AKARI IRC INFRARED 2.5-5 ㎛ SPECTROSCOPY OF NEARBY LUMINOUS INFRARED GALAXIES

  • We present the result of systematic AKARI IRC infrared $2.5-5{\mu}m$ spectroscopy of >100 nearby luminous infrared galaxies, to investigate the energetic roles of starbursts and optically-elusive buried AGNs. Based on (1) the equivalent widths of the $3.3{\mu}m$ PAH emission features, (2) the optical depths of absorption features, and (3) continuum slopes, we can disentangle emission from starbursts and AGNs. We find that the energetic importance of buried AGNs increases with increasing galaxy infrared luminosities, suggesting that the AGN-starburst connections (and thereby possible AGN feedback to host galaxies) are luminosity dependent.

  • 우리가 숨쉬고 있는 대기 중에는 많은 부유 먼지가 존재하고 있으며, 이는 산업활동의 증가와 도시화, 차량 수 등의 증가로 인하여 그 종류와 농도가 크게 변화하여 자연 생태계 및 인체 건강에 심각한 영향과 피해를 유발시키고 있다(1989; 1996). 이러한 부유 먼지는 거대먼지(coarse particle)와 미세먼지(fine particle)로 분류할 수 있다. 미세먼지에는 여러 가지 금속성분, 유기물질,virus, 조류 및 곰팡이 등이 포함되어 있으며, 다환 방향 족 탄화수소(polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, PAH) 등의 발암성 물질이 포함되어 있다.   • Rat renal proximal tubule suspension was prepared from adult male Sprague Dawley rat (250-300g) by mechanical (non-enzymatical) method and evaluated as a pontential model for mechanistic studies and early screening of nephrotoxicity, using anionic antibiotics (cephaloridine). Cephaloridine (CPL) produced an increase in LDH release into media. This release results from decrease a proximal tubule cell viability and subsequently increase the permeability of cell viability and subsequently increase the permeability of cell membrane. Since loss of intracellular potassium and ATP into media is the sign of disruption of cell membrane, especially basolateral membrane (BLM), CPL induced proximal tubule cell compromise also appear be associated with BLM, maybe $Na^+-K^+$ ATPase. Also seen was significant depression in brush border membrane (BBM) ALP activity and no significantly increase in BBM GGT activities. The inhibition of typical anion, PAH accumulation (especially, CPL 5 mM) and cation, TEA (especially, 4hours incubation) were seen dose dependently. This is because of CPL accumulation in renal proximal tubule and increase of cytotoxicity.

Effect of Electrolyte Concentration on Surfactant-Enhanced Electrokinetic Removal of Phenanthrene

  • Surfactant-enhanced electrokinetic (EK) process was investigated to remove polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from low-permeable soils. Phenanthrene and kaolinite were selected as a representative PAH and a model soil, respectively. A nonionic surfactant Tergitol 15-S-12 was applied to improve the solubility of phenanthrene and sodium chloride was used as an electrolyte at the various concentrations from 0.001 to 0.1M. The addition of electrolyte affected both the removal efficiency and operation cost. When electrolyte was introduced, the electrical potential gradient became low and thus power consumption was reduced. However, as electrolyte concentration increased, the electroosmotic flow also decreased, so the removal efficiency of contaminant decreased. Therefore, the removal efficiency and power consumption should be considered simultaneously to determine the iptimum surfactant concentration, so a relatively lower concentration of electrolyte than certain value is desired.

  • 대기오염물질 속에 함유되어 있는 다환방향족 탄화수소 (PAHs)는 분자식 구조가 비슷한 수십개의 이성질체가 여러 종류의 유기화합물과 혼합되어 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 환경오염 시료중의 PAHs를 분석하는데 있어서 분석방법과 결과를 비교하기 위하여 지침이 될 수 있는 환경표준 기준물을 개발할 목적으로 굴뚝 안쪽벽에서 긁어 채취한 검댕을 시료로 선책하여 액체/액체 용매 추출방법에 의해 PAHs 분류부분을 얻었다. Phenanthrene 이외의 30여종의 PAHs 화합물을 가스크로마토그라피의 머무른시간과 가스크로마토그라피/질량분석기에 의하여 분리, 판명하였고 5종의 주 PAHs 화합물을 정확하게 정량 분석하였다. 정량분석 결과의 신뢰도, 정확도, 정밀도는 미국 NBS의 표준기준물 1647을 분석하여 검정치와 비교함으로써 평가하였다.

