The objective of this study is to analyze the characteristic of a functional design for a commercial outdoor brand jacket based on 3 types of functions : windproof, waterproof, and cold proof. To analyze the design and fabric characteristics of outdoor jackets by function, 903 men's and women's outdoor jacket images were selected from the catalogues during S/S 2009 - F/W 2011 of the 6 brands: The North Face, Columbia Sports Wear, Kolon Sports, K2, Arcteryx and Mont-Bell. These brands were selected based on their high market share and brand awareness of the outdoor brands in Korea. In this study, design elements analysis was conducted as following 8 elements: hood/collar height/central front flap/waistline/pocket location/ventilation for the body part/sleeve patterns/cuff for the sleeve part. Fabrics were analyzed by the frequency of fabric types used in the 3 jacket types. According to the result derived from the analysis of the six brands of outdoor wear jacket design trends by year, detachable hood and a co-use of velcro and elastic bands have been mainly designed for all of windproof, waterproof, and cold proof jacket to all in order to respond quickly to changes in the external environment. For reinforced storage function on trekking, the number of pockets has been gradually growing, and a function was being developed to connect an electronic device to a pocket. The method, result, and collateral observations relevant to each of these phases are described. Outdoor jacket design characteristics were investigated for outdoor brands, which can provide data to suggest more accurate functional design, and satisfy functional design needs. In this regard, this research was significant in the sense that it suggested preliminary data to reconsider competitiveness of the brand products.
Of high strength bolts, the torque shear type bolt is known to be clamped normally when pin-tails are broken. Sometimes the clamping loads on slip critical connections considerably fluctuate from the required tension due to variation of torque coefficient. This is why the viscosity of lubricant affects the torque coefficient by temperature. In this study, the clamping tests of high strength bolts were performed independently at laboratory conditions and at outdoor environment. The temperatures of outdoor environment candidates were ranged from $-11^{\circ}C$ to $34^{\circ}C$ for six years. The temperature at laboratory condition was composed from $-10^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ at each $10^{\circ}C$ interval. At outdoor environment conditions, the clamping load of high strength bolt was varied from 159 to 210 kN and the torque value was varied from 405 to 556 Nm. The torque coefficients at outdoor environment were calculated from 0.126 to 0.158 when tensions were measured from 179 to 192 kN by using tension meter. The torque coefficients at outdoor environment conditions were analyzed as the range from 0.118 to 0.152. From these tests, the diverse equations of torque coefficient, tension dependent to temperature can be acquired by statistic regressive analysis. The variable of torque coefficient at laboratory conditions is 0.13% per each $1^{\circ}C$ when it reaches 2.73% per each $1^{\circ}C$ at outdoor environment conditions. When the results at laboratory conditions and at outdoor environment were combined to get the revised equations, the change in torque coefficient was modified as 0.2% per each $1^{\circ}C$ and the increment of tension was adjusted as 1.89 % per each $1^{\circ}C$.
Nowadays, the lighting of urban nightscape has become important for improvement in city. Lighting the outdoor is different that lighting an interior. Outdoor lighting designs should be designed to minimize glare, light trespass, light clutter and energy conservation to avoid light pollution. Mokpo city launched into a large scale project of the city beautification using outdoor lighting. However, outcomes of outdoor lighting project have faced strong opposition from environmental groups. This study aims to analyze the light pollution of outdoor lighting in Mokpo-si for creating a health night environment. The Radiant Imaging Prometric-1400 was used to measure the luminance of Yudal Mountain, Goha Island and Luminarie Street. The result showed that the all the outdoor lighting produce light pollution and some places like mountain and island did not need a lot of lighting all the time.
The purpose of this study is to identify current condition of night lighting plan for the outdoor space in an apartment complex and to examine how residents perceive that environment. For this purpose, considerations and standards for safe and agreeable night lighting environment were examined through literature study. And a field study to determine the current state of the night lighting environment was conducted, and finally a survey was executed to find out residents' satisfaction, requirements and consciousness on that lighting environment of apartment complex. Findings of this study can be summarized as follows. Firstly, most standards for night lighting environment focus on the urban environment as a whole, so they have very few clear standards exclusive for the outdoor space of the apartment complex. Secondly, most of outdoor spaces surveyed in this study have met the basic illumination standard, but some spaces had parts where lights were off or out of order forming dark zones, and in some parts lights were screened by trees causing shades, poor safety and a narrowed sight. Thirdly, residents had interest in the night lighting environment of the outdoor space, but they were not fully satisfied with that environment. Fourthly, residents were negative about such factors of the environment as safety, convenience, recognition and aesthetics. These factors should be reflected in planning and improving the night lighting. It is expected that this study provides basic information necessary to plan safer and more agreeable night lighting, and to satisfy the residents' need for liveable apartment complex.
The present research aims to suggest the design of a new direction that copes with the changing environment. For example, the design for outdoor wear can be made through various methods that allows it to be worn for anytime and anywhere. Also, the research aimed to seek a development direction of outdoor wear design with environment-friendly expanded function that handles unpredictable environmental changes. The analysis of this research is as follows. First, it can be said that the trend of the outdoor wear design according to climate and environment changes is a design that seeks an efficient and rational role in functional aspects such as complex multi-functionality and minimum decorations as well as enhancing economic efficiency. Second, the outdoor wear design provides the optimal climate for the human body even in a continuously changing artificial environment. Its easy and comfortable function also helps to keep defense from possible risk elements. Lastly, this research seeks interactions among design, the body and environment. It also tries shape change using buttons and zippers, etc. according to expansion of a structural form of clothes as multi-functionality and versatility tools, and seeks a design form that can be reconstructed. The research that geared toward environmental changes should be further progressed in order to produce apparel that have efficient adaptability of any climate situations.
