  • The characterization of PM$_{2.5}$ and PM$_{10}$ concentration is considered by analysis of ionic and heavy metal component to measured suspended particle at atmosphere in Hoseo university of Asan area. The variation of concentration is studied at the periods of asian dust occured. In asian dust, the PM$_{2.5}$ ratio is decreased from 79.7% to 40.1%, whereas the size-classified mean concentration of suspended particle is increased largely. It is found that the PM$_{2.5}$ ratio is decreased relatively because the coarse particle is increased largely according to the analysis of the mass concentration to divide the fine and coarse particle on 2.1 $\mu$m basis. It is observed that the Ca$^{2+}$ion is about 40 magnifications and Na$^+$, SO$_4{^{2-}}$ ion is increased in sequence in coarse particle, whereas the variation of ionic concentration is slightly increased in the fine particle. Furthermore, Mn, Fe, Zn, and Al are increased in sequence as the result of heavy metal component analysis, and Al is shown the most increased as mass concentration.

  • This research aims to provide guidelines with the appropriate type of smart bus stop to reduce the concentration of fine dust. To this end, we divided smart bus stops into two types: closed and open bus stops. The estimated reduction effect was compared and analysed by measuring the estimated PM10 and the estimated PM2.5 at five locations inside and outside a smart bus stop located in Gangnam gu, Seoul. The effect of reducing the amount of the fine dust concentration in external space was insignificant for both types of bus stops. The different effect of reducing the concentration of the amount between in internal space was relatively significant: the fine dust concentration was 26.0 ㎍/m3 for PM10 and 20.2 ㎍/m3 for PM2.5 at open-type bus stops; whilst was 2.4 ㎍/m3 for PM10 and 1.8 ㎍/m3 for PM2.5 at closed type bus stops. Based on the findings, a closed type bus stop is recommended when considering the cost of reducing fine dust. In addition, due to the ineffectiveness of reducing the amount of fine dust from the outside of the bus stop, additional provision of smart bus stops is required particularly in locations where demand exceeds the capacity of the inside. A clear definition of smart bus stop and it's minimum standard should also be considered.

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate effects of breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) increase on visual field and readable visual field. Methods: 23 males in 20s (average age $21.17{\pm}2.19years$, body mass index (BMI) $22.09{\pm}2.16$) were selected and administered the amount of alcohol to reach 0.05% and 0.08% BrAC calculated by BAC (blood alcohol concentration) Dosing Software program. Then, visual field and readable visual field test with Vision Disk were conducted. Results: Visual field are measured as $74.41{\pm}15.97^{\circ}$, $64.98{\pm}17.93^{\circ}$, and $58.33{\pm}19.01^{\circ}$ (p=0.000) and readable visual field as $21.93{\pm}12.71^{\circ}$, $17.41{\pm}11.36^{\circ}$, $14.26{\pm}9.93^{\circ}$ (p=0.006) in 0.00%, 0.05% and 0.08% BrAC respectively. As breath alcohol concentration increased, both visual field and readable visual field decreased. Conclusions: BrAC increase with drinking could be the cause of safety accident by decreasing visual field and readable visual field, it is necessary to raise awareness.

  • To investigate the chemical characteristics of PM$\_$2.5/ in Seoul, Korea, atmospheric particulate matters were collected using a PM$\_$10/ dichotomous sampler including PM$\_$10/ and PM$\_$2.5/ inlet during the period of October 2000 to September 2001. The Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectromety (ICP-MS), ion Chromatography (IC) methods were used to determine the concentration of both metal and ionic species. A statistical analysis was performed for the heavy metals data set using a principal component analysis (PCA) to derived important factors inherent in the interactions among the variables. The mean concentrations of ambient PM$\_$2.5/ and PM/sub10/ were 24.47 and 45.27 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥, respectively. PM$\_$2.5/ masses also showed temporal variations both yearly and seasonally. The ratios of PM$\_$2.5/PM$\_$10/ was 0.54, which similar to the value of 0.60 in North America. Soil-related chemical components (such as Al, Ca, Fe, Si, and Mn) were abundant in PM$\_$10/, while anthropogenic components (such as As, Cd, Cr, V, Zn and Pb) were abundant in PM2s. Total water soluble ions constituted 30∼50 % of PM$\_$2.5/ mass, and sulfate, nitrate and ammonium were main components in water soluble ions. Reactive farms of NH$_4$$\^$+/were considered as NH$_4$NO$_3$ and (NH$_4$)$_2$SO$_4$ during the sampling periods. In the results of PCA for PM$\_$2.5/, we identified three principal components. Major contribution to PM$\_$2.5/ seemed to be soil, oil combustion, unidentified source. Further study, the detailed interpretation of these data will need efforts in order to identify emission sources.

  • In order to prepare an efficient solution for PM10 reduction in underground stations, the authors measured PM10 concentration levels every 30 minutes in the concourse, platform, and tunnel of Gaehwasan Station of Seoul's subway line 5. Through a correlation analysis of each changing pattern of PM10 concentration, the direction and velocity of diffusion in underground stations were estimated. The PM10 concentration levels were highest in the tunnel, followed by the platform and concourse. PM10 concentrations in the tunnel, platform, and concourse showed a pattern of increasing in the rush hours and decreasing in the non-rush hours. According to the statistical analysis of PM10 concentrations and changing patterns in each location, the higher PM10 concentration in the tunnel expanded to the platform, and some from the platform expanded to the concourse. Therefore, to efficiently reduce PM10 concentrations, it is essential to detect the centralized generation, diffusion factor, expanding route, expanding measure, and other variables and to remove or reduce the diffusion factor and level. Through operating the ventilation system in the right time frame while the PM10 concentration level increases, the power consumption and peak power consumption can be reduced.

  • In order to characterize atmospheric aerosols in Chungcheong area, black carbon concentration, which is known to be closely related to global warming, was measured and compared with $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations and various meteorological parameters such as wind velocity and wind direction. Multi Angle Absorption Photometer (MAAP), a filter-based equipment, was used for the black carbon measurement, and the $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations, wind velocity and wind direction were provided by the local monitoring stations. Black carbon concentration was monitored to be high in spring and winter but low in fall. $PM_{10}$ concentration was observed to be high when westerly wind was strong.

  • This study investigates weekday/weekend characteristics of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ concentration and metallic elements in Busan in the springtime of 2013. $PM_{10}$ concentration on weekday/weekend were 77.54 and $67.28{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. And $PM_{2.5}$ concentration on weekday/weekend were 57.81 and $43.83{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. Also, $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ concentration ratio on weekdays/weekend was 0.75 and 0.65, respectively. The contribution rates of Na to total metallic elements in $PM_{10}$ on weekday/weekend were 38.3% and 38.9%, respectively. It would be useful in control effectively with management of urban fine particle to understand characteristics of fine particle concentration on weekday/weekend.
