachea

  • Purpose: To evaluate the effect of adjuvant external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) on local failure-free survival rate (LFFS) for papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) invading the trachea. Materials and Methods: Fifty-six patients with locally advanced PTC invading the trachea were treated with surgical resection. After surgery, 21 patients received adjuvant EBRT and radioactive iodine therapy (EBRT group) and 35 patients were treated with radioactive iodine therapy (control group). Results: The age range was 26-87 years (median, 56 years). The median follow-up period was 43 months (range, 4 to 145 months). EBRT doses ranged from 50.4 to 66 Gy (median, 60 Gy). Esophagus invasion and gross residual disease was more frequent in the EBRT group. In the control group, local recurrence developed in 9 (9/35, 26%) and new distant metastasis in 2 (2/35, 6%) patients, occurring 4 to 68 months (median, 37 months) and 53 to 68 months (median, 60 months) after surgery, respectively. Two patients had simultaneous local recurrence and new distant metastasis. There was one local failure in the EBRT group at 18 months after surgery (1/21, 5%). The 5-year LFFS was 95% in the EBRT group and 63% in the control group (p = 0.103). In the EBRT group, one late grade 2 xerostomia was developed. Conclusion: Although, EBRT group had a higher incidence of esophagus invasion and gross residual disease, EBRT group showed a better 5-year LFFS. Adjuvant EBRT may have contributed to the better LFFS in these patients.

약쑥엑스제 쑥뜸방식에 의한 체간 온도 변화와 당뇨병 임상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Variations of the Trunk Temperature and the Clinical Test for the Diabetics by the Artemisia Extract Moxibustion Method)

  • Objectives : We implemented the Artemisia Extract Moxibustion Method and had the clinical tests for the diabetes with it. Methods : We implemented Artemisia extract made by extracting the vasodilator and antioxidant compounds from Artemisia-CH2C12 fraction and the moxibustion method constructed with DC Power supply, controller, Artemisia pad. single and multiple heating terminal with PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficient) thermistor. And we performed to estimate the efficiency on the questionnaire and the clinical tests with 23 cases of the diabetics. Results : We have estimated the improvement over 60% the symptoms that were the upper and lower limbs pain, frequent urination, spontaneous perspiration, thirst, decrease of body weight, and malaise after the moxibustion treatment on 5 cases among 23 cases. And the 19 cases took the biochemical check-up after the moxibustion treatment. From the results of biochemical check-up, the average HbAlc of before treatment was 8.400%, and after treatment 7.632%. The average HbAlc was decreased significantly after treatment (P<0.001). And the average urinary blood of before treatment was 0.73 and after treatment 0.27. The average urinary blood was decreased significantly after treatment (P<0.001). In addition the average FBS before treatment was 182.64 mg/dl, after treatment 161.77 mg/dl. Conclusions : We could estimate that our proposed moxibustion method was a significant treatment method for the diabetes.

Na 및 K 치환에 따른 BaTiO3의 Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor 특성 (Properties of the Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor Behavior on the Na and K Doped BaTiO3)

  • The influences of Na and K content on the crystal phase, the microstructure and the electrical property of $BaTiO_3$-based thermistors was found to show typical PTC effects. The crystal phase of powder calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs showed a single phase with $BaTiO_3$, and the crystal structure was transformed from tetragonal to cubic phase according to added amounts of Na and K. In XRD results at $43^{\circ}\sim47^{\circ}$, the $(Ba_{0.858}Na_{0.071}K_{0.071})(Ti_{0.9985}Nb_{0.0015})O_{3-\delta}$ showed (002) and (200) peaks but the $(Ba_{0.762}Na_{0.119}K_{0.119})(Ti_{0.9975}Nb_{0.0025})O_{3-\delta}$ showed (002), (020) and (200) peaks. In sintered bodies, those calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ rather than at $1000^{\circ}C$ were dense, and for certain amounts of Na and K showed rapid decreases in grain size. In relative permittivity, the curie temperature due to the transformation of ferroelectric phase rose with added Na and K but decreased in terms of relative permittivity. In the result of the R-T curve, the sintered bodies have curie temperatures of about $140^{\circ}C$ and the resistivity of sintered bodies have scores of $\Omega{\cdot}cm$; the jump order of sintered bodies was shown to be more than $10^4$ in powder calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$.

  • The positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) effect in (1-x)$BaTiO_3$ - $x(Bi_{0.5}K_{0.5})TiO_3$ doped with $Nb_2O_5$ was investigated. $(Bi_{1/2}K_{1/2})TiO_3$ (BKT) is more environment-friendly than $PbTiO_3$ in order to use in PTC thermistors. The incorporation of 1 mol% BKT to $BaTiO_3$ increased the Curie temperature (Tc) to $148^{\circ}C$. Doping of $Nb_2O_5$ to $Ba_{0.99}(Bi_{0.5}K_{0.5})_{0.01}TiO_3$ (BaBKT) ceramic has enhanced its PTCR effects. For the sample containing 0.025 mol% $Nb_2O_5$, it showed good PTCR properties; low resistivity at room temperature (${\rho}_r$) of 30 $\Omega{\cdot}cm$, a high PTCR intensity of approximately $3.3\times10^3$, implying the ratio of maximum resistivity to minimum resistivity (${\rho}_{max}/{\rho}_{min}$) in the measured temperature range, and a large resistivity temperature factor (a) of 13.7%/$^{\circ}C$ along with a high Curie temperature (Tc) of $167^{\circ}C$. In addition, the cooling rate of the samples during the sintering process had an influence on their PTCR behavior. All the samples showed the best ${\rho}_{max}/{\rho}_{min}$ ratio when they have cooled down at a rate of $600^{\circ}C$/min.
