  • The Fast Handover protocol [1] provides seameless handover in wireless If networks by minimizing handover latency, which uses anticipation based on layer 2 (L2) trigger information. Therefore, it incurs higher signaling costs compared with the basic Mobile U protocol. Furthermore, since the L2 trigger is based on fluctuating wireless channel states, the handover anticipation may sometimes be incorrect. In the case of incorrect anticipation, unnecessary buffer space may be used for the purpose of providing a smooth handover. Therefore, it is essentical to analyze these overhead costs, in order to evaluate and compare the performance of Fast Handover with that of the basic Mobile U protocol. In this paper, we analyzed the overhead associated with Fast Handover including the signaling cost and the packet delivery cost. We formulated these costs based on a timing diagram and compared Fast Handover with basic Mobile Ipv6 in terms of their packet loss rates and buffer requirements. Also, we studied the impact of the L2 triggering time on the total overhead cost.

  • Modular construction is combined with manufacturing production process and conventional construction industry technique. Considering characteristic of modular construction production process, manufacturing facilities require indirect costs for utilities, equipment, and overall maintenance, which can affect modular units pricing. However, current modular construction cost classification is inadvertent to reflect the manufacturing overhead costs, because it is generally added as a percentage to sum of labor, material and equipment as it called in single cost pool used. This process is easy to estimate the total construction cost at the project starting points, but it brings on misunderstanding of project profit estimations by "cross subsidization phenomenon". To prevent this situation, in this research aims to provide modular construction overhead cost handling process at the detailed indirect cost calculation for manufacturing stage using Activity-Based Costing as one of the powerful method for overhead costs estimation and allocation. Using this research results, modular construction cost estimators have more detailed cost information of modular units and prevent to misallocate indirect costs. Also, it can be utilized to aid the understanding of the company's profit structure.

  • At certain wavelengths, single-pixel imaging is considered to be a solution that can achieve high quality imaging and also reduce costs. However, achieving imaging of complex scenes is an overhead-intensive process for single-pixel imaging systems, so low efficiency and high consumption are the biggest obstacles to their practical application. Improving efficiency to reduce overhead is the solution to this problem. Salient object detection is usually used as a pre-processing step in computer vision tasks, mimicking human functions in complex natural scenes, to reduce overhead and improve efficiency by focusing on regions with a large amount of information. Therefore, in this paper, we explore the implementation of salient object detection based on single-pixel imaging after a single pixel, and propose a scheme to reconstruct images based on Fourier bases and use U2Net models for salient object detection.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to estimate incomes and costs of the medical clinics by using secondary data. Methodology: The medical incomes and costs were estimated from 405 clinics operated by sole practitioner providing out-patient services among all clinics subject to the Medical Cost Survey on National Health Insurance Patients in 2017, excluding dental clinics and oriental medical clinics. The incomes and costs of the medical clinics were reflected with incomes and costs of health insurance benefits and were calculated by types of medical services (i.e., basic care, surgery, general treatment, functional test, specimen test and imaging test). The costs were classified as follows: labor costs, equipment costs, material costs and overhead costs. Secondary data was used to estimate the incomes and costs of the medical clinics. For allocation bases for costs for each type of the medical service, the ratio of revenue from health insurance benefits by types of medical services was applied. However, labor costs were calculated with the activity ratio by types of medical services and occupations, using clinical expert panel data. Finding: The percentage of health insurance income for all medical income was 73.1%. The health insurance cost per clinic was 401,864 thousand won. Labor cost accounted for the largest portion of the health insurance income was 191,229 thousand won (47.6%), followed by management cost was 170,018 thousand won (42.3%), materials cost was 35,434 thousand won (8.8%), and equipment costs was 5,183 thousand won (1.3%). Practical Implications: This study suggests a method of estimating incomes and costs of medical clinic services by using secondary data. It could efficiently provide incomes and costs to assess an appropriate level of the health insurance fee to the clinics.

