  • Discharge characteristics research for high voltage and large current electric machinery design, the development of ozonizer with high yield and efficiency for environment improvement, generation of plasma & laser and EMI EMC are research fields of Enersy & Environment Electromagnetic Laboratory(EEEL) in the school of electrical & electronic engineering of Yeungnam University. On this paper, we would like to introduce the discharge and ozone generation characteristics of ozonizers designed and manufactured by EEEL. After starting research for fluid gas discharge characteristics early in the 1980's, high voltage nozzle(HVN) type ozonizer, neon lamp(Nelamp) type ozonizer, ozone lamp(Olamp) type ozonizer and multi-discharge type ozonizer(MDO) have been investigated since 1990.

Characteristics Improvement of Plate-Type Ozonizer using Inverse-Polarity Voltage and Accumulative Method (역극성 전압인가와 적층법을 이용한 판형오존발생기의 특성개선)

  • In this Paper, the ozonizer is fabricated by piling plate-type electrodes up to minimize and reduce install space. Hereby ozone generation characteristics of piled plate-type ozonizer were investigated. Inverse-polarity voltage was generated by H.V neon transformer. And 2 H.V neon transformers were used to supply high voltage each 9 electrodes of plate-type ozonizer. According to the experiments, ozone concentration, generation and yield were proportionally increased tilth increasing the number of electrode. And the maximum increase effects of 246%, 245%, and 33% were obtained when the number of electrode were increased from 3 up to 9.

  • Ozone is a powerful disinfectant and oxidizing agent, and it is used in a wide range of applications, such as waste water treatment, food processing, etc.. There is also a great potential of using ozone in new emerging medical applications, such as ozone dentistry and ozone oxygen therapy. For these purposes, simple, small, compact and efficient sources of ozone are needed. In this study, in order to increase the current-voltage range of the discharge and to avoid the overheating of the gas in the ozonizer we suggested ozonizer of injection needle and plate electrode type(INP Type) with the gas through the needle. A ozonizer of INP type have been investigated by focusing on ozone concentration and yield according to flow rates and Gap of two electrodes. The results of studies of ozone production for DC corona discharge in oxygen at atmospheric pressure about the ozonizer of INP type. The ozone concentration and the generation yield increased as the gap of two electrodes and gas flow were decreased. Also, when the gap of two electrodes and gas flow with no change, the ozone concentration and generation yield each have variation of direct proportion and inverse proportion with discharge voltage.

  • A hybrid discharge type ozonizer, which is superposed silent and surface discharges, has been designed and manufactured to apply for Nitrogen Oxides(NO) gas removal. The ozonizer consists of three electrodes, and is classified three types of ozonizer by changing applied voltage. Investigation was carried out variance with the flow rate of supplied oxygen gas, discharge power and the sorts of superposed discharge type ozonizer. Moreover, $NO(1200[ppm])/N_2$ gas removal investigation was also conducted to apply for environment improvement field. Two kinds of NO gas removal investigations were conducted. It distinguishes the investigations into NO gas reaction method. According to these studies, maximum removal rate of 100[%] in NO gas was obtained, and 8334[ppm] and 3249[mg/h] of maximum ozone concentration and generation were also obtained respectively.

  • In this paper, the voltage-fed series compensated inductor type load-resonant high-frequency inverter is originally presented for driving a newly-developed silent discharge ozone generating tube. The effective power regulation scheme of this ozonizer is proposed, which is based on PDM (Pulse Density Modulation) related PWM strategy due to DSP implementation. The effectiveness of this inverter type ozonizer is proved in simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper, double Cylindrical type ozonizer has been designed and manufactured to improve ozone yield by cooling external electrode. The ozonizer equipped with three electrodes ( central, internal and external electrodes ). Discharge and ozone characteristics are described in this paper by varying the flow rate( Q ) of oxygen supplied gas, temperature of cooling gas and supplied voltage.

  • This paper describes the discharge and ozone generation characteristics with variation of the applied voltage, the number of ozonizer, the quantity of flowing material gas. The important conclusions are as follows. The discharge voltage and current values are proportional to the applied voltage. The ozone concentration and generation are proportional to the applied voltage and the number of ozonizer. As the maximum value of ozone concentration and generation of silent discharge type ozonizer using discharge lamp can be obtained 890[ppm] and 59.7[mg/h] respectively.

  • In this paper, a control method using Sinusoidal Filter Controller of Silent Discharging Ozonizer is proposed and also the control methode performed robust control against variation of capacitance, command voltage and frequency. As the control system for this methode, Sinusoidal Filter Algorism can be simplified configuration of the power supply by using a low-pass filter. Through simulations and experiment results, the proposed control methode compensates for the high voltage waveform to the ozonizer.

  • In this paper, a co-axial type ozonizer varied with discharge gap was designed and manufactured for investigating $\circled1$ discharge characteristics with variation of output voltage power supply, flow rate and gap $\circled2$ ozone generation characteristics with variation of flow rate, gap and discharge power. pure oxygen was used as process gas of the co-axial type ozonizer. In this paper, a double cylindrical type superposed silent discharge type ozonizer which internal electrode can be produced a vacuum has been designed and manufactured. Discharge and ozone generation characteristics have been investigated in accordance with output voltage of power supply, flow-rate, discharge power and vacuum of internal electrode.

  • For carnation productivity improvement, compact-low cost discharge lamp type ozonizer using pulse power source is designed and manufactured. This paper describes the discharge characteristics and the ozone generation characteristics with variation of the output voltage of pulse power source, the quantity of flowing air and the operating number of ozonizer. The important conclusions are as follows. The discharge voltage and current values are proportional to the output voltage of pulse power source. The ozone concentration and generation are proportional to the output voltage of pulse power source and the number of ozonizer. The maximum value of the ozone concentration and generation of the discharge lamp type ozonizer can be obtained 890[ppm] and 59.7[mg/h] respectively. In the carnation productivity house, when the discharge lamp type ozonizer is used the carnation is good quality in the uniformity of the carnation stalk thickness and increased the productivity through improvement of the air and the soil.
