  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary effects of persimmon peel (PP) and PP ethanol extract (PPE) on egg production, egg quality, and liver lipids in the late stage of egg production in laying hens. One hundred and twenty 50-wk-old Hy-Line Brown layers (n = 120) were fed different diets. Four replicate groups of 6 hens each were randomly assigned to 5 dietary treatments. The 5 dietary treatments were as follows: i) CON, basal diet; ii) PP 0.15, CON+0.15% PP (0.035% tannin); iii) PP 0.5, CON +0.5% PP (0.117% tannin); iv) PPE 0.075, CON+0.075% PPE (0.03% tannin); and v) PPE 0.25, CON+0.25% PPE (0.11% tannin). The total tannin concentration of PPE was higher (p<0.05) than that of PP. Egg production in the PP 0.5 group was higher than in the other groups. Egg production and mass of hens in the PPE 0.25 group showed a greater decrease than that in the other groups (p<0.05). Eggshell color in the PP 0.15, PP 0.5, and PPE 0.075 groups was lighter than that of the control group (p<0.05). The Haugh unit for the groups that were fed PP and PPE were significantly higher than that in the other groups after 7 d of storage (p<0.05). Therefore, PP seems an effective feed additive for improving the production performance and egg quality in late stage laying hens.

  • Polypropylene (PP)/talc compounds with talc content of 20wt% were fabricated by master-batch (MB) and direct compounding method using injection molding. The MB was prepared by mini compounder at $200^{\circ}C$ and the content of talc was 50wt%. The talc dispersion of the PP/talc compound was investigated by SEM-EDS. The talc was well dispersed within PP matrix in case of the MB-PP compound using MB. The rheological properties of the PP/talc compounds were measured by dynamic Rheometer. The MB-PP compound indicates higher shear thinning and elastic property than direct compound. The disperion of talc was certified by G'-G" plot, and Van Gurp-Palmen analysis was applied in order to certify an increase in elasticity.

  • Recently, The PolyPropylene(PP) Foam used as Bumper and Helmet is well known as a protective material for products. In this paper, the effect of the density of PP foams on the absorption of the impact energy is implemented. The result of the experiment has revealed that the effect of the high-density PP foams is remarkably increased compared with that of the low-density PP foams. And it also shows that the absorption of the impact energy of PP foams are greatly influenced by the density in impact velocity(220cm/s). These results are expected to be utilized for the technique of manufacturing a optimum impact structure.

  • The object of present note is to give a very short proof of Stirling's formula which uses only a formula for the generalized zeta function. There are several proofs for this formula. For example, Dr. E. J. Routh gave an elementary proof using Wallis' theorem in lectures at Cambridge ([5, pp.66-68]). We can find another proof which used the Maclaurin summation formula ([5, pp.116-120]). In [1], they used the Central Limit Theorem or the inversion theorem for characteristic functions. In [2], pp. Diaconis and D. Freeman provided another proof similarly as in [1]. J. M. Patin [7] used the Lebesgue dominated convergence theorem.

  • Purpose: Cervicogenic headache (CGH) is pain referred to the head/ face from the structures in vicinity of upper cervical spinal nerves via trigeminocervical pathway. Ponticulus Posticus (PP) and Elongated Styloid Process (ESP) are anatomical structures that cause compression of vasculature present around upper cervical nerve plexus. Recently, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has shown to play an essential role in identification of these high-pressure zones in the brain. The aim of this research is to study the association of ESP and PP in patients with CGH and to develop a hypothesis by CFD to analyse vertebrobasilar insufficiency as a contributing factor in occurrence of CGH. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 4500 full skull CBCT scans was done for the presence of partial or complete PP and length of Styloid Process (SP). Research was divided into two phases; In first Preliminary Phase, 150 scans that showed the presence of PP and ESP were analysed, and only 134 patients gave consent to fill the questionnaire containing 96 question items pertaining to symptoms associated with CGH. In the second phase, simulation of Vertebral and Carotid Artery was done using Fluent 14.5 Software and by CFD, pressure distribution on arteries was obtained that helped to identify high pressure regions. Results: Both PP and ESP showed a statistically significant association with CGH (p<0.001). By CFD analysis, both steady and transient phases of simulation showed drop in pressure due to constriction of internal carotid and vertebral artery by ESP and PP respectively and were found to decrease the volume of blood reaching the brain, 0.12 /0.13 mL and 0.06 mL respectively. Conclusions: Our analysis proves ESP and PP as contributing factors towards CGH. Hence for proper diagnosis and management of headache disorders, clinicians should have adequate knowledge about these anatomical structures and their resulting clinical symptoms.

  • In this research, an organic thin 13 passivation layer was newly adopted to prefect the organic layer from ambient moisture and oxygen. As the organic thin film passivation layer, poly methyl methacrylate thin films (ppMMA) were deposited using a plasma polymerization technique. In order to their passivation performance for OLEDs, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of the ppMMAs were analyzed and luminance-current-voltage (L-I-V)/luminance-time (L-T) characteristics of the OLEDs with and without ppMMA passivation layer were investigated. The OLEDs had a structure of ITO/TPD (HTL)/Alq3(EML&ETL)/Al. The OLED with ppMMA passivation layer showed improved L-T performance than that of without ppMMA passivation layer.

  • The server system of digital contents has to how the context information about client devices to provide the appropriate contents for each device effectively. CC/PP standard specification is an agreement for describing and transmission of the information related with a client device. In this case, the information on device hardware and software, networks and user's preference is included here. In the mean time, WAP forum defined W-HTTP protocol to transmit the CC/PP profile information of a client device to a server system. However, the client devices which use existing HTTP protocol to transmit their information cannot provide the CC/PP profile information to a server. In this paper, we propose an effective method to create and provide the CC/PP profile in the clients which use not only HTTP protocol but also W-HTTP protocol to transmit device information.

  • Electrically evoked compound action potentials (ECAP) have originated from the distal end of the auditory nerve. ECAP are characterized as the difference between the clearly large trough (N) and the following positive peak (P). N-wave occurs around $200-400\;{\mu}s$ after stimulus onset and P-wave at around $400-800\;{\mu}s$. Contrary to expectations, positive peaked ECAP (pp-ECAP) was dominated by a relatively large-amplitude positive following negative peak. pp-ECAP can be recorded from the sites on or near the surgically exposed nerve trunk in animal models and/or in cases of monophasic stimulation. This study will provide the causes of the appearance of pp-ECAP in cases of cochlear implant recipients using imaging studies and medical records and statistically analysis between N-P and P-N on the amplitude input-output function (amp-I/O) for the prediction of the possibilities of clinical tools. Thirteen children participated in the study and received a Cochlear CI-24RE (CA). ECAP was recorded using auto-NRT (Cochlear Ltd., Australia) at four to five weeks post surgery. pp-ECAP was measured from 36 electrodes and typical ECAP from 220 electrodes. There was no abnormality in the imaging study and operation finding in patients with typical ECAP. pp-ECAP was found at the inner ear anormaly and ossification in imaging study and gel-state inner ear fluid was observed in the operation finding. The amplitude of pp-ECAP increased depending on current intensities, but amp-I/O increase more gradually than in the case of typical ECAP (p=0.003). pp-ECAP is antidromic potential which can record from the inner ear anormaly and ossified cochlear. Amp-I/O also depends on current intensity as well typical ECAP. These results provide a useful tool for audiological evaluation for the spiral ganglion cell status to the value of pp-ECAP.
