  • The present study is to identify discharge characteristic from the mouth of floating debris in the Nakdong River through real time tracking of moving route and by analyzing hydrometeorologic environmental. To identify the path and route of outflow through the mouth of the river of floating debris, small-sized buoy equipped with satellite location transmitters was used. Moreover, to identify hydrometeorologic environmental, flux of the river, change of discharge of the River-Mouth Weir and wind direction of the mouth of the river area were analyzed. From now on, the present study is expected to be utilized as basic data to identify damage and flowing into nearby ocean of the floating debris of Nakdong River in time of severe rain storm.

  • This study investigated the transformation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in a free-water surface flow constructed wetland. Pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) coupled with preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (prep-HPLC) was used to analyze the compositions of biopolymers (polysaccharides, amino sugars, proteins, polyhydroxy aromatics, lipids and lignin) in DOM according to the molecular size at three sampling points of the water flow: inflow, midflow, and outflow. The prep-HPLC results verified the decomposition of DOM through the decrease in the number of peaks from three to one in the chromatograms of the sampling points. The Py-GC/MS results for the degradable peaks indicated that biopolymers relating to polysaccharides and proteins gradually biodegraded with the water flow. On the other hand, the recalcitrant organic fraction (the remaining peak) in the outflow showed a relatively high concentration of aromatic compounds. Therefore, the ecological processes in the constructed wetland caused DOM to become more aromatic and homogeneous. This indicated that the constructed wetland can be an effective buffer area for releasing biochemically stable DOM, which has less influence on biological water quality indicators, e.g., biochemical oxygen demand, into an aquatic ecosystem.

  • Nonylphenol is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that is the degradation product of the nonionic surfactants nonylphenol ethoxylates. To understand the contamination and behavioral characteristics of nonylphenol, we measured the nonylphenol concentrations in surface water in the lower reaches of the Suyeong River, Korea. The results were used to estimate the material balance. The target area was divided into three regions to estimate the material balance of nonylphenol. In region 1, in flux of the dissolved nonylphenol was 282.3 g/day and the nonylphenol influx in particulate suspended solids was 1,582.8 g/day. The dissolved nonylphenol outflow discharged toward region 2 was 192.5 g/day, while the adsorption to particulate suspended solids was 89.8 g/day. Within the particulate suspended solids, the outflow to region 2 was 1,250.0 g/day, while the estimated amount settling in the sediments was 422.7 g/day. The adsorption of dissolved nonylphenol to the particulate suspended solids in regions 1 and 2 was 31.8% and 54.9%, respectively. In region 3, the desorption rate was 8.8%.

  • The objective of this study is to estimate the load of pollutants caused from the forest area among non-point pollutants within the Juam lake. The surveyed forest area was classified into broad-leaved, conifer, mixed and herbage area by forest tree type. Water quality and flux were investigated under rainfall and non-rainfall, respectively. Then, pollutant loading was evaluated by using the values of unit pollutant loading factor of each point and area of forest zone. Water quality analysis results of runoff by forest tree types were as follows. - Annual BOD, $COD_{Mn}\;and\;COD_{Cr}$ concentration of runoff in conifer area was high, and particle and biological recalcitrant compounds were flowed highly. - SS, T-N and T-P concentration was high in runoff from broad-leaved area, and biological degradable compounds was flowed. - Water quality of water from valley was maintained good under non-rainfall and could be utilized as fresh drinking water. Through water quality standard investigation, a countermeasure establishment was necessary to secure a good quality of drinking water - BOD, $COD_{Mn},\;and\;COD_{Cr}$ concentration of Bo-sung river was higher 1.5 times than other 2 streams, and because of high T-N, and T-P concentration in Songgwang stream, the management for this was necessary.

  • This study is based on the need to reform mixed use plan of school facilities considering the characteristics of depressed downtown area. It started with the object to make a plan by deducting function of place required and corresponded to the characteristics of depressed downtown area in Pohang city. As the result of researching present status and the characteristics of six elementary schools in Pohang which the number of student has decreased, it is found that they are required to have change in the region of depressed downtown area which have fallen behind and obsolete school facilities which idle classrooms have increased and to have reformations of a city are characterized by 5 types as poor life environment, lack of cultural facilities as community institution, poor open-space and ecological environment, non-activation of conventional market and contraction of commerce industry by outflow of industry, transfer of administration operation function and etc. and the region of school under researching shows these characteristics. I planed the mixed use program with factors of local community facility, status of school facility use and depressed area's characteristics. Finally, I propose the mixed use plan of school facilities as the strong point of sustainable development which influences on and be influenced by regional characteristics and structure of city.

