형광물질을 이용한 대기 중 오존 Passive Sampler의 개발 (Development of a Passive Sampler using a Fluorescence Material for the Ambient Ozone)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an ozone passive sampler and to evaluate its performance p-Acetamidophenol using as the reagent for ozone reacts specifically with the ambient ozone to produce a fluorescence material (p-acetamidopheonl dimer). The volume of absorbent solution and the extraction time determined at suitable conditions for measuring ozone were 100$\mu$L and 60 min, respectively. The changes of fluorescence were observed with incresing the storage period of passive samplers in ambient air. but the cool storage in a refrigerator did not remarkably influence the increase of fluorescence. The measurement for the precision oi the passive sampling was carried out with duplicate measurement of passive samplers. The intra-class correlation coefficients of passive samplers using dry and wet filters were 0.992 and 0.962, respectively The results from field validation tests indicated practical agreement (dry filter: r=0.963, wet filter: r=0.995) between the passive sampler and an UV photometric $O_3$ analyzer. The limit of quantification of ozone passive samplers with sampling time of 8 hr (wet filter) and 24 hr (dry filter) were 8.0 ppb and 2.7 ppb, respectively.

Response of Antioxidative Enzymes of Two Rice Cultivars to Ozone Exposure and Nutrient Supply

  • Ozone ($O_3$)-induced changes in chlorophyll content and specific activities of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX), dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) and glutathione reductase (GR) were investigated in two rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.) grown under variable nutrient treatments. For this study, two rice cultivars of Ilpumbyeo (IL) and Keumobyeo#l (KM), which were known as resistant and susceptible to $O_3$, respectively, were exposed to $O_3$at 0.15ppm for 30 days and investigated with 10 days interval. The available nutrient regimes were varied by doubling the supply of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) Within a basic fertilizer status (N, P, K; 15, 12, 12kg/l0a$^{-1}$ ). In both cultivars and at all nutrient status, chlorophyll content in $O_3$-treated plants decreased with prolonged treatment period, although higher N, P and K supply with $O_3$ treatment alleviated the decrease in chlorophyll content. The activities of almost all enzymes investigated for this study were decreased during initial stages of $O_3$- exposure except GPX which maintained higher activity throughout the exposure period than the non-treated plant. However, the antioxidant enzymes in $O_3$-treated plants showed almost the same or higher activities on 30 days after $O_3$ - exposure. The most significant changes in activities were observed in GR of the $O_3$-treated leaves. With the prolonged treatment period, the activity of GR at 30 days was increased by 3-8 times compared to those in 10 days. Most of the investigated enzymes showed very similar tendency to $O_3$ treatment in all fertilizer status. There was no observed evidence for enhanced detoxification of $O_3$-derived activated oxygen species in plants grown under higher fertilizer status compared with that in plants grown under basic fertilizer status. The increase in the activities of SOD, APX and GR in rice leaves by relatively long-term treatment with $O_3$ at low concentration is considered to indicate that the plant became adapted to the $O_3$ stress and the protection system increased its capacity to scavenge toxic oxygen species. Our results in two rice cultivars indicated that there was little difference in the activities of antioxidant enzymes between IL and KM, which were known as resistant and susceptible cultivar to $O_3$

전오존처리에 의한 상수원수의 생물학적 처리효율제고에 관한 연구 (A Critical Review for the Effect of Ozonation on Biodegradability in Drinking Water Treatment Systems)

  • In an effort to prevent the formation of DBPs from disinfection and the microbial regrowth in distribution systems, the ozonation followed by biological filtration process in drinking water treatment train has been recently developed as an alternative process to reduce effectively water-born organic matter as precursor. There are, however, insufficient for the consistent information and data about the relation between ozone dosage based on organic surrogate parameter, TOC or DOC and effect of ozonation on BDOC formation. This study is to review critically for the effect of ozonation on biodegradability on the basis of published technical papers including the output from author's research laboratory. It truned out that : 1. ozonation in the presence of organic matter has a tendancy to increase in BDOC content, 2. the rate of BDOC formation was maximum below 1mg $O_3/mg$ DOC of ozone dose, but about maximum content of BDOC was obtainable at the range from 1.5mg $O_3/mg$ DOC to 2mg $O_3/mg$ DOC, 3. from above 1mg $O_3/mg$ DOC, the rate of BDOC formation became slow down, 4. from above 2mg $O_3/mg$ DOC, BDOC formation was quantitatively negligible, In conclusion, it needs further systematic study and research concerned to biodegradability and treatability by ozonation in terms of organic characteristics and experimental conditions because it was hard to find out the consistent experimental data comparable each other that were performed by numbers of research authors.

