  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation(PMR) on stress and muscle relaxation in healthy people. Methods : Sample group of 14 healthy subjects had been treated by progressive muscle relaxation for 10 days. Control group of 14 healthy subjects were not treated during the same period. Outcomes were assessed by Meridian-Electromyograph(MEMG), Heart Rate Variability(HRV), Stress Reaction Inventory(SRI). Results : The contraction and fatigue of erector spinae muscle by MEMG had decreased significantly in Sample group. There was no significant difference between two groups in the HRV and SRI. Conclusions : Further studies analysing PMR effect on stress and muscle relaxation are needed.

  • One of the most important issues in progressive collapse mechanism of the buildings is evaluation of the collapse distribution in presence of the earthquake loads. Here, collapse propagation is investigated by tracking down the location and type of the collapsed beam and column elements, from the first element to the entire buildings. 6-story reinforced concrete ordinary moment resisting frame buildings with one directional mass eccentricity of 0%, 5%, 15% and 25% are studied to investigate differences among the progressive collapse mechanism of the regular and irregular buildings. According to the results of the nonlinear time history analyses, there are some patterns to predict progressive collapse scenarios in beam and column elements of the similar regular and irregular buildings. Results also show that collapse distribution patterns are approximately independent of the earthquake records.

  • In progressive image coding, if object region that have main contents in image are transmitted prior to the remained region, this method will be very useful. In this paper, the progressive image coding based on SPIHT using object region transmission method by priority is proposed. First, an original image is transformed by wavelet. Median filtering is used about wavelet transformed coefficient region for extracting object region. This extracted object region encoded by SPIHT. Then encoded object region are transmitted in advance of the remained region. This method is good to a conventional progressive image coding about entire original image. Experimental results show that the proposed method can be very effectively used for image coding applications such as internet retrieval and database searching system.

  • We extend the octree subdivision process from Cartesian coordinates to spherical coordinates to develop more efficient space-partitioning structure for surface models. As an application of the proposed structure, we apply the octree subdivision in spherical coordinates ("S-Octree") to geometry compression in progressive mesh coding. Most previous researches on geometry-driven progressive mesh compression are devoted to improve predictability of geometry information. Unlike this, we focus on the efficient information storage for the space-partitioning structure. By eliminating void space at initial stage and aligning the R axis for the important components in geometry information, the S-Octree improves the efficiency in geometry information coding. Several meshes are tested in the progressive mesh coding based on the S-Octree and the results for performance parameters are presented.

  • In this paper, a simple step-stress accelerated life test (ALT) under progressive type-II censoring is considered. Progressive type-II censoring and accelerated life testing are provided to decrease the lifetime of testing and lower test expenses. The cumulative exposure model is assumed when the lifetime of test units follows an extension of the exponential distribution. Maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) and Bayes estimates (BEs) of the model parameters are also obtained. In addition, a real dataset is analyzed to illustrate the proposed procedures. Approximate, bootstrap and credible confidence intervals (CIs) of the estimators are then derived. Finally, the accuracy of the MLEs and BEs for the model parameters is investigated through simulation studies.

  • This paper presents a progressive algorithm for reconstructing a 3D structure from a given 2D sketch drawing (edge-vertex graph without hidden line removal) according to the user's sketch order. While previous methods reconstruct a 3D structure at once, the proposed method progressively calculate a 3D structure by optimizing the coordinates of vertices of an object according to the sketch order. The progressive method reconstructs the most plausible 3D object quickly by applying 3D constraints that are derived from the relationship between the object and the sketch drawing in the optimization process. The progressive reconstruction algorithm is discussed, and examples from a working implementation are given.

  • In this study the progressive collapse resisting capacities of tall diagrid buildings were evaluated based on arbitrary column removal scenario, and the seismic load-resisting capacities were investigated through fragility analysis and ATC 63 procedure. As analysis model structures both regular and twisted diagrid structures were designed and their load-resisting capacities were compared by nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. The analysis results showed that the progressive collapse potential of twisted buildings decreased as the twisting angle increased, but the seismic fragility or the probability of failure decreased as the twisting angle increased.

  • In this paper, we propose a lossless progressive image transmission scheme using hierarchical pyramid structure and classified vector quantizer in DCT domain. By adopting DCT to the hierarchical pyramid signals, we can reduce the spatial redundance. Moreover, the DCT coefficients can be encoded efficiently by using classified vector quantizer in DCT domain. The classifier is simply based on the variance of a subblock. Also, the mirror set of training set of images can improve the robustness of codebooks. Progressive image transmission can be achieved through following processes: from top to bottom level of planes in a pyramid, and from high to low AC variance class in a plane. Some simulation results with real images show that the proposed coding scheme yields a good performance at below 0.3 bpp and an excellent result at 0.409 bpp. The proposed coding scheme is well suited for lossless progressive image transmission as well as image data compression.

  • In the concrete structures, cracks occur in various causes and the cracks seriously affect the functions of structures. The analysis techniques of progressive crack in the concrete have been improved with the advance of numerical techniques. The discrete crack model used in finite element program for the analysis of progressive failure is very effective, but it can not be easily implemented into numerical procedures because of difficult handing of nodal points in finite element meshes for crack growth. This paper introduces one of the techniques which skips the difficulty. In this paper, the modeling of progressive failure using finite element formulation is explained for the analysis of concrete fracture. The discontinuous element using the discontinuous shape function and the dual mapping technique in the numerical integration are implemented into finite element code for this purpose. It is shown that developed finite element program can predict the quasi-brittle behavior of concrete including ultimate load. The comparisons of the analysis results with other data are also shown.
