  • This study is concerned with the oxidation of carbon monoxide on platinum and platinum-palladium catalysts. Catalysts were made by the impregnation method and flow reactor was used in the catalytic reaction. As for the mixed gases, carbon monoxide concentration varied from 1 to 4% and that of oxygen from 1 to 4%. $N_2$ was used as carrier gas and GHSV varied from 24, 000 $h^{-1} to 60, h^{-1}$. The temperature range was from 200 to $600^\circ$C. It was also taken into consideration that the heat and mass transfer resistance of our catalysts was negligible in the study. Experimental results showed that platinum-palladium catalyst was about 1.5-3.9% superior to platinum catalyst in conversion yield. When we used platinum-palladium catalyst, we observed that carbon monoxide oxidation was found to be 1 st order with respect to carbon monoxide concentration. Activation energy of the catalyst was 23.5 kcal/mol.

  • Very thin gate oxide(100-300A) MOS capacitor has been fabricated. The effect of series resistance must be calculated and the exact metal-semiconductor work function difference should be obtained to get the fixed oxide charge density exisiting in oxide. Dilute oxidation make sagy to control oxide thickness and reduce fixed oxide charge density. In case of dilute oxidation, fixed oxide charge density depends on oxidation time. If oxide is very thin, the annealing effect is ignored.

  • In this wort. the effect of anodic oxidation on surface characteristics of high strength PAN-based carbon fibers is investigated in terms of surface and mechanical interfacial properties of the composites. As a result, the acidity of carbon fiber surfaces is increased, due to the development of oxygen functional groups in the presence of anodic oxidation. Also. it is found that the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) is improved in the oxidized fibers-reinforced composites. which can be attributed to the good wettability between fibers and epoxy resin matrix.

  • The oxide scales formed on Ni-18W(at.%) coating that was electrodeposited on steel were investigated using XRD, SEM and TEM. The oxide scales consisted mainly of an outer NiO layer, and an inner thick ($NiWO_4$+NiO) mixed layer. The unoxidized coating below the oxide scale was rich in Ni and depleted in W, owing to the consumption of Wand the resultant Ni enrichment. The oxidation resistance of Ni-18W coating was poorer than that of the TiN coating, due to the formation of nonprotective NiWO$_4$. During oxidation, Ni and the substrate element of Fe diffused outward, while oxygen inward, according to the concentration gradients.

  • The development of colored surface on zinc coating by the oxidation of a melten alloy of zinc with a minor amount of oxygen-avid additive such as tianium has been studied. Using a galvanizing Zinc alloy containing 0.1 to 0.3wt%Ti, gold, purple or blue color was developed clearly and stably, depending upon the extent of oxidation, by air cooling after hot dipping in a bath at temperature of $550^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. The source of the color is light interference with surface oxide layer. THe final color depends on the thickness of the color depends on the thickness of $TiO_2$, played So compositing, temperature and time at elevated temperature after are all controlling variables. Since oxidation film such as $TiO_2$ played role of passivation film, the corrosion resistance in a colored galvanized steel sheet. It is also thought that surface oxide layer of $TiO_2$ inhibited dissolution of the coating layer.

  • Medium carbon steel was aluminized by hot dipping into molten Al or Al-1%Si baths. After hot-dipping in these baths, a thin Al-rich topcoat and a thick alloy layer rich in $Al_5Fe_2$ formed on the surface. A small a mount of FeAl and $Al_3Fe$ was incorporated in the alloy layer. Silicon from the Al-1%Si bath was uniformly distributed throughout the entire coating. The hot dipping increased the microhardness of the steel by about 8 times. Heating at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ however decreased the microhardness through interdiffusion between the coating and the substrate. The oxidation at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ in air formed a thin protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, which provided good oxidation resistance. Silicon was oxidized to amorphous silica, exhibiting a glassy oxide surface.

  • In order to study for corrosion behavior of reinforcing steel with oxidation layer. Experiments were done with various NaCl concentrations and with immersion time in simulated concrete pore solution(SPS) the characteristics of corrosion behavior were measured by polarization resistance method and cyclic potentiodynamic method. reinforcements were coated by epoxy except corrosion without oxidation layer and it also showed two anodic-nose. by the result of potention dynamic test the potential curve shift to low with time and anodic-nose was appeared with 3% NaCl solution after 15 days. By result of cyclic Potentiodynamic test the type of corrosion was different accoding to concentration.

  • Effects of excess Si on the properities of the oxide of CVD tungsten silicide were investigated by comparing the characteristics of the two kinds of thermal oxide for CVD-WSi2.7 and WSi3.1 films on the polycrystalline Si film each other. It is reveraled from AES analysis that Si in the surface region of the silicide film is consumed to make composition and resistivity of the silicide film very nonuniform for the case of the oxidation of WSi3.1, while the underlayer polycrystalline Si was consumed for the case of the oxidation of WSi2.7.

  • Quaternary TiZrAlN nanocomposite thin films with a composition of 20.7Ti-22.2Zr-2.7Al-54.4N (at.%) were deposited by the closed-field unbalanced magnetron sputtering (CFUBMS) method and oxidized in air at temperatures between 500 and $700^{\circ}C$. The oxides formed were $TiO_2$, $ZrO_2$, and $Al_2O_3$. The films had inferior oxidation resistance because the amounts of $ZrO_2$ and $TiO_2$ were large while the amount of $Al_2O_3$ was small. The oxidation progressed primarily by the inward diffusion of oxygen and the outward diffusion of nitrogen.

  • Study was focused on the quenching embrittlement property of Zircaloy-4 cladding simulated Loss Of Coolant Accident (LOCA) environment in terms of high temperature oxidation and phase transformation. Property in LOCA condition of advanced cladding that contained Nb element was also investigated. Claddings were oxidized at given temperature and given time followed by water quenching. The results showed that ${\beta}$ phase which formed at quenching stage has an influence on cladding property. In case of advanced cladding, Nb retards cladding oxidation, thus enhances quenching resistance.
