The author analyses the challenging activities of Japanese libraries in this decade by launching two keywords; "product-sharing" and "outcome generation." "Product-sharing" means that libraries share knowledge, skills, and records which are produced as the result of the services or in the process of activities. And "outcome generation" means that libraries generate any efficiency or effectiveness through their services to users. Using these concepts, reported are the current situation and aspects of Japanese libraries which try to make various contributions to the society; research and learning of the people, and education and training for professional librarians, and so on. In the analysis, the author shows some examples of "product-sharing" at first, including the records of reference transaction and the multi-functioned online public access catalogue. Especially, focused is on the various possibility and adoptability of the Collaborative Reference Database System of the National Diet Library of Japan. This system is one of digital reference service in Japan, and the database of reference transaction records is expected to be useful for research and academic studyies as knowledge-base of professional librarians. And the system is also expected to be a platform for LIS education and professional development in the e-learning environment. Secondly, as the examples of "outcome generation", explained are the problem-solving-type activities, and provision of the collection about books on struggling against disease and illness. A few examples of outcome in the problem-solving-type activities are these; increase of sales in the services for shop managers, business persons, and entrepreneurs, contribution to affluent daily life by providing the local information services to residents and neighbourhoods, and etc. And for both the patients with serious cases and their family or those who nurse them, books about other persons' notes or memorandum are the greatest support, and sometime healing. The author discuss the 'raison d'etre' of these activities focusing on public libraries in Japan.
Background: Single pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) is commonly used as a salvage treatment in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer and primary peritoneal adenocarcinoma (PPA) with a satisfactory outcome. However, the data for second generation PLD administered in this setting are still limited. We conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the outcome of patients who received single-agent second generation PLD (LIPO-DOX) after the development of clinical platinum resistance. The study period was between March 2008 and March 2013. LIPO-DOX was administered intravenously 40 $mg/m^2$ every 28 days until disease progression, but for not more than six cycles. The response rate was evaluated using the Gynecologic Cancer Intergroup (GCIG) criteria while the toxicity was evaluated according to WHO criteria. Twenty-nine patients met the inclusion criteria in the study period with an overall response rate of 13.8%. The median progression free survival and overall survival were three and eleven months, respectively. With the total of 96 cycles of chemotherapy, the patients developed grades 3 and 4 hematologic toxicity as follows: anemia, 0%, leukopenia, 9.6%, neutropenia, 32.3% and thrombocytopenia, 0%. In conclusion, the single agent second generation PLD demonstrated modest efficacy in patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer and PPA without serious toxicity.
Purpose Since human brains catch images faster than texts or numbers, infographics has been widely used in business in the form of "information dashboard" to enhance the efficiency of decision-making. Groupware, however, has neglected the adoption and use of infographics, in particular, in the idea generation process. Given that an overall performance of groupware-based idea generation is no better than that of the (paper-and-pencil-based) Nominal Group Technique, Jung et al. (2010) adopted the notion of infographics in the form of performance feedback to solve the productivity paradox. With the consistent results, which demonstrate beneficial effects of infographics on performance enhancement, an interesting observation that groups with the bar chart treatment performed better than groups with the dot chart treatment was made. The main purpose of this study was to find if there were a performance consistency between the outcomes from the previous study and the outcomes from the current study. Design/methodology/approach In experiment 1, we employed the same system used in the previous study (i.e., Jung et al., 2010). As individuals' contributions accumulated, the mechanism visually displayed individuals' performances two-dimensionally in the form of a bar chart or a dot chart. Then, we compared the performance outcomes from this study to the outcomes from previous study (i.e., Jung et al., 2010). In experiment 2, we modified the performance graph to test the effect of "playfulness" on performance by converting dots to car images. Then, we compared the performance outcome from experiment 2 to the outcomes from experiment 1. Findings Just like our interesting (and unexpected) finding in Jung et al.'s study (2010), the outcome confirmed a consistent superior performance of a bar chart. This implies that a bar chart is a better choice when stimulating performance with a visual aid in the context of groupware-based idea generation. Although a bar chart was criticized in a way that errors of length-area judgments are 40 ~ 250% greater than those of positional judgments along a common scale, such illusion turned out to be facilitating upward performance comparison better. Regarding Experiment 2, the outcome showed that the revised-dot graph is as good as the bar graph in terms of quantity and quality score of ideas. We attribute the performance enhancement of the resized-dot to the interaction between the motivational characteristic and the situational characteristic of playfulness because individuals in the revised-dot graph treatment performed better than individuals in the dot graph treatment. Given the order of performance (Bar >= Revised Dot > Dot) that the revised-dot treatment performed the same as (or lower than) the bar treatment, an additional research is warranted to reach to a consistent outcome.
Differ from elder generation, active senior possesses the active characteristics of young people. In this research, the active senior users' UX problem was analyzed by Sundar's 'Interface Assessment'. According to Interface Assessment, the user's subjective user experience in GUI interactive can be divided into five elements, which are 'Visible', 'Desired Outcome', 'Immediate Feedback', 'Intuitiveness', 'Perceived Ease of Use'. Based on these five elements, user's behavior and perception experience during interface using were analyzed to classify UX problems. Next, Correlation Analysis was conducted to find out the relationship between the elements of Interface Assessment and user's subjective experience using PSSUQ as comparing data, and SPSS 22 version as statistic software. The result of this research was presented below: First, active senior user's biggest UX problem can be classified with 'Desired Outcome' in App using. Second, the correlation between the two elements, 'Desired Outcome', 'Perceived Ease of Use', and the PSSUQ result was statistically significant, but the correlation between the other three elements, 'Visible', 'Immediate Feedback', 'Intuitiveness', and the PSSUQ result were not statistically significant. According to the result, active senior users do have different characteristics compared with elder generation. The UX problems classified with 'Desired Outcome' and 'Perceived ease of use' apparently affect user's subjective experience, while the problems classified with 'Visible', 'Immediate feedback', 'Intuitiveness' show no evidence in affecting user's subjective experience. This phenomenon could be explained by the cumulative effects of PC or smartphone use. Through the analysis of multiple UX elements in this paper, better App interface could be developed according to active senior's needs.
Purpose Through the provision of real time performance information about who is contributing and who is not in Electronic Brainstorming, prior studies evidenced a significant performance gain. However, it has been observed that the quantity-based performance feedback alone does not have enough restrictiveness to guide the performance behavior throughout the idea generation session. We included the notion of goal setting into the process performance feedback mechanism in an effort to regulate performance behavior and to better understand why individuals in Electronic Brainstorming are not obtaining enough stimulation benefits in the group interaction process. Design/methodology/approach We had developed real-time visual process performance feedback and modified to include goal setting. This mechanism visually displays individuals' performances two-dimensionally (quality for each idea vertically and quantity of ideas horizontally along with their goals). As individuals' contributions accumulate, the mechanism reveals performance histories by connecting the sequence of ideas in a time-series format, telling stories of individuals' performances. Then, we compared the performance outcome from this study with the outcomes from two prior studies (i.e., Jung et al., 2010 and Jung, 2014). Findings The results showed that the inclusion of goal setting into the process performance feedback solved the issue in the previous study. That was the lower than expected magnitude of performance enhancement of process performance feedback when compared to that of quantity-based feedback. It appears that goals as a motivational technique provide standards for systematic self-evaluation, serving as a cue to regulate performance behavior by strengthening the linkage between effort and performance. Thus, goals seem to set up a self-fulfilling prophecy, preconditioning better performance. However, the outcome still showed that its performance magnitude is unsatisfactory because the outcome of this study turned out to be close to the outcome of just quantity-based performance feedback in Jung et al.'s (2010) study.