Growth and Photosynthetic Responses of Cuttings of a Hybrid Larch (Larix gmelinii var. japonica x L. kaempferi) to Elevated Ozone and/or Carbon Dioxide

  • We studied the effects of elevated ozone ([$O_3$]) and $CO_2$ concentrations ([$CO_2$]) on the growth and photosynthesis of the hybrid larch $F_1(F_1)$ and on its parents (the Dahurian larch and Japanese larch). $F_1$ is a promising species for timber production in northeast Asia. Seedlings of the three species were grown in 16 open top chambers and were exposed to two levels of $O_3$ (<10 ppb and 60 ppb for 7 h per day) in combination with two levels of $CO_2$ (ambient and 600 ppm for daytime) over an entire growing season. Ozone reduced the growth as measured by height and diameter, and reduced the needle dry mass and net photosynthetic rate of $F_1$, but had almost no effect on the Dahurian larch or Japanese larch. There was a significant increase in whole-plant dry mass induced by elevated [$CO_2$] in $F_1$ but not in the other two species. Photosynthetic acclimation to elevated [$CO_2$] was observed in all species. The net photosynthetic rate measured at the growing [$CO_2$] (i.e. 380 ppm for ambient treatment and 600 ppm for elevated $CO_2$ treatment) was nevertheless greater in the seedlings of all species grown at elevated [$CO_2$]. The high [$CO_2$] partly compensated for the reduction of stem diameter growth of $F_1$ at high [$O_3$]; no similar trend was found in the other growth and photosynthetic parameters, or in the other species.

오존 처리에 의한 벼 품종간 SOD, POD 활성과 기공저항성의 변화 (Change of SOD, POD Activity and Stomata Resistance for Ozone on Rice(Oryza sativa L.))

  • 오존$(O_3)$ 처리후 벼 품종의 SOD(Superoxide Dismutase)와 POD(Peroxidase)활성, 기공 저항성의 반응의 차이를 조사하여 내성품종 선발의 기초 자료로 이용하고자 실험을 실시 하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. SOD활성 조사에서 오존 처리 1시간 후 상남밭벼는 활성이 높아졌고, 백나와 일품벼의 경우 오존 처리 1 시간 후 보다 2 시간 후 활성이 증가하였다. 오존 처리 24시간 후에는 상남밭벼의 활성이 크게 감소하였고, 일품벼는 활성이 증가하는 경향을 보였으며, 한강찰벼는 큰 변화를 보이지 않았다. 2. POD활성 조사에서 오존 처리 1 시간 후에는 한강찰벼, 상남밭벼, 일품벼등이 서로 비숫한 P0D활성을 나타내었지만, 백나는 활성이 매우 낮았고 시간이 지날수록 POD활성은 증가하였다. 오존 처리 24 시간 후의 POD활성은 조사된 품종 모두에서 활성이 90 %이상을 나타냈다. 3. 기공 저항성 조사에서 오존 처리 1 시간 후에는 상남밭벼의 경우 기공 저항성이 감소하는 경향 나타냈다. 오존 처리 24 시간 후의 기공 저항성은 한강찰벼, 상남밭벼, 백나에서 조사 잎 모두 기공 저항성이 감소하였지만, 일품벼에서는 오존 처리 1 시간 후와 비슷한 높은 기공 저항성을 나타냈다.

