  • BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) is one of the four main types of global navigation satellite systems. The current system has been widely used by the military and by the aerospace, transportation, and marine fields, among others. However, challenges still remain in the BeiDou system, which requires rapid responses for delay-sensitive devices. A differential positioning algorithm called the data center-based differential positioning (DCDP) method is widely used to avoid the influence of errors. In this method, the positioning information of multiple base stations is uploaded to the data center, and the positioning errors are calculated uniformly by the data center based on the minimum variance or a weighted average algorithm. However, the DCDP method has high delay and overload risk. To solve these problems, this paper introduces edge computing to relieve pressure on the data center. Instead of transmitting the positioning information to the data center, a novel method called edge computing-based differential positioning (ECDP) chooses the nearest reference station to perform edge computing and transmits the difference value to the mobile receiver directly. Simulation results and experiments demonstrate that the performance of the ECDP outperforms that of the DCDP method. The delay of the ECDP method is about 500ms less than that of the DCDP method. Moreover, in the range of allowable burst error, the median of the positioning accuracy of the ECDP method is 0.7923m while that of the DCDP method is 0.8028m.

  • People are subject to time sanctions in a busy modern society. Therefore, people find it difficult to eat simple junk food and even exercise, which is bad for their health. As a result, the incidence of chronic diseases is increasing. Also, the importance of making accurate and appropriate inferences to individual characteristics is growing due to unnecessary information overload phenomenon. In this paper, we propose a knowledge reasoning model using association rules and cluster analysis of multi-contexts. The proposed method provides a personalized healthcare to users by generating association rules based on the clusters based on multi-context information. This can reduce the incidence of each disease by inferring the risk for each disease. In addition, the model proposed by the performance assessment shows that the F-measure value is 0.027 higher than the comparison model, and is highly regarded than the comparison model.

  • Introduction: Possible etiologic factors associated with bone loss around implants after implantation are surgical trauma, occlusal overload, periimplantitis, presence of micro gap and the formation of biologic distances. Tarnow et al. observed that the crestal bone loss was greater when the distance between the implants was <3mm than when the implants were ${\geq}\;3mm$ apart. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different interimplant distance on marginal bone and crestal bone resorption in the beagle dogs. Materials and methods: The mandibular premolars of 5 dogs were extracted bilaterally. After 12 weeks of healing, each dog received 7 implants. On each side, implants were separated by 2mm (Group 1) and by 5mm (Group 2). After 16 weeks of healing, the dogs were sacrificed. Marginal bone loss was determined through linear measurements made between the implant-abutment junctions and the most coronal portions of the bone in contact with the implant surface. A line was drawn uniting the implant-abutment junctions of the adjacent implants, and a linear measurement was made at the midpoint in the direction of the most coronal peak of the interimplant bone crest to determine the crestal bone loss. Both of them was measured radiologically and histologically. Result and conclusion: In radiological analysis, the mean of marginal bone loss was $1.26{\pm}0.14mm$ for group 1 and $1.23{\pm}0.34mm$ for group 2, the mean of crestal bone loss was $1.10{\pm}0.14mm$ for group 1 and $1.02{\pm}0.30mm$ for group 2. The results were not statistically significant between 2 groups. In histological analysis, the mean of marginal bone loss was $1.63{\pm}0.48mm$ for group 1 and $1.62{\pm}0.50mm$ for group 2, the mean of crestal bone loss was $1.23{\pm}0.35mm$ for group 1 and $1.15{\pm}0.39mm$ for group 2. The differences were also not statistically significant. The clinical significance of this result is that the increase in the crestal bone loss results in the increase in the distance between the base of the interproximal contact of the crowns and the bone crest, and this determines if papilla will be present or absent between implants. Considering this fact, keeping up sufficient interimplant distance is important to minimize crestal bone loss.