The purpose of this study is to build promotive measures and to develop alternative policies of DG(Distributed Generation) by finding and analysing effects of four business environment factors related to DEPB(District Electricity Power Business) on boosting DG. In this study, four business environment factors, which are the electric power industry restructuring, electricity tariff and pricing structure, regulations for DEPB, and conflicts of stake-holding groups, are considered as independent variables. And promotion factors of DG including small CHP(Combined Heat and Power) generation, which is outcome of DEPB, are considered as dependent variables. But dependent variables including booming of new renewable energy generation due to green energy pricing incentives, the electric power industry restructuring, and electricity tariff and pricing policies were separatively considered. In this study, some policies were proposed reflecting research results of empirical demonstrative analysis, previous studies, overseas cases, etc.

A novel simulation scheme of transient phenomenon for the photovoltaic (PV) generation system under the real weather conditions has been proposed in this paper. A grid connected PV array is simulated using PSCAD/EMTDC. The transient changes of the output current of PV array under the real weather conditions is described and the output current of DC/AC converter flowing through the utility power network is also analyzed with the PWM switching width. Moreover, the MPPT control of PV generation system is combined to the system during the simulation for the comparison purposes of the control schemes. The outcome of the simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed simulation scheme. The result shows that the cost effective verifying for the efficiency or availability and stability of PV generation systems and the comparison research of various control schemes like MPPT under the same real whether conditions are eventually possible.
Electronic brainstorming (EBS) to improve the process and outcomes of group decision making is an artifact of Information Systems legacy. Despite three decades of research with EBS in an effort to become a key resource of organizational performance, its performance when compared to that of nominal is inconclusive because of the recent debate over its usefulness in terms of productivity. Subsequent researchers have directed our attention to the re-examination of cognitive stimulation, which is considered the major benefit in computer-based idea generation, to explain the performance singularity in computer-based groups. While both cognitive and motivational factors that moderate and mediate the group-interaction process remain unexplored, individual differences that are tightly linked to creative behavior have been largely ignored to account for the discrepancy in performance. Since simulations have been widely used in situations where an outcome does not meet the assumptions, the notion of a group simulator and detailed simulation mechanisms are introduced to examine the potential effects of individual differences on the performance of computer-based idea generation groups. In addition, two prior studies that empirically explored cognitive mechanisms with the group simulator are showcased along with six propositions to initiate future research.

Patent management activities are considered to play a key role for technology-based firms under the recent knowledge-based economies. This is because intellectual property, including patents, can act as a system for continuous profit generation by protecting firms' products, processes and services. In Korea, healthcare industry is now regarded as one of the promising next generation industries. Despite the promise of healthcare industry, Korean healthcare product manufacturers are faced with turbulent business changes, such as market opening. Even though there are various industrial studies on the effect of patent management activities on firm outcome, previous studies have hardly paid attention to Korean healthcare product manufacturing firms. For this reason, this study identifies the effect of patent management activities, such as patenting activeness, technical excellence and cooperation degree, on firm outcomes, including financial profitability and firm growth, with respect to the Korean healthcare product manufacturers. In this study, we located 86 Korean healthcare manufacturing firms from KORCHAMBIZ and DART, and then collected the data of their patenting activities and outcomes between 2001 and 2013. By applying factor analysis and regression analysis, our empirical study found that firms' patenting activeness has the significant positive relationship on firms' financial profitability, and firms' patenting activeness and technical excellence have the significant positive relationship on firms' financial growth. Our study is an initial attempt to identify the effect of patent management activities on firm outcome within Korean healthcare product manufacturing industry, and thus its results can be used as the basis to formulate national policies for Korean healthcare product industry.
