Diffserv를 지원하는 MPLS 망에서 VC-Merge가 가능한 Scheduler구현 (A Study on a VC-Merge Capable Scheduler Supporting Diffserv on MPLS)

  • 최근 고속 데이터 전송과 멀티미디어 서비스에 대한 요구의 증가로 인한 문제점을 해결하고 서로 다른 서비스별 QoS를 보장 하고자 새로운 방안이 필요하게 되었다. MPLS는 이러한 요구사항에 부응하는 기술로 레이블이라는 짧고 고정된 길이의 식별자를 사용하여 패킷 포워딩을 하는 3계층 스위칭 방법이다. MPLS망에서 Differentiated Service를 지원함으로써 QoS를 보장하며 또한 동일한 서비스를 받는 PHB(Per-Hop Behavior)별로 VC merging을 함으로써 라우터가 관리하는 레이블의 수를 효율적으로 사용하여 망의 확장성을 높일 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 ATM기반 MPLS 망에서 Diffserv를 지원하며 트래픽의 QoS에 따른 VC merging과 Non VC merging 기술을 시뮬레이션을 통해 각각 비교 분석하고 VC merging 스케쥴러를 모델링하여 검증하였다.

The scheme to implement Rate Adaptive Shaper for Differentiated Service Network - srRAS and G-srRAS -

  • This paper has addressed the implementation of the single rate Rate Adaptive Shaper(srRAS) described in RFC2963. This shaper has been proposed to use at the ingress of differentiated services networks providing Assured Forwarding Per Hop Behavior (AFPHB). srRAS is typically used in conjunction with single rate Three Color Marker(srTCM) described in RFC2697. srRAS itself is the tail-drop FIFO that is drained at a variable rate, and srTCM is the marker with metering function. G-srRAS is the same as srRAS except that RAS receives the green token state information from the downstream srTCM to avoid delaying a packet in RAS although there are sufficient tokens available to color the packet green. In this paper, we have addressed the algorithm and the architecture of srRAS, and the scheme to implement srRAS using VHDL(Very high-speed integrated circuit Hardware Description Language) and its related tools.

A Review on Metabolic Pathway Analysis with Emphasis on Isotope Labeling Approach

  • The recent progress on metabolic systems engineering was reviewed based on our recent research results in terms of (1) metabolic signal flow diagram approach, (2) metabolic flux analysis (MFA) in particular with intracellular isotopomer distribution using NMR and/or GC-MS, (3) synthesis and optimization of metabolic flux distribution (MFD), (4) modification of MFD by gene manipulation and by controlling culture environment, (5) metabolic control analysis (MCA), (6) design of metabolic regulation structure, and (7) identification of unknown pathways with isotope tracing by NMR. The main characteristics of metabolic engineering is to treat metabolism as a network or entirety instead of individual reactions. The applications were made for poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) production using Ralstonia eutropha and recombinant Escherichia coli, lactate production by recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae, pyruvate production by vitamin auxotrophic yeast Toluropsis glabrata, lysine production using Corynebacterium glutamicum, and energetic analysis of photosynthesic microorganisms such as Cyanobateria. The characteristics of each approach were reviewed with their applications. The approach based on isotope labeling experiments gives reliable and quantitative results for metabolic flux analysis. It should be recognized that the next stage should be toward the investigation of metabolic flux analysis with gene and protein expressions to uncover the metabolic regulation in relation to genetic modification and/ or the change in the culture condition.

P(3HB) Accumulation in Alcaligenes eutrophus H16(ATCC 17699) under Nutrient-Rich Condition and Its Induced Production from Saccharides and Their Derivatives

  • Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)(P(3HB)) accumulation under nutrient-rich condition with various amounts of $(NH_4)_2 SO_4$ was systematically investigated. The results of the electron-microscopy and the solvent extraction showed that the P(3HB) accumulation is unavoidable even under nutrient-rich condition. This indicates that in a two-step culture of Alcaligenes eutrophus H16, the researches should be careful in interpreting the data of polyhydroxyalkanoates(PHAs) accumulation in terms of the carbon-source fed in the second step because the two-step culture product contains the P(3HB) produced under nutrient-rich condition. The polyester production capability in a two-step batch culture of A. eutrophus H16(ATCC 17699) was also investigated using various saccharides and their derivatives such as glucose, fructose, gluconic acid, glucaric acid, sorbitol, lactose, galactose, and mannose. The polyesters synthesized were characterized by 500 MHz$^{1}H-NMR$ spectroscopy, intrinsic viscosity$[\eta]$ measurement in chloroform and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). 500 MHz $^{1}H-NMR$ analysis showed that all polyesters synthesized generally contained 1~2 mol% of 3HV. Another finding is that the glucose utilization can be increased by changing the autoclaving procedure of the substrate to enhance the P(3HB) production yield up to 46 wt% of P(3HB) in dry cells.

전기방사에 의한 미생물 합성 생분해성 고분자 섬유의 Oil 흡수 (Oil Absorbencies of Fibers of Biodegradable and Microbial Polymers Prepared by Electrospinning Method)

  • Fibers of microbial polyesters, poly(3-hydroxy butyrate) (PHB) and poly(3-hydroxy butyrate-co-3-hydroxy valerate) (HB-co-HV) were prepared by electrospinning method. The obtained fibers were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, and oil absorption. The formation of fibers was strongly dependent on a concentration of solution. At a low concentration, the fibers contained beads which is from aggregation of polymer due to short evaporation time. The fine fibers with $2-5{\mu}m$ diameter were obtained at 20 wt% concentration. The contact angle measurement showed that the fiber had higher water contact angle than the film due to the lotus-like effect. Oil absorbency showed that the fiber had higher than the film. Specially, the HB-co-HV fiber which was spinned from 20 wt% absorbed 65% oil which is much higher than that of a normal polypropylene-based oil paper.