나노 사이즈의 Ag dot을 성막한 ITO 애노드의 오존처리에 의한 유기발광소자의 홀 주입 특성 향상 (Enhancement of Hole Injection in Organic Light Emitting Device by using Ozone Treated Ag Nanodots Dispersed on ITO Anode)

  • We report the enhancement of hole injection using ozone-treated Ag nanodots dispersed on indium tin oxide anode in $Ir(ppy)_3-doped$ phosphorescent OLED. Phosphorescent OLED fabricated on Ag nanodots dispersed ITO anode showed a lower turn on voltage and higher luminescence than those of OLEDS prepared commercial ITO anode. Synchrotron x-ray scattering examination results showed that the Ag nanodots dispersed on ITO anode is amorphous structure due to low deposition temperature. It was thought that decrease of the energy barrier height as Ag nanodots changed to $AgO_x$ nanodots by surface treatment using ozone for 10 min led to enhancement of hole injection in phosphorescent OLED. Futhermore, efficient hole injection can be explained by increase of contact region between anode material and organic material through introduction of $Ag_2O$ nanodots.

Effects of Gaseous Ozone Exposure on Bacterial Counts and Oxidative Properties in Chicken and Duck Breast Meat

  • The effects of gaseous ozone exposure on the bacterial counts and oxidative properties were evaluated in duck and chicken breast fillets, which were stored under a continuous flux of gaseous ozone (10×10−6 kg O3/m3/h) at 4±1℃ for 4 d. The ozone generator was set to on for 15 min and off for 105 min, and this cyclic timer was set during storage. Ozone effectively reduced the growth of coliform, aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in both chicken and duck breast. However, lipid oxidation occurred faster in duck breast than chicken breast with higher degree of discoloration, TBARS value, and antioxidant enzyme (glutathione peroxidase and catalase) activity decline rates. It is concluded that ozone effectively controlled the growth of bacteria in both chicken and duck breast with less effects on oxidative deterioration in chicken breast.

Eco-physiological Responses of Two Populus deltoides Clones to Ozone

  • One-year-old cottonwood (Populus deltoides Bartr.) clones, which were classified as sensitive or tolerant, were exposed to 150 n1/1 ozone (O$_3$) over 8 days for 8 hours each day under glass chamber conditions with natural sunlight. The leaves of the sensitive clone had black stipple and bifacial necrosis after $O_3$ treatment. Photosynthesis and stomatal conductance were measured before, during, and after the $O_3$ treatment. The photosynthetic rates due to $O_3$ treatment were decreased 51 percent and 34 percent on the sensitive and tolerant clone, respectively. The stomatal conductance of the sensitive clone was more than 40 percent higher than that of the tolerant clone regardless of the $O_3$ treatment. As light intensity increased, the $O_3$ effect on photosynthesis was clear. Compared to the previous growth chamber studies, our natural light exposure system was able to maintain a stable photosynthetic responses of the control treatment throughout the fumigation period. In addition, changes in assimilation versus intercellular $CO_2$ concentration (A/C curves) showed that $O_3$ decreased the slope and asymptote of the curves for the sensitive clone. This indicates that $O_3$ decreases the biochemical capacity of photosynthesis on the sensitive clone. Chlorophyll contents and fluorescence of the two clones were analyzed to examine the $O_3$ effects on photosystem 11, but $O_3$ did not impact these variables on either clone. Although the tolerant clone did not show any foliar injury, we could not find any ecophysiological defensive responses to $O_3$ treated. Stomatal conductance of the tolerant clone was originally much lower than that of the sensitive one. Thus, the mechanisms of the tolerant clone in this system are to narrowly open stomata and efficiently maintain photosynthesis with a more durable biochemical apparatus of photosynthesis under $O_3$ stress. The sensitive clone has higher photosynthetic capacity and more efficient light reaction activity than the tolerant one under charcoal filtered condition, but is not as resilient under stress.

OXIDES OF NITROGEN SPECIES MEASUREMENTS AND ANALYSIS IN THE CENTRAL PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA, U.S.A.

