  • We describe a method for the in-orbit calibration of body-mounted magnetometers based on the CHAOS-7 geomagnetic field model. The code is designed to find the true calibration parameters autonomously by using only the onboard magnetometer data and the corresponding CHAOS outputs. As the model output and satellite data have different coordinate systems, they are first transformed to a Star Tracker Coordinate (STC). Then, non-linear optimization processes are run to minimize the differences between the CHAOS-7 model and satellite data in the STC. The process finally searches out a suite of calibration parameters that can maximize the model-data agreement. These parameters include the instrument gain, offset, axis orthogonality, and Euler rotation matrices between the magnetometer frame and the STC. To validate the performance of the Python code, we first produce pseudo satellite data by convoluting CHAOS-7 model outputs with a prescribed set of the 'true' calibration parameters. Then, we let the code autonomously undistort the pseudo satellite data through optimization processes, which ultimately track down the initially prescribed calibration parameters. The reconstructed parameters are in good agreement with the prescribed (true) ones, which demonstrates that the code can be used for actual instrument data calibration. This study is performed using Python 3.8.5, NumPy 1.19.2, SciPy 1.6, AstroPy 4.2, SpacePy 0.2.1, and ChaosmagPy 0.5 including the CHAOS-7.6 geomagnetic field model. This code will be utilized for processing NextSat-1 and Small scale magNetospheric and Ionospheric Plasma Experiment (SNIPE) data in the future.

  • An automated calibration system of sound level meters was developed and tested. As a standard sound source, the speaker unit(Forstex FE208) cabineted by 440 * 390 * 490 mm$^{3}$(LHW) volume wood box was adopted. Including this source, the driving part was found out to have a good linearity of sound pressure output vs AC input. We use the Hybrid-Bisect, /Newton-Raphson method modified by the linearity as searching algorithm. Personal computer and program do the control, measurements, and calculations and finally do the accumulation of useful data and results. Several trials of automatic calibration using this developed system give reliable results.

  • This paper presents hardware implementation of background timing-skew calibration technique for time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters (TI ADCs). The timing skew between any two adjacent analog-digital (A/D) channels is detected by using pure digital Finite Impulse Response (FIR) delay filter. This paper includes hardware architecture of the system, main units and small sub-blocks along with control logic circuits. Moreover, timing diagrams of logic simulations using ModelSim are provided and discussed for further understanding about simulations. Simulation process in MATLAB and Verilog is also included and provided with basic settings need to be done. For hardware implementation it not practical to work with all samples. Hence, the simulation is conducted on 512 TI ADC output samples which are stored in the buffer simultaneously and the correction arithmetic is done on those samples according to the time skew algorithm. Through the simulated results, we verified the implemented hardware is working well.

  • This paper presents testing and self-calibration of RF circuits using MEMS switches to identify process-related defects and out of specification circuits. We have developed a novel multi-tone dither test technique where the test stimulus is generated by modulating the RF carrier signal with a multi-tone signal generated using an Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) with additive white Gaussian noise. This test stimulus is provided as input to the RF circuit and peak-to-average ratio (PAR) is measured at the output. For a faulty circuit, a significant difference is observed in the value of PAR as compared to a fault-free circuit. Simulation is performed for various circuit conditions such as fault-free as well as fault-induced and their corresponding PARs are stored in the look-up table. This testing and self-calibration technique is exhaustive and efficient for present-day communication systems.

  • The input and output device requires precise color representation and CMS (Color Management System) because of the increasing number of ways to apply the digital image into electronic publishing. However, there are slight differences in the device dependent color signal among the input and output devices. Also, because of the non-linear conversion of the input signal value to the output signal value, there are color differences between the original copy and the output copy. It seems necessary for device-dependent color information values to change into device-independent color information values. When creating an original copy through electronic publishing, there should be color management with the input and output devices. From the devices' three phases of calibration, characterization and color conversion, the device-dependent color should undergo a color transformation into a device-independent color. In this paper, an experiment was done where the input device used the linear multiple regression and the sRGB color space to perform a color transformation. The output device used the GOG, GOGO and sRGB for the color transformation. After undergoing a color transformation in the input and output devices, the best results were created when the original target underwent a color transformation by the scanner and digital camera input device by the linear multiple regression, and the LCD output device underwent a color transformation by the GOG model.

  • A new torque measuring apparatus adopting the basic principle of a capacitive type sensor is proposed in this article. Two plate electrodes are working as a capacitive sensor, whose capacitance varies as torque is applied. One end of each plate is connected to the torque carrying shaft. Output characteristics of the torque sensor were theoretically analyzed and its validity was investigated through experiment. Calculations and calibration experiments show that the output is nonlinear, that is, the sensitivity is very high at low torque but decreases as torque increases. The sensitivity of the proposed system is about 100 times roughly higher than that of a conventional 4-strain gauge type torque sensor.

  • A 6-Gb/s differential voltage mode driver is presented whose output impedance and pre-emphasis level can be controlled independently. The voltage mode driver consists of five binary-weighted slices each of which has four sub-drivers. The output impedance is controlled by the number of enabled slices while the pre-emphasis level is determined by how many sub-drivers in the enabled slices are driven by post-cursor input. A prototype transmitter with a voltage-mode driver implemented in a 65-nm CMOS logic process consumes 34.8-mW from a 1.2-V power supply and its pre-emphasized output signal shows 165-mVpp,diff and 0.56-UI eye opening at the end of a cable with 10-dB loss at 3-GHz.

  • Dual channel Radiometer for Earth and Atmospheric Monitoring (DREAM) is the main payload on Science and Technology SATellite-2 (STSAT-2) of Korea. DREAM is two-channel microwave radiometer with linear polarization, and operating at center frequencies of 23.8 GHz and 37 GHz. An equation for DREAM calibration is derived which accounts for losses and re-radiation in the microwave components of the radiometer due to physical temperature. This paper describes the radiometric calibration equation to get antenna temperature ($T_A$) from the measured output data. At lower altitude, the measured deep space temperature is contaminated by middle atmosphere and earth radiation. In this paper, we presented the detail mathematical formulation to find the altitude up to which cold source brightness temperature is not affected by earth and middle atmosphere radiation. The DREAMPFM data is used to calculate the performance parameters (linearity, sensitivity, dynamic range, and etc.) of the system.

  • The KOMPSAT-2 satellite is a push-broom system with MSC (Multi Spectral Camera) which contains a panchromatic band and four multi-spectral bands covering the spectral range from 450nm to 900nm. The PAN band is composed of six CCD array with 2528 pixels. And the MS band has one CCD array with 3792 pixels. Raw imagery generated from a push-broom sensor contains vertical streaks caused by variability in detector response, variability in lens falloff, pixel area, output amplifiers and especially electrical gain and offset. Relative radiometric calibration is necessary to account for the detector-to-detector non-uniformity in this raw imagery. Non-uniformity correction (NUC) is that the process of performing on-board relative correction of gain and offset for each pixel to improve data compressibility and to reduce banding and streaking from aggregation or re-sampling in the imagery. A relative gain and offset are calculated for each detector using scenes from uniform target area such as a large desert, forest, sea. In the NUC of KOMPSAT-2, The NUC table for each pixel are divided as HF NUC (high frequency NUC) and LF NUC (low frequency NUC) to apply to few restricted facts in the operating system ofKOMPSAT-2. This work presents the algorithm and process of NUC table generation and shows the imagery to compare with and without calibration.
