  • Residents of urban area like to be near rural animals during their daily life, so it is important conserve the suburban Yato landscape in Japan. This study targets the species of frogs that are commonly found in Yato paddies. It is necessary to various frogs inhabiting in Yato, because frogs are popular among Japanese, who as children enjoy capturing tadpoles and frogs. Its purpose is to clarify how that composition of frog species changes when the functionality of a frog habitat is diminished by urbanization. The survey, conducted in the Eastern Kanagawa area in central Japan, determined the distribution of each species of frog in grid cells measuring 0.5-$\textrm{km}^2$. It hsows wide distributing species (Hyla japonica; they always inhabit in all paddies), the middle range distributing species (Rhacophorus schlegelii and Rana porosa p.), the limited range distributing species (R. rugosa; they are most critical species, sine they are recognized only two cells), and so on. Correspondence analysis based on the frog species composition in each cell was performed to ascertain the adaptability of each species to various paddy field conditions. The results allowed us to classify cells into four groups according to the composition of the inhabiting species. And we recognized that the process by which frogs disappear occurs in reaction to either of two patterns of change. As paddy fields are improved by farmland consolidation, R. rugosa, R. ornativentris, R. japonica, and Bufo. japonica f. decline rapidly. In plateau areas, a smore andmore paddies are converted into strong, well-drained fields, only H. japonica and R. porosa p. remain. But in hilly areasd, the species composition becomes only H. japonica and R. schlegelii. Finally, we discuss the concept of ecological urban design in the context of the conservation of frog species in Yato paddies.

  • The moment when Electrical Vehicle (EV) starts charging or discharging is one of the most important parameters in estimating the impact of EV load on the grid. In this paper, a decision-making problem of determining the start time of charging and discharging during allowed period is proposed and studied under the uncertainty of real-time price. Prospect theory is utilized in the decision-making problem of this paper for it describes a kind of decision making behaviors under uncertainty. The case study uses the parameters of Springo SGM7001EV and adopts the historical realtime locational marginal pricing (LMP) data of PJM market for scenario reduction. Prospect values are calculated for every possible start time in the allowed charging or discharging period. By comparing the calculated prospect values, the optimal decisions are obtained accordingly and the results are compared with those based on Expected Utility Theory. Results show that with different initial State-of-Charge ($SoC_0$) and different reference points, the optimal start time of charging can be the one between 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. and optimal discharging starts at 2 p.m. or 3p.m. Moreover, the decision results of Prospect Theory may differ from that of the Expected Utility Theory with the reference points changing.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the major vascular system to supply flap, flap survival rate and complications after flap elevation in order to evaluate possibility of the vascularized face/scalp allotransplantation. Forty New Zealand white rabbits were divided into two groups: control group and experimental group. Individuals of control group had a face/scalp composite unit which was composed of skin, subcutaneous tissue and platysma muscle, supplying by bilateral facial artery, temporal artery and auricular artery and draining by external jugular vein. After a flap was elevated, bilateral facial artery, temporal artery and auricular artery were ligated. On the other hand, those of experimental group had the same composite unit as control group with bilateral facial artery, temporal artery and auricular artery being not ligated. We had measured survival area of flaps of the sixteen individuals survived for four weeks in the control group and fourteen in the experimental group by Grid method. The mean survival durations of the flap were 3.7days in the control group, 20.0days in the experimental group. The significant differences in the mean survival durations and survival rate at the 28days were found between the control and experimental group (p<0.05). Mean values about the survival area's fractions of all were $1.3{\pm}4.%$ in the control group and $63.1{\pm}4.8%$ in the experimental group. Those of experimental group was significantly higher than control group statistically (p<0.05). The composite face/scalp flap which we have elevated, supplied by bilateral facial artery, temporal artery, auricular artery and drained by external jugular vein has flap viability enough to be transplanted after its elevation.

  • In this paper, the EPICS2017 photoatomic database was used to evaluate the photon mass attenuation coefficients and buildup factors of soils collected at different depths in the Philippine islands. The extraction and interpolation of the library was accomplished at the recommended linear-linear scales to obtain the incoherent and total cross section and mass attenuation coefficient. The buildup factors were evaluated using the G-P fitting method in ANSI/ANS-6.4.3. An agreement was achieved between XCOM, MCNP5, and EPICS2017 for the calculated mass attenuation coefficient values. The buildup factors were reported at several penetration depths within the standard energy grid. The highest values of both buildup factor classifications were found in the energy range between 100 and 400 keV where incoherent scattering interaction probabilities are predominant, and least at the region of predominant photoionization events. The buildup factors were examined as a function of different soil silica contents. The soil samples with larger silica concentrations were found to have higher buildup factor values and hence lower shielding characteristics, while conversely, those with the least silica contents have increased shielding characteristics brought by the increased proportions of the abundant heavier oxides.