  • After many casualties of conventional bulk carriers in recent years, a double hull bulk carrier was proposed to enhance the structural safety of a side shell and a transverse bulkhead. In this paper, two alternative structural designs of a double hull bulk carrier were carried out based on the Lloyd's rule. One has the double sided hull with longitudinal stiffeners and the other has that with a girder. The final structural design was examined in comparison with an existing single hull bulk carrier from the viewpoints of cargo hold capacity and the increases of weight and construction cost. Generally, the construction cost of a ship consists of the costs of material, labor and overhead cost. But, in this study, the relative construction cost concept was introduced to compare the economical validity more precisely. In this concept, fixed overhead cost is excluded in the assessment of construction cost, and only the variable overhead cost is added up to labor cost. As the result of this study, a double hull bulk carrier can be constructed within 1% increase of weight and construction cost.

  • Additional costs as well as schedule delay are occurred due to change orders in today's construction projects. Additional costs, overhead calculation methods are of various types. In a foreign country cases, many claims related to the loss of labor productivity quote research statistics data. In domestic cases, the study of the reason why the loss of labor productivity occurs and its effect have not been performed. Therefore, this paper analyzes factors affecting lost productivity and a methodology is presented to estimate the lost productivity.

  • As critical infrastructure, bridges play an indispensable role in facilitating the distribution of goods. When bridges reach their end of useful life or get damaged by natural disasters such as earthquakes or storms, they have to be removed and reconstructed. When bridges in service need to be reconstructed, user costs occur from vehicle detours and traffic congestions, and social costs occur from noise and dust during construction periods. However, these user and social costs are not considered during reconstruction and the evaluation methods of those costs are vague. Thus, there is lack of appropriate bridge types that consider these costs. Therefore, this paper identifies the social overhead costs that occur during bridge reconstruction, which is also called, users' socioeconomic values. Next, it proposes a method to evaluate user costs during bridge reconstruction, and appraises the method. User costs are evaluated based on traffic information, social and material volumes including the bridge's daily traffic volume, peak hours, detour distance and time. In addition, time delay costs due to traffic operational costs and bridge reconstruction are also taken into consideration.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the ratio of cost object in terms of the disposal cost estimation. According to the results, the ratio of operating cost is the most significant object in total cost. There are a lot of differences between the disposal costs and product costs in view of their constituents. While the product costs may be classified by the direct materials cost, direct manufacturing labor cost, and factory overhead, the disposal cost factors should be constituted by the technical factors and the non-technical factors.

  • The mobile network allows redundant transmission via disjoint paths to support high-reliability communication (e.g., ultrareliable and low-latency communications [URLLC]). Although redundant transmission can improve communication reliability, it also increases network costs (e.g., traffic and control overhead). In this study, we propose a reliability-guaranteed multipath allocation algorithm (RG-MAA) that allocates appropriate paths by considering the path setup time and dynamicity of the reliability paths. We develop an optimization problem using a constrained Markov decision process (CMDP) to minimize network costs while ensuring the required communication reliability. The evaluation results show that RG-MAA can reduce network costs by up to 30% compared with the scheme that uses all possible paths while ensuring the required communication reliability.

  • In the highly competitive construction industry, a slight inaccuracy of estimation can easily cause the loss of a project. Erroneous experience-based cost estimates or allocations of on-site supervisory manpower often offset the profit gained from the project and may jeopardize the management processes. To counter these types of problems, we develop a model using mathematical analysis and case-based reasoning to automate the allocation of on-site supervisory manpower and estimate construction site costs. The method is founded upon laborious data collection processes and analysis by matching statistical assumptions, and is applicable to construction projects. In the modeling the costs and allocation of on-site supervisory manpower are quantified for both owners and contractors before initiating or bidding on the projects. The findings confirm that the degree of variation of the model predictions has an accuracy rate at 88.47%. Single-site construction projects can be accurately predicted and the assignment of supervisory manpower feasibly automated.
