This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy for a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system, which contains the rotor position error information. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error at zero. For zero and low speed operation, the PI gain of the rotor position tracking controller has a variable structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. Then, at zero speed, the rotor position and velocity have sluggish dynamics because the varying gains are very low in this region. In order to boost the bandwidth of the PI controller during zero speed, the loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The PI tuning formulas are also derived by analyzing this control system by frequency domain specifications such as phase margin and bandwidth assignment.
This paper proposes an estimation algorithm for the electrical parameters of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs) by using a synchronous PI current regulator at standstill. In reality, the electrical parameters are only measured or estimated in limited conditions without fully considering the effects of the switching devices, connecting wires, and magnetic saturation. As a result, the acquired electrical parameters are different from the real parameters of the motor drive system. In this paper, the effects of switching devices, connecting wires, and the magnetic saturation are considered by simultaneously using the short pulse and closed loop equations of resistance and synchronous inductances. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can be easily and safely implemented with a reduced measuring time. In addition, it does not need any external or additional measurement equipment, information on the motor's dimensions, and material characteristics as in the case of FEM. Several experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy of a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system that has the information of rotor position error. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error to zero. For zero and low speed operation, PI controller gains of rotor position tracking controller have a variable structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. In order to boost the bandwidth of PI controller around zero speed, a loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The proposed method only requires the flux linkage of permanent magnet and is insensitive to the parameter estimation error and variation. The designers can easily determine the possible operating range with a desired bandwidth and perform the vector control even at low speeds. The experimental results show the satisfactory operation of the proposed sensorless algorithm under rated load conditions.

In this paper, an attempt has been made to design the current and speed proportional and integral (PI) regulators of self-commutating current source inverter-fed induction motor drive having capacitors at the machine end and to investigate the transient performance of the same for step changes in reference speed. The mathematical model of the complete drive system is developed in closed loop, and the characteristic equations of the systems are derived using perturbation about steady-state operating point in order to develop the characteristic equations. The D-partition technique is used for finding the stable region in the parametric plane. Frequency scanning technique is used to confirm the stability region. Final selection of the regulator parameters is done by comparing the transient response of the current and speed loops for step variations in reference. The performance of the drive is observed analytically through MATLAB simulation.
An improved stationary frame-based digital current control technique for a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor is presented. Generally, the stationary frame current controller is known to provide the advantage of a simple implementation. However, there are some unavoidable limitations such as a steady-state error and a phase delay in the steady-state. On the other hand, in the synchronous frame current regulator, the regulated currents are dc quantities and a zero steady-state error can be obtained through the integral control. However, the need to transform the signals between the stationary and synchronous frames makes the implementation of a synchronous frame regulator complex. Although the PI controller in the stationary frame gives a steady-state error and a phase delay, the control performance can be greatly improved by employing the exact decoupling control inputs for the back EMF, resulting in an ideal steady-state control characteristics irrespective of an operating condition as in the synchronous PI decoupling controller. However, its steady-state response may be degraded due to the inexact cancellation inputs under the parameter variations. To improve the control performance in the stationary frame, the disturbance is estimated using the time delay control. The proposed scheme is implemented on a PM synchronous motor using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through the comparative simulations and experiments.

This paper presents the on-line current controller tuning method of grid-connected inverter using PSO(particle swarm optimization) technique for minimizing the harmonic current. Synchronous frame PI current regulator is commonly used in most distributed generation. However, due to the source voltage distortion, specially in weak AC power system, current may contain large harmonic components, which increase THD(total harmonic distortion) and deteriorates power quality. Therefore, some tuning method is necessary to improve response of current controller. This paper used the PSO technique to tune the current regulator and through simulation and experiments, usefulness of the tuning method has been verified. Especially in simulating the tuning process, ASM(average switching model) of inverter is used to shorten execution time.

SFC(Static Frequence Converter)system has come to be used as start up drive system for large synchronous motor in many industry applications. Many papers have been presented the control algorithm for pumped storage power generation using SFC system but they did not included about start up algorithm of SFC system for gas turbine. This paper presents the field weakening control algorithm for a large synchronous motor using output signal of anti-windup in PI current regulator and the results of experiment show that the proposed algorithm is proper and effective.

DC-DC converter with chopper is seen to have problems, such as, loop instability and degradation of transient response, due to the interaction between input filter and switching regulator. In this paper, the switching regulator consisting of input filter and double chopper is analyzed, and the state space model at continuous current mode and the transfer function between duty ratio of switching pulse and output voltage are derived. The controller in this paper is designed as feedforward(P) and feedback(PI) control scheme to minimize the variation of output voltage, and computer simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed controller.
