Wavelet Neural Network Controller for AQM in a TCP Network: Adaptive Learning Rates Approach

  • We propose a wavelet neural network (WNN) control method for active queue management (AQM) in an end-to-end TCP network, which is trained by adaptive learning rates (ALRs). In the TCP network, AQM is important to regulate the queue length by passing or dropping the packets at the intermediate routers. RED, PI, and PID algorithms have been used for AQM. But these algorithms show weaknesses in the detection and control of congestion under dynamically changing network situations. In our method, the WNN controller using ALRs is designed to overcome these problems. It adaptively controls the dropping probability of the packets and is trained by gradient-descent algorithm. We apply Lyapunov theorem to verify the stability of the WNN controller using ALRs. Simulations are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Energy Performance Evaluation of VAV System through Various Operating Strategies in Office Buildings (VAV 시스템의 현장 운전방식에 따른 에너지 성능평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of various control strategies in commercial buildings which have been operated by the variable air volume (VAV) system. Two buildings in Seoul were chosen for the field study. The one (D building) combined by LonWorks has the constant airflow of supply fan and the proportional control of VAV units (damper type). The other (S building) combined by DDC has the PI control mode of the supply fan and the floating control of VAV units (venturi type). In estimating thermal comfort and energy performance through control modes of PI, PID, and CAV in the supply fan, we could identify several energy efficient operating control strategies for the VAV system.

Bilinear Inverse Model Predictive Control for Grade Change Operations Based on Artificial Neural Network (인공 신경회로망을 이용한 지종교체 공정의 Bilinear 역모델 예측제어)

  • In the grade change operations inputs and outputs are highly correlated and application of conventional linear feedback control methods such as PID schemes might lead to poor control performance. In this study the neural networks model for the grade change operation is trained by using bilinear terms which can represent non-linear characteristics of grade change operations. The inverse model of the grade change operation is obtained from training and the optimal input variables are computed from the trained neural networks as well. The proposed bilinear inverse model predictive control scheme was found out to showlittle discrepancy between simulated outputs and setpoints.

  • Speed of a diesel engine is usually controlled by the hydraulic governor which uses the centrifugal force of rotating fly balls for sensing the error speed. But for a recently developed high efficient, low speed and long stroke 2 cycle marine diesel engine, this governor doesn't work well enough because of too much changes of toraring force during one revolution of engine and too long uncontrollable time due to small numbers of cylinder. For improvement of jiggling phenomena and unstability various studies are being carried out, but they are not enough for a steep load change in a small ship's generator plant or at rough sea condition in a propulsion engine. In this paper, authors propose a new method to control a fuel before the change of angular velocity due to load change by feedforward the change of load, and find that the proposed method shows quite a good control performance in comparision to the customary PID control method by simulation using a digital computer for the various load change.

Hardware Implementation of a Neural Network Controller with an MCU and an FPGA for Nonlinear Systems

  • This paper presents the hardware implementation of a neural network controller for a nonlinear system with a micro-controller unit (MCU) and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. As an on-line learning algorithm of a neural network, the reference compensation technique has been implemented on an MCU, while PID controllers with other functions such as counters and PWM generators are implemented on an FPGA chip. Interface between an MCU and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip has been developed to complete hardware implementation of a neural controller. The developed neural control hardware has been tested for balancing the inverted pendulum while controlling a desired trajectory of a cart as a nonlinear system.

  • 자동조타장치에 의한 조선을 행할 시, 선박의 정침성은 Autopilot의 P와 D값 설정에 따라 많은 영향을 받게 된다. 이 값들은 선종별로 외력에 따라 조정되어야 한다. 이 연구에서는 바람에 의해 가장 많이 영향을 받는 자동차운반선(Pure Car Carrier, PCC)을 대상으로 하여, 풍압력하에서 자동조타시 P와 D치의 적정 설정값을 알아 보았다. 이를 위하여 대상 선박을 저속항행하는 시뮬레이션을 실시하였고, 각 P-D 설정값에 따른 최대 횡이동거리, 횡이동시간 그리고 주어진 침로로 복귀하는데 걸린 시간을 비교하였다.

  • This paper is to develop the path-tracking of free-ranging AGV(Autonomous Guided Vehicle). Encorders are used to trace the location of the AGV. A gyroscope is used to complement encorders that have the error accumulation problem by increasing the distance covered. A sensor fusion technique is applied to correct the error. The path of the AGV is controlled by kinematics and PID which is obtained the data from the sensor fusion. Experimental results are presented to verify the efficiency of proposed method.

  • This paper presents the design and development of web control algorithm of continuous process control system using vector inverter. The Diameter of web is calculated, tension is controlled by PID control and the speed reference of motor is calculated at current diameter. The performance of web control in this paper is verified by experiment.

  • In this paper, we show the simple methods of designing the Smith predictor for the long dead time processes. We are using the relay feedback to model the processes in the second-order plus dead time structure. The model is able to represent a various class of processes dynamics including low- or high-order, and monotonic or oscillatory process. A PID type controller is proposed for the main controller in the Smith controller, which insure the stability of overall system. Simulation Examples are also provided to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed controller.

  • The stabilization controls of coupled tank system and ball-beam system are difficult control tasks because of their high order time delay, nonlinearity and structural unstability. Fuhermore, a series of classical methods such as a conventional PID and a full state feedback controller(FSFC) based on the local linearizations have narrow stabilizable regions. Therefore, in this paper, in order to stabilize two representative nonlinear system mentioned above, a Sliding Mode Controller based on a Real Variable Elitist Genetic Algorithm(RVEGA SMC) was proposed.
