  • An impact localization for a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composite plate was performed using the multiplexed fiber bragg grating (FBG) sensors and the error-outlier based impact localization algorithm. We found that the optimal impact localization with the maximum error of 31.82 mm and the averaged error of 6.31 mm are obtained when the error threshold (ET) and constant level (CL) are 0.3 nm and 110, respectively. Moreover, the detailed process of impact localization under certain optimal parameters and the relevant results were thoroughly investigated. We conclude that the multiplexed FBG sensors and the error-outlier based impact localization algorithm are suitable for an impact localization on composite structures, and expect that they can be utilized for various structural health monitoring (SHM) in the future.

  • Outliers adversely affect model identification, parameter estimation, and forecast in time series data. In particular, when outliers consist of a patch of additive outliers, the current outlier detection procedures suffer from the masking and swamping effects which make them inefficient. In this paper, we propose new outlier detection procedure based on high breakdown estimators, called as the dual robust filtering. Empirical and simulation studies in the autoregressive model with orders p show that the proposed procedure is effective.

  • As flying robots are becoming popular, there are increased needs to use themforsuch purposes as parcel delivery, serving in restaurants, and stage performances. To control flying robots such as quad copters, localization is essential. In order to properly position flying robots, many techniques are in development, including IR (infra-red)-based systemswhich catch markers on a flying robot in order that it can position itself. However, this technique demonstrates only short coverage. Furthermore, localization from inertial sensors diverges as time passes. For this reason, this paper suggests a TWR (two-way ranging) based positioning technique. Despite the weaknesses in currently available TWR system, this paper suggests a self-positioning and outlier detection technique in order to provide reliable position information with a faster update rate. The self-positioning system sends a shorter message which reduces wireless traffic. By detecting and removing outlier measurements, a positioning result with better accuracy is acquired. Finally, this paper shows that the suggesting system detects outlierssequentially from less than half the number of anchors in localization system according to the degree of outlier in measurement and the noise level. By performing an outlier algorithm, better positioning accuracy is acquired as shown in the experimental result.

  • An exact distribution of the test statistic to test for multiple outlier candidates does not generally exist; therefore, tests of individual outliers (or tests using simulated critical-values) are usually conducted instead of testing for groups of outliers. This article is on procedures to test outlying observations. We suggest a method that can be applied to arbitrary observations or multiple outlier candidates detected by an outlier detecting method. A Monte Carlo study performance is used to compare the proposed method with others.

  • Outlier detection methods without performing a test often do not succeed in detecting multiple outliers because they are structurally vulnerable to a masking effect or a swamping effect. This paper considers testing procedures supplemented to a clustering-based method of identifying the group with a minority of the observations as outliers. One of general steps is performing a variety of t-test on individual outlier-candidates. This paper proposes a sequential procedure for searching for outliers by changing cutoff values on a cluster tree and performing a test on a set of outlier-candidates. The proposed method is illustrated and compared to existing methods by an example and Monte Carlo studies.

  • The objective of this study is to perform outlier analysis to obtain the distribution of groundwater levels through the best model. The groundwater levels are measured in 10, 25 and 30 piezometers in Seoul, Daejeon and Suncheon in South Korea. Fifty-eight empirical distribution functions were applied to determine a suitable fit for the measured groundwater levels. The best fitted models based on the measured values are determined as the Generalized Pareto distribution, the Johnson SB distribution and the Normal distribution for Seoul, Daejeon and Suncheon, respectively; the reliability is estimated through the Anderson-Darling method. In this study, to choose the appropriate confidence interval, the relationship between the amount of outlier data and the confidence level is demonstrated, and then the 95% is selected at a reasonable confidence level. The best model shows a smaller error ratio than the GEV while the Mahalanobis distance and outlier labelling methods results are compared and validated. The outlier labelling and Mahalanobis distance based on median shown higher validated error ratios compared to their mean equivalent suggesting, the methods sensitivity to data structure.

  • It is wellknown that the left truncated exponential distribution with positivity constraint on the location parameter is appropriate as a lifetime distribution model, In this paper, some Bayes estimators of the parameters and reliability for the left truncated exponential lifetime distribution when an unidentified-failure outlier is included and it is excluded in the exchangeable outlier model are proposed, and the performances of these proposed Bayes estimators are also discussed.

  • In this paper, we considered three methods for outlier identification sample surveys. First, we studied method of handling and adjusting outliers in normal population. Second, we studied existing methods using mean, maximum and minimum and proposed a test using of median which well reflects characteristic of data regardless of sampling distribution. Finally, we showed our test using median works better than Dixon and mean test through simulation.

  • We shall propose several estimators and confidence intervals for the scale parameter in a uniform distribution with the presence of a generalized uniform outlier and obtain mean squared errors(MSE) for their proposed estimators. And we shall compare numerical MSE's for the proposed several estimators of the scale parameter. Also we shall compare numerically expected lengths of confidence intervals of the scale parameter in a uniform distribution with the presence of a generalized uniform outlier.

And we shall compare numerically efficiencies for proposed estimators of the scale and shape parameters in the small sample sizes.
