  • The chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technique spreads the data signal over a frequency bandwidth wider than minimum required bandwidth. By using time overlapping, the bit rate in CSS can be increased. However, for reliable transmission of data signal, the intersymbol interference (ISI) due to overlap should be analyzed. In this paper, the relation between the degree of overlap and ISI is analyzed in direct modulation binary phase shift keying CSS systems. In some cases, the overlap does not incur ISI at all and the ISI fluctuates or monotonically increases as the number of overlaps changes. It is also shown that the simulation results closely agree with the analytic results.

  • Although several research efforts have been directed to fast-tracking to reduce the total delivery time, few researches have been studied on concurrent engineering in construction projects. The focus of fast-tracking is primarily on overlapping independent activity pairs. In comparison, the focus of concurrent engineering is on overlapping dependent activity pairs. Dependent activities are much harder to overlap successfully. This paper presents a simulation-based Concurrent Engineering methodology to optimize the overall duration of a set of design activities in a project by modelling key factors that determine the duration of individual activities and overlap between dependent activities. This methodology involves determining how much to overlap activities, how to decide which activities to overlap and the corresponding cost and time tradeoffs using a discrete event model solution. This simulation model, therefore, can be used as a reference on decision-making to define optimum point between time and cost.

  • For reporting national greenhouse gas inventory in forest sector, the forest growing stock from the National Forest Inventory (NFI) system has used as activity data sources. The National Forest Inventory system was changed from rotation system by province to annual system by 5 years across the country. The forest growing stocks based on the new inventory system produced a different trend compared to the previous estimations. This study was implemented to recalculate previous forest growing stocks for time series consistency at a national level. The recalculation of forest growing stock was conducted in an overlap approach by the IPCC guideline. In order to support the more consistency data, we used calibration factors between applied stand volumes in 1985 and 2012, respectively. As a result, the time series of recalculated forest growing stock was to be consistency using the overlap approach and the calibration factor with the lower middle/middle site index. According to the applied overlap period, however, we will recalculate activity data using more complete data from national forest inventory system.

  • First, we give a linear-time algorithm to find the first overlap in an arbitrary binary word. Second, we implement the algorithm in the C language and show that the number of comparisons in this algorithm is less than 31n, where n$\geq$3 is the length of the input word.

  • Problems of overlap errors and side-lobe printing by the design rule reduction in the lithography process using attenuated phase-shifting masks(attPSM) have been serious. Overlap errors and side-lobes can be simultaneously solved by the rule-based correction using scattering bars with the rules extracted from test patterns. Process parameters affecting the attPSM lithography simulation have been determined by the fitting method to the process data. Overlap errors have been solved applying the correction rules to the metal patterns overlapped with contact/via. Moreover, the optimal insertion rule of the scattering bars has made it possible to suppress the side-lobes and to get additional pattern fidelity at the same time.

  • Recently, a variable valve timing system has been widely adopted in internal combustion engine in order to improve the fuel economy and torque at low engine speed. In addition, it is known that varying valve timing according to the various engine operations could reduce exhaust gas, especially NOx, because of residual gas by valve overlap. In this study, to improve the low exhaust gas and fuel economy at part load condition, the residual gas and back flow of exhaust gas due to valve overlap were calculated computationally. Moreover, the characteristics of engine performances and NOx formations were investigated with the experiment of combination of intake and exhaust valve timing condition. Under these various valve operating conditions, the effects of both the positive valve overlap and negative valve overlap(valve underlap) were examined simultaneously. Finally, the characteristics of cyclic THC emission were analyzed by using Fast Response FID(FR-FID) in the cylinder, intake port and exhaust port positions. Besides, the effect of the different gradients of the valve timing change on engine performance was investigated and an optimum control strategy was suggested.

  • In this paper, we propose a low delay window switching MDCT (Modified Discrete Cosine Transform) method for speech/audio coder. The window switching algorithm is used to reduce the degradation of sound quality in non-stationary trasient duration and to reduce the algorithm delay by using the low delay TDAC (Time Domain Aliasing Cancellation). While the conventional window switching algorithms uses overlap-add with different lengths, the proposed method uses the fixed overlap add length. It results the reduction of algorithm delay by half and 1 bit reduction in frame indication information by using 2 window types. We apply the proposed algorithm to G.729.1 based on MDCT in order to evaluate the performance. The propose method shows the reduction of algorithm delay by half while speech quality of the proposed method maintains same as the conventional method.

  • The method of calculating overlap dispersion caused by group velocity mismatch between uv and visible pulses in ultrafast pump-probe experiments is presented to discuss limitations of the time resolution and signal intensity. The calculations show arrangements using a single focusing lens shall result in undesirable time resolution and low signal intensity. Achromatic doublets result in unrealistic solutions. However, dramatic improvement in the time resolution and signal intensity is expected in the optical arrangements using separate lens for each pulse and in the arrangements using a cutoff secondary lens with a main lens. lens.

  • The current electromagnetic articulography study analyzes several articulatory measures and examines whether, and if so, how they are interconnected, with a focus on cluster types and an additional consideration of speech rates and morphosyntactic contexts. Using articulatory data on non-assimilating contexts from three Seoul-Korean speakers, we examine how speaker-dependent gestural overlap between C1 and C2 in a low vowel context (/a/-to-/a/) and their resulting intergestural coordination are realized. Examining three C1C2 sequences (/k(#)t/, /k(#)p/, and /p(#)t/), we found that three normalized gestural overlap measures (movement onset lag, constriction onset lag, and constriction plateau lag) were correlated with one another for all speakers. Limiting the scope of analysis to C1 velar stop (/k(#)t/ and /k(#)p/), the results are recapitulated as follows. First, for two speakers (K1 and K3), i) longer normalized constriction plateau lags (i.e., less gestural overlap) were observed in the pre-/t/ context, compared to the pre-/p/ (/k(#)t/>/k(#)p/), ii) the tongue dorsum at the constriction offset of C1 in the pre-/t/ contexts was more anterior, and iii) these two variables are correlated. Second, the three speakers consistently showed greater horizontal distance between the vertical tongue dorsum and the vertical tongue tip position in /k(#)t/ sequences when it was measured at the time of constriction onset of C2 (/k(#)t/>/k(#)p/): the tongue tip completed its constriction onset by extending further forward in the pre-/t/ contexts than the uncontrolled tongue tip articulator in the pre-/p/ contexts (/k(#)t/>/k(#)p/). Finally, most speakers demonstrated less variability in the horizontal distance of the lingual-lingual sequences, which were taken as the active articulators (/k(#)t/=/k(#)p/ for K1; /k(#)t/

  • On-line handwritten character recognition be achieved successful results since effectively neural networks divided the letter which is the time ordering of strokes and stroke position. But off-line handwritten character recognition is in difficulty of incomplete preprocessing because has not information of motion or time and has frequently overlap of the letter and many noise occurrence. consequently off-line handwritten character recognition needs study of various methods. This paper apply watershed algorithm to preprocessing for off-line handwritten hangul character recognition. This paper presents effective method in four steps in watershed algorithm as consider execution time of watershed algorithm and quality of result image. As apply watershed algorithm with effective structure to preprocessing, can get to the good result of image enhancement and binarization. In this experiment, this paper is estimate the previous method with this paper method for execution time and quality in image. Average execution time on the previous method is 2.16 second and Average execution time on this paper method is 1.72 second. While this paper method is remove noise effectively with overlap stroke, the previous method does not seem to be remove noise effectively with overlap stroke.
