Analysis of Correlation among Various Compaction Evaluation Methods for Estimating of the Bearing Capacity on Subgrades (노상토의 지지력 평가를 위한 다짐평가기법의 상관성 분석)

  • Even though the plate bearing test (PBT) to evaluate the load baring capacity and the field density test to evaluate the relative density are mainly used for quality control of soil compaction in Korea, use of the dynamic cone penetrometer test (DCPT) and the dynamic plate bearing test (DPBT) considering economic feasibility, rapidity, and suitability for field conditions increase to use for quality control of soil compaction. In this study, bearing capacity and relative density of subgrade with thickness of 20 cm, 30 cm, and 40 cm are estimated using PBT, DCPT, DPBT and field density test in three field compaction tests, and the relationship among various compaction evaluation methods is analyzed and discussed.

  • Poor compaction of subgrade soil causes low stiffness and bearing capacity of sublayers so that faulting and differential settlements can be generated between new and old pavement surfaces in case of widening works. However, investigation of verifying the reason of producing the defects in the pavements are not performed in detail. In this study, several in-field tests including PMT and PBT were performed for obtaining stiffness of the sublayers in new and old pavements respectively of an widening project. Then, based on the obtained stiffness values and the measured deformations obtained by specially designed tilt meters, the main reasons of generating different deformations between the old and new pavement sections and the relationship between the deformation and stiffness are verified.

  • We investigated the growth and survival in seedling production, and growth performance was compared with the different rearing tanks and protein source of formulated feed for juvenile Pacific bluefin tuna Thunnus orientalis (PBT). The survival rate at the end of nursery culture at 30 days after hatching was $0.69{\pm}0.40%$, and total length and mean body weight were $49.83{\pm}2.52\;mm$ and $1.03{\pm}0.09\;g$, respectively. Growth performance has no significant difference in fish reared by different tanks forms for 10 days. In order to develop an artificial diet, we evaluated the dietary utility of enzyme treated fish meal (Bio-CP, BIO) for juvenile PBT. Only diet BIO sustained similar growth and higher feed efficiency, and final carcass lipid content as compared to those of Sand lance (SL) These results revealed that BIO-CP a suitable dietary protein source, could sustain growth of PBT.

  • The in-situ Compaction test using sand cone (RC) and Plate Bearing Capacity Test (PBT) has been widely used for evaluating the subgrade and subbase condition on the pavement system. However, because the in-situ RC and PBT test are expensive and take plenties of time for operation, these are very difficult to figure out the in-situ characteristics of subgrade and subbase strength in detail. Therefore, for faster and economical operation, this study is to compare the Light Falling Weight Tests and propose the LFWD test as the in-situ Compaction test. This study suggests the relationship between in-situ RC value, $K_{30}$, $M_R$ and $E_{LFWD}$ of the subgrade and subbase materials in Korea using the laboratory and in-situ testing.

Quantitative Extraction Analysis of Brominated Flame Retardant Substances Using Supercritical-Fluid Method for Environmental Assessment (초임계추출법을 이용한 브롬계 난연제 화합물 환경성 평가 추출효율 분석 연구)

  • For the evaluation of brominated flame retardants included in polymeric electronic devices, we investigated the extraction methods and solvent systems for four different types of polymers of PC (polycarbonate), PP (polyropylene), PET (poly(ethylene terephthalate)) and PBT (poly(butylene terephthalate)) using different solvent systems of hexane/acetone, THF, toluene, and THF/toluene. In order to compare the extraction efficiency of different methods and solvent systems, the deca-BDE (decabromo diphenyl ether) flame retardant was included in PC, PP, PET and PBT systems and subsequently extracted by soxhlet, ultrasonic, accelerated solvent, microwave and supercritical fluid extraction methods. The amount of the extracted flame retardant was monitored to evaluate the extraction efficiency. The ultrasonic extraction method was found not to be acceptable as an extraction method for the polymer systems mainly due to a low salvation efficiency of the organic solvents. Soxhlet, accelerated solvent and microwave extraction methods exhibited over 80% of extraction efficiency for toluene. The supercritical fluid extraction method, which has been used as an extraction method for flame retardants in polymers, showed the extraction efficiencies of ca. 100% for PC and PP in the optimal extraction conditions of $60^{\circ}C$ and 120 bar.