  • Recently, hydraulic fracturing is used in various fields and microseismic monitoring is one of the best methods for judging where hydraulic fractures exist and how they are developing. When locating microseismic events using single vertical well data, distances from the vertical array and depths from the surface are generally decided using time differences between compressional (P) wave and shear (S) wave arrivals and azimuths are calculated using P wave hodogram analysis. However, in field data, it is sometimes hard to acquire P wave data which has smaller amplitude than S wave because microseismic data often have very low signal to noise (S/N) ratio. To overcome this problem, in this study, we developed a grid search algorithm which can find event location using all combinations of arrival times recorded at receivers. In addition, we introduced and analyzed the method which calculates azimuths using S wave. The tests of synthetic data show the inversion method using all combinations of arrival times and receivers can locate events without considering the origin time even using only single phase. In addition, the method can locate events with higher accuracy and has lower sensitivity on first arrival picking errors than conventional method. The method which calculates azimuths using S wave can provide reliable results when the dip between event and receiver is relatively small. However, this method shows the limitation when dip is greater than about $20^{\circ}$ in our model test.

  • Microarray which enables us to obtain hundreds and thousands of expression of gene or genotype at once is an epoch-making technology in comparative analysis of genes. First of all, we have to measure the intensity of each gene in an microarray image from the experiment to gain the expression level of each gene. But it is difficult to analyze the microarray image in manual because it has a lot of genes. Meta-gridding method and various auto-gridding methods have been proposed for this, but thew still have some problems. For example, meta-gridding requires manual-work due to some variations in spite of experiment in same microarray, and auto-gridding nay not carried out fully or correctly when an image has a lot of noises or is lowly expressed. In this article, we propose Hierarchical Grid Alignment algorithm for new methodology combining meta-gridding method with auto-gridding method. In our methodology, we necd a meta-grid as an input, and then align it with the microarray image automatically. Experimental results show that the proposed method serves more robust and reliable gridding result than the previous methods. It is also possible for user to do more reliable batch analysis by using our algorithm.

  • Terra MODIS is one of the few space-borne sensors currently capable of acquiring radiometric data over the range of view angles. Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo, has been receiving Terra MODIS data at Tokyo since May 2001 and Asian Institute of Technology at Bangkok since May 2001. They can cover whole East Asia and is expected to monitor environmental changes regularly such as deforestation, forest fires, floods and typhoon. Over eight hundred scenes have been archived in the storage system and they occupy 2 TB of disk space so far. In this study, MODIS data processing system on WWW is developed including following functions: spectral subset (250m, 500m, 1000m channels), radiometric correction to radiance, spatial subset of geocoded data as a rectangular area with latitude-longitude grid system in HDF format, generation of a quick look file in JPEG format. Users will be notified just after all the process have finished via e-mail. Using this system enables us to process MODIS data on WWW with a few input parameters and download the processed data by FTP access. An easy to use interface is expected to promote the use of MODIS data. This system is available via the Internet on the following URL from September 1 2002, "http : //webmodis.iis.u-tokyo.ac.jp/".

  • The three-dimensional new corrdinate system over a single hill double hills and complex terrain with a single hill and a rectangular obstacle was generated using a body-fitted coordinate system. Control of the coordinate line distribution in the field was executed by generalizing the elliptic generating system to Poisson equation. ▽2ξ=P. The new coordinate system was well fitted to the surface boundary of single hill and double hills. But in the case of complex terrain with hill and rectangular obstacle there was smoothing tendency around the rectangular obstacle. In order to show the validity of the body-fitted coordinate system the heat diffusion equation was transformed and the temperature distribution was calculated over the various terrain. The results showed the temperature distribution was very symmetrical and stable around hills and obstacle. As a result the couple of a body-fitted coordinate system and the heat diffusion equation were executed successfully. Wind field over complex terrain with hill and rectangular obstacle which represent urban area was simulated stably in body-fitted coordinate system. The qualitative result show the enhancement of wind speed at the upwind direction of a hill and a rectangular obstacle and the recirculation zone at the downwind direction.

  • A modified silicon direct bonding method has been developed alloying an intimate contact between grooved and smooth mirror-polished oxide-free silicon wafers. A regular set of grooves was formed during preparation of heavily doped $p^+$-type grid network by oxide-masking und boron diffusion. Void-free bonded interfaces with filing of the grooves were observed by x-ray diffraction topography, infrared, optical. and scanning electron microscope techniques. The presence of regularly formed grooves in bending plane results in the substantial decrease of dislocation over large areas near the interface. Moreover two strongly misoriented waters could be successfully bonded by new technique. Diodes with bonded a pn-junction yielded a value of the ideality factor n about 1.5 and the uniform distribution of series resistance over the whole area of horded pn-structure. The suitability of the modified technique was confirmed by I - V characteristics of power diodes and reversly switched-on dynistor(RSD) with a working area about $12cm^2$. Both devices demonstrated breakdown voltages close to the calculation values.

  • In this paper, we studied the optimization of the screen pringting method for crystalline silicon solar cell fabrication. The 156 * 156 mm2 p-type silicon wafers with $200{\mu}m$ thickness and $0.5-3{\Omega}cm$ resistivity were used after texturing, doping, and passivation. Screen printing method is a common way to make the c-Si solar cell with low-cost and high-efficiency. We studied the optimized condition for screen printing with crystalline silicon solar cell as changing the printing direction (finger line or bus bar), finger width, and mesh angle. As a result, the screen printing with finger line direction showed higher finger height and better conversion efficiency, compared with one with bus bar direction. The experiments with various finger widths and mesh angles were also carried out. The characteristics of solar cells was obtained by measuring light current-voltage, optical microscope and electroluminescence.