  • In order to investigate the effect of a pouring rain that it follows in the typhoon, the effect analysis with actual measurement data of rainfall outflow it follows in flood basin is necessary. Also there is a case that it analyzes with the fact that the rainfall occurs identically in whole basin in case of the rainfall outflow analysis, but the actual rainfall distribution from the basin very will be irregular and the interpretation which it reflects must become accomplished. It created spatial information of terrain, land use and the soil using GIS. It created topographical factor of the subject area and calculated CN(runoff curve number) with WMS(Watershed Modeling System). It calculated runoff using a HEC-1 model and the Rational Method connected at the WMS. By connecting GIS and WMS, it calculated the effect of a pouring rain and runoff from the construction area. Also it will be able to apply with a basic data in more efficient runoff analysis.

  • There are many factors that cause uneven regional developments in the country and one of main factors is outflow of regional income or products. The purpose of this study is to analyze regional production runoff by comparing GRDP and GRNI in basic local governments level. In this study, GRNI of basic local governments are estimated by local income tax data, The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, GRNI is more concentrated than GRDP. The analysis of Moran I showed that the spatial autocor-relation of GRNI is more distinct than that of GRDP. Local Moran I analysis shows that spatial hot spots and cold spots are more apparent in GRNI than GRDP. Secondly, the outflows of GRDP into a small number of regions are apparent. In about 80% of basic local governments, the net outflows of GRDP occur. The large net outflow regions are cities where manufacturing industry has developed and in the 20 lowest net outflow rate regions, 70-80% of GRDP outflows. The large net inflow regions are metropolitan area in Seoul and large local cities. Seocho-gu, Yongsan-gu, and Gangnam-gu in Seoul have a large net inflows and net inflow rates are over 90% of GRDP.

  • The ventilation theory developed by Luyten, Pedlosky and Stommel (1983) is applied to the East Sea to understand the general circulation pattern of the Intermediate Water, especially the ventilated circulation beneath the Tsushima Warm Current. The original model is slightly modified such that it takes the inflow-outflow of the Tsushima Current into consideration. Results of the model indicate that for sufficiently strong Ekman pumping, the Intermediate Water circulates cyclonically by ventilation. The Intermediate Water subducts beneath the Tsushima Warm Water through the western boundary layer. Off the western boundary layer, it turns northward, outcrops to the north by passing the polar front and continues to flow northward until it finally is absorbed by the northern boundary layer. This result seems to be compatible with some recent observations. Over the ventilated area, the transport of the Tsushima Current is negligible and most transport occurs in the shadow area where the Intermediate layer is motionless indicating that, over the deep motionless layer, the two-layered vertical structure under consideration becomes substantially single-layered.

  • The inflow and outflow loads of T-N and T-P from a paddy field area during the irrigation period were investigated. For the concentration of T-N and T-P, surface water in paddies showed highest among irrigation water, drainage water and percolation water. For T-N, the average concentration of drainage water is higher than that of irrigation water before middle of June but is lower since. It is shown that the L(load)-Q (discharge) equation of T-N has high correlation for irrigation water, but the L-Q equation of T-P has high correlation for drainage water.

  • Using hydrometric data from an upland river in North Wales, a relationship between rate of river flow and water stored within the catchment area (catchment storage) is assumed to exist, and is evaluated from an analysis of winter recession curves. This storage/river flow relationship, when combined with water balance equations, produces a set of equations which may be used for "routing" input of rainfall through a storage with defined outflow characteristics, providing a straightforward method of flood prediction and analysis from rainfall data. Recorded and predicted flood hydrographs are compared, and the effectiveness and limitations of the method are considered. The development of a complete mathematical model, embodying the storage/river flow relationship, and suitable for generation of continuous run-off records from rainfall and evaporation data, is also considered.
