  • An adaptive fuzzy P + ID controller for variable speed operation of BLDC motor drives is presented in this paper. Generally, a conventional PID controller is most widely used in industry due to its simple control structure and ease of design. However, the PID controller suffers from the electrical machine parameter variations and disturbances. To improve the tracking performance for parameter and load variations, the controller proposed in this paper is constructed by using an adaptive fuzzy logic controller in place of the proportional term in a conventional PID controller. For implementing this controller, only one additional parameter has to be adjusted in comparison with the PID controller. An adaptive fuzzy controller applied to proportional term to achieve robustness against parameter variations has simple structure and computational simplicity. The controller based on optimal fuzzy logic controller has an self-tuning characteristics with clustering. Computer simulation results show the usefulness of the proposed controller.

  • This paper considers enhancing the robustness of a MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) predictive control system. The characteristic polynomial matrix of the closed-loop is shown to consist of two factors $P_c$ and T, where $P_c$ is determined by the tuning knobs of the predictive controller and T is an observer or prefilter polynomial matrix. The robust stability condition is derived in terms of $P_c$ and T. A guideline on the selection of T is then presented for open-loop stable processes.

  • An InGaP/GaAs HBT based differential Colpitts voltage control oscillator(VCO) is presented in this paper. In the VCO core, two switching transistors are introduced to steer the core bias current to save power. An LC tank with an inductor quality factor(Q) of 11.4 is used to generate oscillation frequency. It has a superior phase noise characteristics of -130.12 dBc/Hz and -105.3 at 1 MHz and 100 kHz frequency offsets respectively from the carrier frequency(1.566 GHz) when supplied with a control voltage of 0 volt. It dissipates output power of -5.3 dBm. Two pairs of on-chip base collector (BC) diodes are used in the tank circuit to increase the VCO tuning range(168 MHz). This VCO occupies the area of $1.070{\times}0.90mm^2$ including buffer and pads.

  • Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of perovskite materials such as La modified $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$ ceramics and $Pb(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbTiO_3$ single crystals were investigated for cryogenic capacitor and actuator applications. Enhanced extrinsic contributions resulted in piezoelectric coefficient (d33) as high as 250 pC/N at 30 K, superior to that of PZT ($d_{33}$ ~ 100 pC/N). This cryogenic property enhancement was associated with retuning the MPB (or cryogenic temperatures. PZN-PT single crystals exhibited dramatic property improvements such as $d_{33}$ > 500 pC/N at 30 K as a result of an engineered domain state.

  • Many industrial processes such as continuous stirred tank reactors(CSTRs), desalination plant, distillation columns, pH neutralization processes and so on exhibit highly nonlinear characteristic and time-varying behavior during operation. The control of such processes has been challenging to control engineers. Hence, a variety of forms of PID controllers and their tuning rules for industrial processes have been developed to guarantee the best performance. In this paper, a scheme that designs the practical PID controller with an anti-windup strategy incorporating with an evolutionary algorithm(EA) is presented for the concentration control of a nonisothermal CSTR. EA is used to tune the parameters of the overall PID control process with anti-windup by minimizing the integral of absolute error(IAE). Simulation works for reference tracking and disturbance rejecting performances and robustness to parameter changes show the feasibility of using the proposed method.

  • A torque transmission system, which is composed of serveral gears and couplings, is flexible. Therefore, the torsion vibration occurs when the motor speed abruptly changes. Consequently, for accuracy characteristic response of motor, we must suppressed vibration. Therefore, vibration suppression is very important motor control. In order to suppress the vibration, various control method have been proposed. Specially, one method of vibration suppression is used disturbance observer and filter. The disturbance observer is used to suppress the vibration in this method. By feedback of the estimated torsion torque, the vibration can be suppressed. The coefficient diagram method is used to design the filter and proportional controller. But using coefficient diagram method, not adapted controller parameter in disturbance. In order to solve this problem. we used fuzzy controller for auto tuning controller parameter $K_P$. We proved of this approach is confirmed by simulation.

  • This paper presents fully integrated 5 GHz band low phase noise LC tank VCO. The implemented VCO is tuned by integrated PN diode and tuning rage is $5.01{\sim}5.30$ GHz under $0{\sim}3 V$ control voltage. For good phase noise performance, LC filtering technique, common in Si CMOS process, is used, and to prevent degradation of phase noise performance by collector shot-noise and to reduce power dissipation the HBT is biased at low collector current density bias point. The measured phase noise is -87.8 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset frequency and -111.4 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency which is good performance. Moreover phase noise is improved by roughly 5 dEc by LC filter. It is the first experimental result in InGaP/GaAs HBT process. The figure of merit of the fabricated VCO with LC filter is -172.1 dBc/Hz. It is the best result among 5 GHz InGaP HBT VCOs. Moreover this work shows lower DC power consumption, higher output power and more fixed output power compared with previous 4, 5 GHz band InGaP HBT VCOs.

  • The time honoured tuning fork at present widely available for examining vibration sensation is brought about the problem of great interobserver variation. To resolve t his problem, author developed a divice using electric magnet that stimulates constantly tuning fork. The perception time of vibration from tunung fork by this device was tested on the index finger of dominant hand of twenty eight subjects. It was 12.44 seconds on average and ranged from 9.47 to 17.25. Coefficient of variation of it was 16.89 percent. Correlation coefficient between test and retest after 30 minutes was 0.957(p<0.01). This device is portable. Test procedure in non-invasive, non-aversive and simple, can be performed within one minute, and does not require the skilled technician. It is felt that this device testing vibration perception time is suitable as screening tool for early detection of occupational peripheral neuropathy.

  • We design and fabricate a widely tunable laser diode made of InGaAsP-InP. The diode is monolithically integrated with a wavelength-selective coupled-ring reflector and semiconductor amplifiers. For realization of a compact size device, deeply etched multi-mode interference couplers and square ring resonators composed of total-internal-reflection mirrors are adopted and fabricated using a self-aligned process. It is demonstrated that the laser diode exhibits single mode operation and 16 nm tuning range with side-mode-suppression-ratio exceeding 20 dB.

  • The impurity concentration is a crucial parameter for semiconductor thin films. Evaluating the impurity distribution in silicon thin film is another challenge. In this study, we have investigated the doping concentration of boron in silicon thin film using time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry in dynamic mode of operation. Boron doped silicon film was grown on i) p-type silicon wafer and ii) borosilicate glass using hot wire chemical vapor deposition technique for possible applications in optoelectronic devices. Using well-tuned SIMS measurement recipe, we have detected the boron counts 101~104 along with the silicon matrix element. The secondary ion beam sputtering area, sputtering duration and mass analyser analysing duration were used as key variables for the tuning of the recipe. The quantitative analysis of counts to concentration conversion was done following standard relative sensitivity factor. The concentration of boron in silicon was determined 1017~1021 atoms/㎤. The technique will be useful for evaluating distributions of various dopants (arsenic, phosphorous, bismuth etc.) in silicon thin film efficiently.
