  • This paper presents a new parameter tuning method for PID controller. The Ziegler-Nichols Parameter tuning has been widely known as a fairly heuristic method to good determine setting of PID controllers, for a wide range of common industrial processes It has a excessive overshoot in the set point response, set point weighting can reduced the overshoot to specified values. It will also be shown that set point weighting is superior to the conventional solution of reducing large overshoot by other method. In this paper, we will modified the Ziegler-Nichols tuning formula by fuzzy set. These method will give appreciable improvement in the performance of PID controllers.

  • This paper presents modern optimization methods for determining the optimal parameters of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for coupled tank systems. The main objective is to obtain a fast and stable control system for coupled tank systems by tuning of the PID controller using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. The result is compared in terms of system transient characteristics in time domain. The obtained results using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm are also compared to conventional PID tuning method like the Ziegler-Nichols tuning method, the Cohen-Coon method and IMC (Internal Model Control). The simulation results have been simulated by MATLAB and show that tuning the PID controller using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm provides a fast and stable control system with low overshoot, fast rise time and settling time.

  • In this paper, we present a fuzzy logic based tuner for continuous on-line tuning of PID controllers. The essential idea of the scheme is to parameterize a Ziegler-Nichols-like tuning formula by a singler parameter .alpha., then to use an on line fuzzy logic to self-tune the parameter. The adaptive scaling makes the controller robust against large variations in parametric and dynamics uncertainties in the plant model. New self-tuning controller has the ability to decide when to use PI or PID control by extracting process dynamics from relay experiments. These scheme lead to improved performance of the transient and steady state behavior of the closed loop system, including processes with nonminimum phase processes.

  • In this paper, the control of a membrane used in reverse osmosis desalination plant by using immune algorithm(IA) is addressed. The proposed algorithm IA of auto tuning method can find optimal gains and compared with conventional Ziegler-Nichols tuning method. The results of computer simulation represent that the proposed IA shows a good control performances better than Ziegler-Nichols tuning method.

  • PID controller is being used in many servo control system. However, when a control system has variable load, it is difficult to guarantee the accurate control of the system. In the way of solving this problem, in this paper, a auto-tuning method of PID controller parameter using fuzzy rule in variable load is presented. The parameter of PID controller are decided by fuzzy rule according to load variation. The accurate control function of fuzzy auto-tuning is demonstrated by simulation.

  • This paper presents a neural network based self-tuning fuzzy PID control scheme for induction motor speed control. The PID controller is being widely used in industrial applications. When continuously used long time, the electric and mechanical parameters of induction motor change, degrading the performance of PID controller considerably. This paper re-analyzes the fuzzy controller as conventional PID controller structure, and proposes a neural network based self-tuning fuzzy PID controller whose scaling factors are adjusted automatically. Proposed scheme is simple in structure and computational burden is small. The simulation using Matlab/Simulink is performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, merits of both fuzzy and PID controllers are combined. The combined controller is designed such that the tuning of the PID controller is achieved by the basic fuzzy controller via its rule base. The proposed scheme avoids the tuning of PID parameters which is always a time consuming task, difficult to carry out and often poorly done. Computer simulations are made to demonstrate the satisfactory tracking performance of the combined fuzzy-PID controller.

  • Among various modern control theories, PID control has been well used for several decades. PID algorithms need some tuning methods which are used for selecting PID parameters. But in some cases various kinds of performance indices are used instead of well-known tuning rules, and so variable type of performance index must be tested so that controllers, output characteristics and disturbance rejection property meet some specifications. In this paper, linear conbinational type of performance index using error signal, time, control input and robustness is used to the PID control of air conditioning system. By use of the 2 DOF PID parmeters minimizing perfromacne index controllers, output characteristics and robustness properties are analyzed. Simulations are done by use of MATLAB with Simulink.

  • This paper deals with the tuning method of PID controls for process controls. It introduces the normalized process gain and the normalized process dead-time for processes based on Ziegler-Nichols tuning methods. In the case of PID auto-tuning, the first, this method applies Ziegler-Nichols tuning method and introduces the set-point weighting for reducing overshoot in the large normalized process gain or small normalized process dead-time, the second, this method is modified and includes the set-point weighting in the small normalized process gain or large normalized process dead-time. In the case of PI auto-tuning, this method is modified for reducing overshoot. This paper obtains empirical data with Ziegler-Nichols methods for refined Ziegler-Nichols tuning methods.

  • A self tuning technique is derived for PID controllers which are widely used in industries. The tuning algorithm is based upon a fuzzy indirect reasoning method and an iterative technique. The fuzzy technique is considered to obtain ease and simplicity of tuning process. The PID gains for the first tuning action are determined by a method which is modified from the Ziegler-Nichols step response method. The first PID gains are determined to obtain a control performance so close to a design performance that the followed tuning process can be made effectively. The design parameters are given as time-domain variables which human is familiar with. The results of simulation studies show that the proped tuning method can produce an effective tuning for arbitaray design performances.