  • Copper (Cu) is an essential trace element indispensable for brain development and function; either excess or deficiency in Cu can cause brain malfunction. While it is known that Cu and Fe homeostasis are strictly regulated in the brain, the question as to how systemic Fe status may influence brain Cu distribution was poorly understood. This study was designed to test the hypothesis that dietary Fe condition affects Cu transport into the brain, leading to an altered brain distribution of Cu. Rats were divided into 3 groups; an Fe-deficient (Fe-D) group which received an Fe-D diet ($3{\sim}5 mg$ Fe/kg), a control group that was fed with normal diet (35mg Fe/kg), and an Fe-overload group whose diet contained an Fe-O diet (20g carbonyl Fe/kg). Following a 4-week treatment, the concentration of Cu/Fe in serum, CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) and brain were determined by AAS, and the uptake rates of Cu into choroids plexus (CP), CSF, brain capillary and parenchyma were determined by an in situ brain perfusion, followed by capillary depletion. In Fe-D and Fe-O, serum Fe level decreased by 91% (p<0.01) and increased by 131% (p<0.01), respectively, in comparison to controls. Fe concentrations in all brain regions tested (frontal cortex, striatum, hippocampus, mid brain, and cerebellum) were lower than those of controls in Fe-D rats (p<0.05), but not changed in Fe-O rats. In Fe-D animals, serum and CSF Cu were not affected, while brain Cu levels in all tested regions (frontal cortex, striatum, hippocampus, mid brain, and cerebellum) were significantly increased (p<0.05). Likewise, the unidirectional transport rate constants $(K_{in})$ of Cu in CP, CSF, brain capillary and parenchyma were significantly increased (p<0.05) in the Fe-D rats. In contrast, with Fe-O, serum, CSF and brain Cu concentrations were significantly decreased as compared to controls (p<0.05). Cu transport was no significant change of Cu transport of serum in Fe-O rats. The mRNA levels of five Cu-related transporters were not affected by Fe status except DMT1 in the CP, which was increased in Fe-D and decreased in Fe-O. Our data suggest that Cu transport into brain and ensuing brain Cu levels are regulated by systemic Fe status. Fe deficiency appears to augment Cu transport by brain barriers, leading to an accumulation of Cu in brain parenchyma.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the grit removal efficiency of tornado block-type vortex grit separator. Vortex grit separator was manufactured for this study, and it was characterized by the impeller and tornado block installed in separator. Impeller was installed to increase water velocity in the separator and tornado block was installed to increase the grit lifting efficiency. Pilot study was also conducted in A sewage treatment plant (STP) in Gyeonggi province from November 2003 to May 2004 (64 days). Major findings are as follows. 1. Impeller was proven to increase water velocity in the grit separator, especially in low flow rate. This influence will increase separation ratio of organics from grits, preventing those organics from sedimentation. 2. Sand (with 0.2~0.3mm size) removal efficiency was over 98 % and 96 %, at the flow rate of $500m^3/day$ and $750m^3/day$ under the condition that impeller rotation velocity kept at 15 rpm. Originally that grit separator was designed to have the capacity of $500m^3/day$. $750m^3/day$ was tried to investigate the performance of this type of grit separator under overload condition. Stable grit removal was still available to the extent of 150% of designed capacity. 3. It took less than 3 minutes for the grit separator to completely lift out 3 kgs of 0.2-0.3 mm sized, settled sand at the bottom to 2,060 mm high above water surface. But it showed the tendency to spend a little more time on lifting the grit as the grit size and the vertical height of the lift increased. 4. During experimental duration in A STP, it was found that the average amount of inlet grit was about 981 g/day (160~1,685 g/day) under $500m^3/day$ of operation condition, but it varied so severely during the experimental duration. After classification of discharged grit according to its size, grit with 0.3-0.42 mm size was found as largest part of output.

  • Background: Pulmonary hypertension is one of the cardiovascular complications of in COPD. However, a diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension requires an invasive test, such as right heart catheterization. NT-proBNP is a cardiac hormone that is elevated when a cardiac volume or pressure overload is present. It was hypothesized that NT-proBNP might play a role in detecting of pulmonary hypertension in COPD patients. Method: The 31 COPD patients, who underwent all of NT-proBNP, echocardiography, and spirometry in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital during the period from November 2003 to July 2005, were retrospectively analyzed. Result: Of the 31 COPD patients, 9 patients had pulmonary hypertension. A significant positive correlation was observed between the NT-proBNP and pulmonary arterial pressure (r=0.589, p=0.002). However, there was no significant correlation observed between the $FEV_1$ and NT-proBNP and $FEV_1$ and pulmonary arterial pressure. Conclusion: NT-proBNP might indicate the presence of pulmonary hypertension in COPD patients.