  • Residual stress in the injection molded part is originated from thermal shrinkage and shear stress during injection molding process. There are many measurement methods of residual stress in the plastic part. Residual stress in opaque products can be measured by chemical cracking test. This method enables the solvent and specimen to react and to cause cracks. Cracks developed according to the level of residual stress. Thus the stresses in plastic part can be quantitatively measured by counting the number of cracks or measuring the size of cracks. Relationship between stress and number of cracks in a plastic specimen has been investigated in this study. Bergen jig was used to give a strain in the specimens those were molded using PC/PBT and PC/ABS. Solvent for the chemical cracking test was prepared using tetrahydrofuran and methyl alcol with the ratio of 1 to 3. Stresses in the specimen can be calculated by strains those were imposed by Bergen jig. Cracks were developed for stress higher than certain level. The number of cracks increased by second order function for stress.

  • Recently a limited section of trackbed with ballast at KTX railway were reported to have settled down and led to problems such as reduced speed and passenger discomfort. Therefore, an urgent remedy for the settled trackbed is required to recover normal operation of KTX trains. In this paper, a new technique is proposed to visualize the elastic modulus of cross sections at railway trackbeds under ballast for practical identification of potential settlement. The proposed technique is based on ICSW technique, enabling use of impact source and overcoming inherent limitations of CSW method. To verify validity and feasibility of the proposed method, the method was employed to construct cross-sectional images of elastic modulus of two railway trackbeds and compared with other tests such as SASW, PBT, DCP and portable FWD tests.

  • 대규모 수험자를 대상으로 하는 경우, CBT 방식은 PBT 방식에 비해 비용이나 처리 방법에 있어 효율적이라는 장점을 갖고 있다. 하지만, CBT 평가가 제대로 운영되려면 많은 문항으로 구성된 대규모의 문제 은행이 있어야 하며, 기 구축된 문항은 적합성과 공정성이 반드시 보장되어야 한다. 이에 본 연구는 4,000여 명 이상의 수험자를 대상으로 8000문제가 넘는 문제 은행이 구축되어 실제 CBT 시스템을 개발·운영하고 있는 P 대학교 CBLT 테스트 시스템의 문항들을 분석할 방법을 제안한다. 연구 결과 CBLT 테스트 시스템의 문제 은행의 개별 문항들이 출제자 1인의 주관적 판단에 달려있어 문항에 대한 질 관리가 어렵다는 문제점을 해결하기 위해서는 고전검사이론이 적합하다고 판단된다. 그러나 매 시험이 동질한 문항 세트로 구성되기 위해서는 문항에 대한 충분하고 객관적인 자료가 절대적으로 필요하다. 이를 위해서는 CBLT 테스트 시스템과 같이 응답자 수가 2∼300여 명 전후이며, 40문항의 문항 세트에 대한 분석은 2모수 정도가 적당하다고 판단된다.

  • 국내 건설현장에서는 성토다짐의 다짐도 확인을 위해 주로 평판재하시험(PBT)을 사용한다. 평판재하시험은 재하시험시 표층의 매우 잘 다져진 곳에 대한 지지력 계수를 획득 하여 실다짐도를 과대 평가하는 결과를 초래할 수 있다. 이에 착안하여 응력도달 범위가 작은 평판재하시험을 지양하고 콘관입시험으로부터 획득되는 노상의 관입지수로부터 지반의 다짐도를 추정할 수 있는 콘관입시험기와 구동시스템 및 해석 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 시스템은 다짐차량에 간편하게 부착하여 현장에서 직접 다짐도를 획득할 수 있으며 다짐도와 더불어 다져진 지반의 전단강도정수를 동시에 측정할 수 있다.