Concentrations and Distributions of PAHs in Soils Sampled at the Roadsides in Seoul (서울시 도로 퇴적토사중 PAHs의 농도 및 분포)

  • Surface soils sampled at several sites in Seoul, Korea were analyzed to determine the concentrarions and distributions of PAHs. Results are as follow; 1) The Bap concentration in soils was found to be the highest in the industrial area (128 ng/g) and lowest in the residential area(19 ng/g). 2) The Py concentration in soils was highest in the tunnel area (1,110 ng/g) and the lowest in the Achasan area(18 ng/g). 3) The BghiP concentration in soils was higher in road (538 ng/g) and tunnel (532 ng/g) areas than in others areas. 4) It was shown that the PAHs concentrations in residential areas were affected by combution of fossil fuel, those in industrial, road, tunnel, terminal and commercial areas were affected by vehicle exhaust.

  • Fluoranthene, a common polycyclicaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), exhibits phototoxicity which may affect aquatic organisms. The eventual goal of this study is to develop a biomarker used in monitoring abnormal behaviors of Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) as a model organism caused by hazardous chemicals that are toxic and persistent in the ecosystem. In this study, we investigated neural toxicity of fluoranthene in Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) which was correlated with its behaviors.

Use of New Passive Sampler to Assess PAHs Contamination (새로운 생물농축 기법에 의한 PAHs의 오염도 확인)

  • A new passive sampler was developed, improving SPMD (Semipermeable Membrane Devices) that contained triolein in nonporous, low-density polyethylene layflat tubing. Experiments to measure PAHs concentration were carried out at four sites (Dukpo, Sochi, Sohwonggando, Yeonmok) on the southern coast of Korea that were contaminated by oil spills. Passive samplers were deployed at 4 and 8 week intervals at each site. Results showed that bioconcentration levels of PAHs were increased in proportion to exposure duration from all sample sites and accumulation in the passive sampler was much higher than in biota at the Dukpo site. Results of these tests suggest that new passive sampler is a useful tool for measuring bioconcentration organic compounds in aquatic environments.

  • The effect of atractylis on the renal function of the dog was investigated in this study. Alcohol extract of atractylis, when given intravenously in dose 15mg/kg, elicited antidiuresis rather than diuresis. Also, free water clearance $(C_{H_2O})$ decreased in proportion. No alterations of the renal clearances of creatinine and PAH were detected in the range of doses which are effective in inhibiting diuresis. The effects were obtained with smaller doses when the atractylis was given through the intracarotid artery route rather than intravenously. When infused directly into a renal artery, atratylis exhibited identical action on both kidneys, indicating that the renotropic action is mediated by some endogenous humoral agents. It is therefore suggested that atractylis is capable of releasing ADH from the neurohypophysis.

  • A receptor model application was performed by using a chemical mass balance (CMB) model to identify and apportion the specific source of airborne organic pollutants, particularly polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Source profiles of PAHs produced from the combustion of fossil fuels for CMB modeling were prepared by measuring them in emission gases. The emission sources which were examineed for the development of PAH source profiles are a coal-fired furnace using Yontan, a bunker-C iol heating boiler, and gasoline-and diesel engine automobiles. The ambient concentrations of PAHs were determined at four sites in Daejon city in 1991 with a seasonal variation. Wintertime air samples contained more extractable organic matter than summertime samples. The results of CMB modeling were various depending on the sampling sites and seasons, but the emission from bunker-C oil heating boliers was the predominant factor to affect local air quality throughout the year.