In this study, we analyzed the state of outdoor-space use and green-environment development for apartment residents, and investigated their ways of thinking on nature orientation and green environment. The results are as follows. 1) The ways of thinking and actual use of outdoor space by apartment residents appear different. 2) Due to the difference of apartment locations and complex environments, the state and reason of green environment construction are different between the residents of high-rise and low-storied apartments. 3) The residents of the low-storied apartments are more satisfied with the green environments of the complex than those of the high-rise apartments. In addition, constructing the green environment in a balcony and outdoor space enhances the satisfaction level of the apartment residents. 4) The residents of the low-storied apartments are passive in nature orientation, while those of the high-rise apartments are active. 5) Depending on the types of nature orientation, the apartment residents are grouped as 'people of nature experience', 'nature appreciators', or 'people of living-thing contact'. These groups show different patterns on the ways of thinking for outdoor space and green environment.
The purpose of this study is to provide the information about improvement method of the detached housing area for children's outdoor activities. This study was accomplished by two research methods; the evaluation of physical environment of two detached housing areas, and the analyzation of satisfaction & consciousness of 190 residents. Outdoor spaces of detached housing area were divided into 6 areas (play space, education facility, commercial facility, green space, street space, and empty space & parking lot). And then, 6 outdoor spaces were evaluated about the physical characters such as accessibility, network, safety, variety, functional, natural elements. Also, the survey for resident's satisfaction and consciousness was used the Likert scale. According to the result of this study, many parts of the detached housing area were not good for children's outdoor activities, and the resident's satisfaction was low. In the sample detached housing areas, negative factors were car and motorcycle. And many residents pointed out the lack of natural elements, variety, and safety of outdoor space in dwelling area. Finally, this study suggested the several constitution method for the children's activities based on the results of evaluation and survey.

Purpose: Since hospitals have a big impact on the natural and social environment, hospitals' sustainability must be considered in various aspects including environmental, social, and economical aspects. So far, research on sustainable hospitals has mainly been conducted on indoor environment, but outdoor space of hospital is as important as well. The purpose of this research is to study the sustainability of hospital outdoor space and to make proposals for improving sustainable regional public hospitals. Methods: Through preceding research analysis and literature review, the concept of sustainable outdoor space of hospital was defined. Also, the evaluation contents of outdoor space were extracted from domestic and foreign green building certification criteria. With this analytic frame, we visited 4 regional public hospitals in Korea, interviewed the facility managers, and analyzed sustainability of hospital outdoor space. Results: Analysis of 4 regional public hospitals reveals that there is a lack of consideration for sustainability in all 4 categories; urban and network, natural environment, community, and user. In terms of community, sustainability has rarely been applied to all four hospitals. The site selection and terrain of the site were essential to sustainability. Implications: Establishing a master plan considering future expansion is critical. Also more attempt to show regional characteristics is needed. It is necessary to design a comprehensive outdoor space that considers sustainability and also healing environment. Level difference in the site can be used as a design element.
The purpose of this study is to overcome the realistic pressure and the limit of school environmental education and to develop an environmental education program that can provide students, who live in an urban area, have difficulty in contacting with nature, with an opportunity to experience the nature in the school outdoor environment, which is their daily living space and is a ground of environmental education. First, I developed an analytical tool which can be used to determine the degree how the environmental education is related to the school outdoor environment with 8 categories(spaces). And I analyzed the 2007-79 curriculum of lower grade(1 and 2 grades) of the elementary school provided by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development by using the analytical tool and found out that this curriculum was suitable for the environmental education utilizing the school outdoor environment. According to this curriculum analysis, the studying subjects which could be suitable for the environmental education utilizing the school outdoor environment were extracted, and based on these subjects, an environmental education program was developed. The environmental education 'in' environment program were composed with 5 modules and 18 activity subjects suitable for students advancement phase, and these activities can be implemented with experiencing, understanding and expressing by using 5 senses. I also proposed a plan that can be used to apply this program continuously to the lower grades(1 and 2 grades) original experience activity class.
In order to provide basic data for designing the outdoor exercise environment to promote the health of the citizens, this study has analyzed the status of citizens' use of outdoor exercise places that have been supplied extensively recently and the factors affecting the citizens' choice of the places. A survey was made on 20 spots in 12 places where outdoor exercise equipment is installed to identify the characteristics of use and the factors affecting the selection of the spots and for the 1,733 survey sheets collected finally SPSS program was used to analyze the multiple answers. Major results of this research are as follows: First, since light exercise equipment mostly for bodily exercises has been installed, it has brought practical effects for the physically weak people, aged people and the people who scarcely exercise, while decreasing the users' economic burdens. Second, the scales of important factors the users think in selecting their exercise spots were 'spaciousness (2,028 times)' > 'accessibility (1,751 times)' > 'fitness (1,583' > 'supportability (1,445)' > 'community centeredness (1,260).' Third, the ratios of important factors regarding the choice of environment of outdoor exercise were 'near to walk (16.1%)' > 'nice natural environment (12.3%)' > 'always free to exercise (9.7%)' > 'shortage of exercise equipment (7.4%)' > 'possible to accompany family/neighbors (6.7%)' > 'no economic burden (6.5%).
