Synthesis and Characterization of Transparent Copolyimide Films (II) (투명한 공중합체 폴리이미드 필름의 합성 및 특성 연구(II))

  • Copolyimides were synthesized from bis (3-aminophenyl) sulfone (APS) and 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) containing a fluorine substituent ($-CF_3$) with different mole ratios of 3,3',4,4'-diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (DSDA) containing a sulfone group (-$SO_2$-). The PI films were obtained from poly (amic acid) (PAA) by solution casting through thermal imidization on a glass plate. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), universal tensile machine (UTM) measurements, and UV-Vis spectrometry were used to assess thermo-mechanical properties, morphology, and optical transparency. Thermal properties and optical transparency decreased with increasing DSDA mole fraction. In contrast, mechanical properties increased with increasing DSDA mole fraction. As compared to conventional PI films, however, the PI copolymer films in this work were found to exhibit better optical transparency.

Simulation Study of VHF band π/4-DQPSK Maritime Digital Communication Modem According to ITU-R M.1842-1 Annex1 (ITU-R M.1842-1 Annex1 π/4-DQPSK VHF 대역 해상 디지털 통신모뎀의 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • In this paper, ${\pi}/4$-DQPSK modem according to ITU-R M.1842-1 recommendation Annex1 is investigated and simulated. At first, standardization and technical trend of VHF maritime mobile communication are introduced. The ${\pi}/4$-DQPSK modem defined in the Annex1 should support 28.8Kbps bit transmission rate within 25KHz frequency bandwidth. We describe the system model and simulation process of ${\pi}/4$-DQPSK modem transmitter and receiver design with RRC(Root Raised Cosine) transmitter and receiver filter. Then we suggest various graphical simulation results(time domain signals, constellation, power spectral density according to roll-off factor, eye diagram), and show simulated BER performance of the modem. From the simulation results, it is shown that roll-off factor of RRC filter affects to BER performance according to SNR and the designed simulation model meets the spectrum mask requirement suggested in ITU-R M.1842-1 recommendation.

Molecular mechanism underlying Arabidopsis root architecture changes in response to phosphate starvation

  • To cope with phosphate (Pi) deficient stress, plants modulate various physiological and developmental processes, such as gene expression, Pi uptake and translocation, and root architecture changes. Here, we report the identification and characterization of novel activation-tagged mutant involved in Pi starvation signaling in Arabidopsis. The hpd (${\underline{h}ypersensitive}$ to ${\underline{P}i}$ $ {\underline{d}eficiency}$) mutant exhibits enhanced phosphate uptake and altered root architectural change under Pi starvation compared to wild type. Expression analysis of auxin-responsive DR5::GUS reporter gene in hpd mutant indicated that auxin translocation in roots under Pi starvation are suppressed in hpd mutant plants. Impaired auxin translocation in roots of hpd mutant was attributable to abnormal root architecture changes in Pi starvation conditions. Our results indicated that abnormal auxin translocation in hpd mutant might be due to mis-regulation of auxin efflux carrier proteins, PIN-FORMED (PIN) 1, and 2 under Pi starvation conditions. Not only expression levels but also expression domains of PIN proteins were altered in hpd mutant in response to Pi starvation. Molecular genetic analysis of hpd mutant revealed that the mutant phenotype is caused by the lesion in ENHANCED SILENCING PHENOTYPE4 (ESP4) gene whose function is proposed in mRNA 3'-end processing. The results suggest that mRNA processing plays crucial roles in Pi homeostasis as well as developmental reprograming in response to Pi deprivation in Arabidopsis.

  • In 1980 and 1983, it was proved that P $D^{2}$-groups are surface groups ([2], [3]). Since then, topologists have been positively studying about P $D^{n}$ -groups (or $D^{n}$ -groups). For example, let a topological space X have a right .pi.-action, where .pi. is a multiplicative group. If each x.memX has an open neighborhood U such that for each u.mem..pi., u.neq.1, U.cap. $U_{u}$ =.phi., this right .pi.-action is said to be proper. Polarization Scattering Property of Cascaded Polarization Controllers

  • The relation between the allowed range of variation of polarization controller wave-plates angles and the respective polarization scattering properties is investigated. It is demonstrated that a nearly uniform polarization scattering over the Poincare sphere is obtained using a concatenation of three polarization controllers with angles randomly changed between $-{\pi}$/4 and ${\pi}$/4. It is also shown that an improvement of the scattering properties is obtained if the configuration angles are allowed to change between $-{\pi}$/2 and ${\pi}$/2.

ON II-ARMENDARIZ RINGS

  • We in this note introduce a concept, so called ${\pi}-Armendariz$ ring, that is a generalization of both Armendariz rings and 2-primal rings. We first observe the basic properties of ${\pi}-Armendariz$ rings, constructing typical examples. We next extend the class of ${\pi}-Armendariz$ rings, through various ring extensions.

  • Copolyimides were synthesized from 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) and 1,3-bis(3-aminophenoxy)benzene (BAPB) with different mole ratios of 2,2-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)pheny1]hexafluoropropane (BAPP). The solution cast film of poly(amic acid) (PAA) was heat treated at different temperatures to create copolyimide films. The PI copolymer films were found to exhibit good optical transparencies. The thermomechanical properties, morphology, and optical transparency of PI films were examined using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), wide-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopes (SEM), differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), universal tensile machine (UTM), and IN - Vis. spectrometer. The glass transition temperature ($T_g$), ultimate strength, and initial modulus linearly increased with increasing BAPP mole fraction. However, thermal stability($T_D{^i}$) of the copolyimide remains constant regardless of BAPP loadings. It was found, however, that the optical transparency decreases slightly upon increasing the BAPP content because of the formation of the charge transfer complexes.

A Study on the Using of Chosun-Sanhak for the Enriched Learning about Pi (원주율에 대한 심화학습을 위한 조선산학의 활용 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of pi of Chosun-sanhak and organize the teaching and learning activities to help to understand the concept of pi deeply using the analysis results. The results of this study are as follows. First, Chosun-sanhak used various approximate values of pi and those were represented as the form to reveal the meaning of the ratio of radius and circumference. Second, There were the freedom of selection of the approximate values of pi suitably. Lastly, the enriched leaning about pi need to draw a distinction pi from approximate values of pi, choose the suitable approximate values of pi and compare the method of calculation of circumference and the area of circle of Chosun-sanhak and today's mathematics. In conclusion, I proposed several issues which is worth exploring further in relation to pi and Chosun-Sanhak.

A Comparative Analysis of pi in Elementary School Mathematics Textbooks (초등학교 수학 교과서에 제시된 원주율의 지도방안 비교·분석)

  • This study aimed to derive pedagogical implications by comparing and analyzing how the concept of pi is taught in 10 different elementary mathematics textbooks, which are scheduled to be applied from 2023. We developed a textbook analysis framework by previous studies on the concept of pi and the teaching of pi, and analyzed in terms of three instructional elements (i.e. inferring conceptsof pi, understanding properties of pi, and applying relationships). We derived the need to emphasize various contexts for estimation of pi, presentation of problem situations that provide motivation to actually measure diameters and circumferences, providing an opportunity to explore the properties of measurement, and an experience the flexibility of selecting an approximate value of pi. Based on the above conclusions and pedagogical implications through the research results., we suggested ways to teach the concept of pi in elementary mathematics and improvement points for developing textbooks focusing on the context of introduction of pi and the use of technological tools.