  • Minutiae-based fingerprint identification systems use minutiae points, which cannot completely characterize local ridge structures. Further, this method requires many methods for matching two fingerprint images containing different number of minutiae points. Therefore, to represent the fired length information for one fingerprint image, the filterbank-based method was proposed as an alternative to minutiae-based fingerprint representation. However, it has two shortcomings. One shortcoming is that similar feature vectors are extracted from the different fingerprints which have the same fingerprint type. Another shortcoming is that this method has overload to reduce the rotation error in the fingerprint image acquisition. In this paper, we propose the minutia-weighted feature vector extraction method that gives more weight in extracting feature value, if the region has minutiae points. Also, we Propose new fingerprint alignment method that uses the average local orientations around the reference point. These methods improve the fingerprint system's Performance and speed, respectively. Experimental results indicate that the proposed methods can reduce the FRR of the filterbank-based fingerprint matcher by approximately 0.524% at a FAR of 0.967%, and improve the matching performance by 5% in ERR. The system speed is over 1.28 times faster.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dietary Fe and Se levels on lipid contents of serum and liver in growing rats fed adequate Fe(35ppm), medium-high Fe(70ppm), high Fe(140ppm), adequate Se(0.05ppm), and high Se(0.Sppm) for 6 weeks. Serum levels of Fe and Se increased as the levels of dietary Fe and Se were increased, respectively(P<0.05, p<0.05), Serum levels of total cholesterol and (LDL+VLDL)-cholesterol increased as the level of dietary Fe was increased (p<0.001, p<0.001), and were lower in high-Se group than those in adequate-Se group(p<0.001, P<0.001). Liver Fe level in High-Se group was lower than that in adequate-Se group(p<0.01) and liver Se level decreased as the dietary Fe level was increased(p<0.05). Liver levels of phospholipid and total lipid in high-Se group were lower than that in adequate-Se group(p<0.05 p<0.01). Liver levels of triglyceride and total lipid decreased as the level of dietary Fe was increased(p<0.05 p<0.01). From these results, it is considered that serum lipid contents are increased in case of Fe overload and decreased with adding Se. Therefore, it could be suggested that adequate Fe intake and Se addition are recommended for prevention of lipid increment in serum.

  • Molded insulation materials are widely used from large electric power transformer apparatus to small electrical machinery and apparatus. In this study, by adding MgO with the average particle of several tens nm and the excellent thermal conductivity into molding material, we improved the problem of insulation breakdown strength decrease according to rising temperature in overload or in bad environmental condition. We confirmed the life evaluation by using the insulation breakdown and inverse involution to investigate the electrical characteristics of nano-composites materials. By using a scanning electron microscope, it is confirmed that MgO power with the average particle size of several tens nm is distributed and the filler particles is uniformly distributed in the cross section of specimens. And it is confirmed that the insulation breakdown strength of Virgin specimens is rapidly decreased at the high temperature area. But it is confirmed that the insulation breakdown strength of specimens added MgO slow decreased by thermal properties in the high temperature area improved by the contribution of the heat radiation of MgO and the suppression of tree. The results of life prediction using inverse involution, it is confirmed that the life of nano-composites is improved by contribution of MgO according to the predicted insulation breakdown strength after 10 years of specimens added 5.0 wt% of MgO is increased about 2.9 times at RT, and 4.9 times at $100^{\circ}C$ than Virgin specimen, respectively.

  • Statement of problem: Implant inclination and cantilever loading increse loads distributed to implants, potentially causing biomechanical complications. Controversy exists regarding the effect of the intentionally distal-inclined implant for the reduction of the cantilever length. Purpose: This study investigated the stress distribution at the bone/implant interface and prostheses with 3D finite element stress analysis by using four different cantilever lengths and implant inclinations in a mandibular implant-supported bar overdenture. Material and methods: Four 3-D finite element models were created in which 4 implants were placed in the interforaminal area and had four different cantilver lengths(10, 6.9, 4 and 1.5mm) and distal implant inclinations$(0^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ})$ respectively. Vortical forces of 120N and oblique forces of 45N were applied to the molar area. Stress distribution in the bone around the implant was analysed under different distal implant inclinations. Results: Analysis of the von Mises stresses for the bone/implant interfaces and prostheses revealed that the maximum stresses occurred at the most distal bone/implant interface and the joint of bar and abutment, located on the loaded side and significantly incresed with the implant inclinations, especially over $45^{\circ}$. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it was suggested that too much distal inclination over 45 degrees can put the implant at risk of overload and within the dimension of the constant sum of a anterior-posterior spread and cantilever length, a distal implant inclination compared to cantilever length had the much larger effect on the stress distribution at the bone/implant interface.