  • A species of facultative photo-organotrophic, purple, non-sulfur bacterium was isolated from the 47 point at west and south coast of Korea in September 2001. Separated 13 samples of changes with red color under 28-32$^{\circ}C$, 3000 lux, anaerobe conditions for 7 days cultivated in basal medium. For pure isolation from 13 samples, we used agar-shake tube method (0.4 % agar) and separated 5 strains through 13-repetition test. EGH-24 and EGH-30 was identified as the same strain through the RAPD(Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA)-PCR of strain EGH-9, EGH-13, EGH-23, EGH-24, EGH-30. Four isolates cultivated in synthesis wastewater for wastewater biodegradation test. EGH-24 was selected with efficient wastwater treating strain. Based on the results obtained from morphology, nutrient requirements, major bacteriochlorophyll content, 16S-rDNA phylogenetic analysis, EGH-24 strain may be identified as a new strain of the genus Rhodobacter and named Rhodobacter sp. EGH-24.

Effects of Temperature and Compost Conditions on the Biodegradation of Degradable Polymers

  • The effectiveness of current biodegradation test methods for degradable polymers under controlled composting conditions was studied in regards to the test temperature and compost condition. When biodegradability tests for the natural (starch, cellulose, PHB/HV) and synthetic (PCL, SG, PLA) polymers were conducted at temperature levels of 35 and $55^{\circ}C$ with compost cured at ambient temperature, the degradations of cellulose and starch were higher at $35^{\circ}C$ because of the priming effect. On the other hand, degradations of other polymers were higher at $55^{\circ}C$. In the biodegradation test at $55^{\circ}C$, compost harvested right after the thermophilic degradation stage showed higher biodegradation activities than the cured compost for both the synthetic aliphatic polyester (SG) and a natural polymer, cellulose. These results suggest that the biodegradation test conducted at $55^{\circ}C$ with the compost, harvested right after the thermophilic degradation stage during composting, showed the highest biodegradation activity under controlled composting conditions.

Improvement of Photoheterotrophic Hydrogen Production of Rhodobacter sphaeroides by Removal of B800-850 Light-Harvesting Complex

  • The photoheterotrophic $H_2$ production of Rhodobacter sphaeroides was significantly increased through disruption of the genes coding for uptake hydrogenase and poly-${\beta}$-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) synthase (Lee et al., Appl. Microbiol. Biotechnol. 60: 147-153, 2002). In this work, we further removed the B800-850 light-harvesting (LH) complex from the strain and found an increase in $H_2$ production at the light-saturating cell growth (${\ge}10$ Watts $[W]/m^2$). Neither the mutant nor the wild-type produced more $H_2$ at the brighter light. Accordingly, light does not appear to be limited for the $H_2$ production by the presence of B800-850. However, increase in the level of the spectral complexes resulted in decrease of $H_2$ production. Thus, although the B875 is essential for light harvesting, the consumption of cellular energy for the synthesis of B800-850 and the surplus LH complexes may reduce the energy flow into the $H_2$ production of R. sphaeroides.

Modelling the Hydrogen-Bonding Interactions in a Copolymer/Biodegradable Homopolymer Blend through Excess Functions

  • A recent theoretical approach based on the coupling of both the Flory-Huggins (FH) and the Association Equilibria thermodynamic (AET) theories was modified and adapted to study the miscibility properties of a multi-component system formed by two polymers (a proton-donor and a proton-acceptor) and a proton-acceptor solvent, named copolymer(A)/solvent(B)/polymer(C). Compatibility between polymers was mainly attained by hydrogen-bonding between the hydroxyl group on the phenol unit of the poly(styrene-co-vinyl phenol) (PSVPh) and the carbonyl group of the biodegradable and environmentally friendly poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB). However, the self-association of PSVPh and specific interactions between the PSVPh and the H-acceptor group (an ether oxygen atom) of the epichlorohydrin (ECH) solvent were also established in a lower extension, which competed with the polymer-polymer association. All the binary specific interactions and their dependence with the system composition as well as with the copolymer content were evaluated and quantified by means of two excess functions of the Gibbs tree energy, ${\Delta}g_{AB}$ and ${\Delta}g_{AC}$. Experimental results from fluorescence spectroscopy were consistent with the theoretical simulations derived with the model, which could also be applied and extended to predict the miscibility in solution of any polymer blend with specific interactions.

EPGA를 이용한 Single Rate Three Color Marker 설계 (Design of Single Rate Three Color Marker using FPGA)

  • 본 논문은 RFC2697에서 제안된 srTCM (single rate Three Color Marker)의 설계에 관한 것이다. srTCM은 AFPHB(Assured Forwarding Per Hop Behavior)를 제공하는 DS (Differentiated Service) 네트워크의 Ingress에서 사용되도록 제안되었다. srTCM은 metering 기능을 가진 marker이며, 토큰 갱신기능과 marking 기능으로 구성된다. 토큰 갱신 기능은 듀얼 토큰버킷을 사용하며, marking 기능은 토큰 값을 입력 패킷의 길이와 비교하여, 그 결과를 IP QoS 필드 (ToS 필드)에 마킹한다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 srTCM를 VHDL과 FPGA를 이용하여 설계하여 하나의 chip으로 구현하였다.
