  • An amperometric biosensor based on carbon paste electrodes (CPEs) for the determination of urea was constructed by enzyme (urease/GL-DH)-modified method. Urea was hydrolyzed to ${NH_4}^+$ by catalyzing urease onto the enzyme-modified electrode surface in sample solution. In the presence of ${\alpha}$-ketoglutarate and reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NADH), a liberated ${NH_4}^+$ produce to L-glutamate and $NAD^+$ by Lglutamate dehydrogenase (GL-DH). After the chemical reaction was proceeded, the electrochemical reaction was occurred that an excess of the NADH was oxidized to $NAD^+$. The oxidation current of NADH was monitored at +1.10 volt vs. Ag/AgCl. An optimum conditions of biosensor were investigated: The optimum pH range for catalyzed hydrolysis reaction of urea was pH 7.0-7.4. The linear response range and detection limit were $2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-5}{\sim}2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-4}M\;and\;5.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}M$, respectively. Another physiological species did not interfere, except L-ascorbic acid.

  • The inertia friction properties of C/C composites manufactured by the processes of pressure and at-mospheric carbonizaton with a commerciallized and two kinds of modified coal-tar pitch as a matrix pre-cursor were investigated. The modifications of a pitch such as the introduction of mesophase and the ad-dition of sulphur into a raw pitch were not effective for a impregnation efficiency conducted in a vacuum and at the same time in a pressure of 5kg/cm2 due to the increase of the pitch viscosity. There was not a difference in the densification increment between the pitch modifications however it was revealed that a pressure carbonization was more advantageous than an atmospheric in the densification and the formation of anisotropic carbon matrix. The friction and wear propertis of C/C having higher degree of matrix cry-stallization higher density and hardness of friction surface showed superiority. As the braking energy was increased the friction coefficients were decreased and reached almost same level at the high kinetic energy of 99.6kJ. The wear trends at 99.6kJ were different from the behaviors of friction ceofficient under the same energy in which an oxidation wear is being considered along with a mechnical wear although the wear rates were almost similar to the friction coefficient at the low energy.

  • Lateral type poly-silicon field emitters were fabricated by utilizing the LOCOS (Local Oxidation of Silicon) process. For the implementation 'of an ideal field emission device with quasi-zero tunneling barrier, a new and fundamental approach has used conducted by introducing an intelligent carbon-based thin layer on the cathode tip surface via a field-assisted self-aligning of carbon (FASAC) process. Fundamental lowering of the turn-on field for the electron emission was feasible through the control of both the tip shape and surface barrier height.

  • In-situ processing route was adopted to disperse carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into $Al_2O_3$ powders homogeneously. The $Al_2O_3$ composite powders with homogeneous dispersion of CNTs could be synthesized by a catalytic route for in-situ formation of CNTs on nano-sized Fe dispersed $Al_2O_3$ powders. CNTs/Fe/$Al_2O_3$ nanopowders were densified by spark plasma sintering (SPS). The hardness and bending strength as well as electrical conductivity increased with increasing sintering temperature. However, the electrical conductivity of the composites sintered at above $1500^{\circ}C$ showed decreased value with increasing sintering temperature due to the oxidation of CNTs.

  • The structure and morphology of epitaxial layer defects in epitaxial Si wafers produced by the Czochralski method were studied using focused ion beam (FIB) milling, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Epitaxial growth was carried out in a horizontal reactor at atmospheric pressure. The p-type Si wafers were loaded into the reactor at about $800^{\circ}C$ and heated to about $1150^{\circ}C$ in $H_2$. An epitaxial layer with a thickness of $4{\mu}m$ was grown at a temperature of 1080-$1100^{\circ}C$. Octahedral void defects, the inner walls of which were covered with a 2-4 nm-thick oxide, were surrounded mainly by $\{111\}$ planes. The formation of octahedral void defects was closely related to the agglomeration of vacancies during the growth process. Cross-sectional TEM observation suggests that the carbon impurities might possibly be related to the formation of oxide defects, considering that some kinds of carbon impurities remain on the Si surface during oxidation. In addition, carbon and oxygen impurities might play a crucial role in the formation of void defects during growth of the epitaxial layer.

  • This study was carried out to increase the treatment efficiency through the improvement of the conventional biological process, and to propose the optimal treatment direction. The optimal treatment conditions were derived based on the results of the spike damage tests in each single process. The removal efficiency of micropharmaceuticals was further increased when an ozone treatment process was added to the biological process compared to the single process. The soil and activated carbon adsorption process was introduced in the post-treatment to remove the micropharmaceutical residues, and the removal efficiency of the pharmaceduticals in the final effluent was more than 85% in spike damage experiment. In particular, the continuous process of biological treatment-ozone-adsorption could ensure the stable treatment of micropharmaceuticals, which had not been efficiently removed in the single process, as it showed more than 80% removal efficiency. Therefore, it is expected that the addition of the ozone oxidation and activated carbon adsorption process to the existing sewage treatment facilities can contribute to the efficient removal of micropharmaceuticals.