  • The quantitative knowledge of N $O_{\gamma}$ (=N $O_{x}$ +HN $O_3$+/PAN+N $O_3$$N_2$ $O_{5}$ +HN $O_2$+N $O_3$$^{-10}$ +organic nitrates+......)distribution is essential in tropospheric chemistry, especially, especially that related to understanding the processes leading to ozone production. Ambient concentrations of NO, N $O_2$, HN $O_3$ and PAN as well as total N $O_{\gamma}$ were measured during June and early July 1992 at a rural site(Candor, NC), in the central Piedmont region of NC. The measurements of N $O_{\gamma}$ species were made in an effort to provide a comprehensive understanding of nitrogen chemistry and to investigate the total nitrogen budget at the site. N $O_{\gamma}$, N $O_2$, and NO showed diurnal variations with maxima in the morning. The maximum N $O_{\gamma}$ concentration reached was 14.5 ppbv, and the maximum concentrations of NO and N $O_2$ were 5.4 and 7.8 PPbv, respectively. The mean N $O_{\gamma}$ concentration as found to be 2.88$\pm$1.58 ppbv(n=743). The mean concentrations of NO and N $O_2$, were found to be 0.15 $\pm$ 0.29 ppbv(n=785) and 1.31 $\pm$ 0.99 ppbv(n=769). Products of photochemical oxidants, (N <$O_{\gamma}$-N $O_{x}$ ), such as HN $O_3$ and PAN, as well as ozone showed diurnal variation with maxima in the afternoon and minima at night The fractions of individual reactive nitrogen species to total N $O_{\gamma}$ were investigated and contrasted to the results from remote marine site and rural continental sites. N $O_{x}$ was the major species to total N $O_{\gamma}$(45%). NO concentrations appeared to be nearly constant whether the Prevailing winds were from continental areas or from oceanic areas. Linear regression of $O_3$ with (N $O_{\gamma}$- N $O_{x}$ )/N $O_{\gamma}$ (i.e. percent N $O_{x}$ converted to the photochemical products of N $O_{\gamma}$) yielded ( $O_3$) =25.8 〔 N $O_{\gamma}$-N $O_{x}$ 〕/(N $O_{\gamma}$) +27, ( $r^{2}$=0.58). The regression intercept is interpreted as the ozone back ground (intercept=27ppbv) and the slope suggests that 8.6 molecules of ozone are formed per molecule of N $O_{x}$ oxidized products (when the average N $O_{\gamma}$ concentration, about 3 ppbv at the site, is used). The N $O_{x}$ N $O_{\gamma}$ ratio was used as an indicator of the chemical age of airmasses and the ratio showed strong positive correlations with HN $O_3$( $r^{2}$=0.58), PAN ( $r^{2}$=0.46) and $O_3$( $r^{2}$=0.62). Larger N $O_{\gamma}$ and N $O_{x}$ N $O_{\gamma}$ ratio were found when winds came from continental sides. It may suggest that synoptic meteorological conditions and transport of N $O_{x}$ are important in the distribution of N $O_{\gamma}$ and its relationship with photochemical oxidants at the site.

R.F. Magnetron Sputtering법을 이용한 ITO 박막 오존 가스센서의 제조 및 특성 (The Fabrication of ITO Thin-film O3 Gas Sensors Using R.F. Magnetron Sputtering Method and their Characterization)

  • 오존 가스센서는 저가이고 휴대 및 사용이 간편하며 감도가 높고 우수한 선택성을 지닌 반도체식 가스센서가 대안으로 부각되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 R.F. magnetron sputtering법을 이용하여 ITO($In_2O_3 95%,\;SnO_2$ 5%) 박막을 알루미나 기판위에 증착시켰다. 증착시 기판온도는 300$^{\circ}C$와 500$^{\circ}C$였고, 시편의 일부를 공기중 500$^{\circ}C$에서 4시간 동안 열처리하였다. ITO 가스 감지막은 열처리 전${\cdot}$후 모두 결정을 형성하였다. 오존 가스에 대한 감도측정 결과, 300$^{\circ}C$에서 증착한 다음 열처리한 센서에서 가장 높은 감도(1 ppm이하 감지 가능)를 나타내었다. 작동온도가 높을수록 감도는 줄어들었지만 빠른 응답 특성과 안정성을 가졌다.
