  • From the dispersion relation of an electromagnetic (EM) wave propagating through plasmas, w$\^$2/ = w$\sub$p/$\^$2/+c$\^$2/k$\^$2/ the phase velocity (w/k) of the wave is large at high density where w$\sub$p/ is large, and small at low density Therefore, when a laser pulse is located on a downward density gradient of a plasma wave, the phase velocity of the back of the pulse becomes faster than that of the front of the pulse and the pulse wavelength decreases. • An aspartase purified from Hafnia alvei was inactivated by diethylpyrocarbonate (DEP) in a pseudo-first-order inactivation. The first-order plot was biphasic. The inactivation process was not saturable and the second order rate constant was $1.3\;M^{-1}s^{-1}$. The inactivated aspartase was reactivated with NH₂OH. The difference absorption spectrum of DEP-inactivated vs native enzyme preparations revealed a marked peak around 242 nm. The pH dependence of the inactivation rate suggests that an amino acid residue having a pK value of 7.2 was involved in the inactivation. L-aspartate, fumarate (substrates), and chloride ion (inhibitor) protected the enzyme against inactivation, indicating that histidine residues for the enzyme activity are located at the active site of this aspartase. Inspection of the presence and absence of $Cl^-$ ion demonstrated that the number of essential histidine residues is less than two. Thus, one or two histidines are in or near the aspartate binding site and participate in an essential step of the catalytic reaction.

  • High viscous hyaluronic acid complex from Klebsiella sp. L-10 NTG 50 mutant was purified by two-phase extraction system using PEG-K2HP04 and its physicochemical properties were Investigated. Viscosity of the purified hyaluronic acid complex was decreased as temperature and salts concentration were Increased and also showed low viscosity at below pH 5.0 and above pH 11.0. Hardness, cohesiveness and adhesiveness of the purified hyaluronic acid complex were 1, 20kg, 1.91 and 0.62, respectively. Water holding capacity was 6.9ml per gram of the purified hyaluronic acid complex powder.

  • Salt accumulation is frequently experienced in soils under protected cultivation. Since protected cultivation does not have rainfall and resulting infiltration, salt accumulation in the soils is inevitable. In this study, analyzed were chemical charecteristics of soils under protected cultivation to investigate the factors which may contribute the salt accumulation. Soil samples were collected from 99 protected cultivation facilities around An-sung Gun, Gyungki-Do and analyzed for electrical conductivity, pH, organic matter con-tents. The results showed that there was no significant trend of changes in electrical conductivity and pH along cultivation years. the only factor influencing salt accumulation was irrigation type. Soils in facilities using drip irrigation showed higher electrical conductivity than those using diversion-hose type irrigation.

  • To determine contents of inorganic elements of Laccaria, the carpophores of Laccaria laccata(Fr.) Berk. et Br., Laccaria amethystina(Fr.) Berk. et Br., Laccaria tortilis(S.P. Gray) Cooke and Laccaria vinaceoavellanea Hongo were incinerated and analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Total contents of determined inorganic elements(except Cd) were highst in Laccaria tortilis than the other three mushrooms, and Laccaria vinaceoavellanea, Laccaria laccata and Laccaria amethystina in that order. The four species mushrooms contained potassium, iron, zinc, sodium, copper, manganese, and calsium in that order, and the content of potassium was the highst than the other inorganic components. The content of cadmium was Laccaria tortilis, Laccaria laccata, Laccaria vinaceoavellanea and Laccaria amethystina in that order.

  • We have investigated the reliability of short channel ($L=1.5{\mu}m$) p-type ELA poly-Si TFTs under hot carrier stress. Threshold voltage of short channel TFT was significantly more shifted to positive direction than that of long channel TFT under the same stress. This result may be attributed to electron trapping at the interface between poly-Si film and gate oxide layer.

  • This study was conducted to determine the image of functional foods and the meal patterns for health behavior of 242 persons in Daegu area. Anthropometric data showed that female and male were 38, and 204 respectively. The most BMI group was standard group(55.4% )The most eaten functional foods were Lactobicilli goods while the lowest functional foods were Taurine goods. The highest functional food image score on the basis of Likert's 5 scales was 3.89(expensive) and the lowest score was 2.98 (experienced in eating functional food). Accepted food groups were significantly associated with eating rate of protein food and age(p < 0.01),eating rate of cabohydrate foods and sex(p < 0.05), eating rate of mineral foods and monthly average income, eating rate of vitamin foods and sex.

  • The rhizoma of Polygonatum odoratum (Liliaceae) promotes the production of body fluid and relives dryness symptoms and has hypoglycemic effect. In order to evaluate the prevention of lipid peroxidative efficacy of P. odoratum, its extracts (Et$_2$O and MeOH ex.) and its fractions ($H_2O$, 20% MeOH, 40% MeOH, 60% MeOH and 100% MeOH fr.) were measured by TBARS assay on rat liver S9 and human erythrocyte ghost membrane. The order of anti-lipid peroxidative effect was as follows: Et$_2$O ex. >40% MeOH fr. >60% MeOH fr.>100% MeOH fr. Based on these results, we conclude that membrane lipid peroxidation is inhibited in vitro by addition of P. odoratum ether extract and its gradient MeOH fractions excepts $H_2O$ fr., and which have significant hepatoprotective activity in $CCl_4$-treated rats.

  • The author conducted an experiment using P-A Cephalography of 242 male and female subjects of ages ranging 2-6, 7-15, and adult group. By means of Nakago's method of measurement, the standard value of Korean was obtained. The results were as follows; 1. In the group of an age, the male value was greater slightly than female value. 2. In each age group the difference between the right and left widths could be recognizable, however, it was not much great. 3. In each group, regardless of sex, the growth relation was clearly distinguishable at PO, ARI, ARE, MG, AG, and CAW. 4. When the standard value of adult Korean was compared with that of Japanese, Japanese was great with respect to the width of maxillary portion and Korean was great with respect to the width of mandibular portion. 5. Maximum head width of white man was almost similar to that of Korean, however, maxillary alveolar base width of white man was considerably small or the dental arch was narrow.

  • In this work, we deal with $q$-Genocchi numbers and polynomials. We derive not only new but also interesting properties of the $q$-Genocchi numbers and polynomials. Also, we give Cauchy-type integral formula of the $q$-Genocchi polynomials and derive distribution formula for the $q$-Genocchi polynomials. In the final part, we introduce a definition of $q$-Zeta-type function which is interpolation function of the $q$-Genocchi polynomials at negative integers which we express in the present paper.
