Step-wised Out-test Mechanism for Underwater Acoustic Networks (수중 음파 통신 네트워크를 위한 Step-wised Out-test 메커니즘)

  • Despite a series of various developments in underwater acoustic sensor networks, there are still occasions of loss of connection over the network. Because sufficient amounts of drawbacks causing disconnections posed particularly in the middle of connection over the network emerge in the ocean environment, there is a need of new testing mechanism for underwater acoustic networks. In this paper, we proposed to investigate the most vital parts of the network deployment whether they function well in order, without any failure so as to identify where exactly communication process problems and failures are. We introduce step-wised out-test mechanism for UWASNS and accomplished the mechanism by implementing experiments and rigorously checked all the underwater devices utilizing out-test function. Experimental results and out-test function are evinced by implementing, in order to explain our system and conclude with possible future improvements.

A Comparison of the Failure Mechanism for High Power Converted White LEDs(3W) (고 출력 백색 변환용 LED(3W용)의 고장메커니즘 비교)

  • This paper presents a comparison of the failure mechanism for high power converted white LEDs(3W) with the commercially available YAG:Ce and silicate phosphor. We carry out the normal aging life test for 10,000 hours, the high temperature aging test for 8,000 hours, the high temperature and humidity aging test for 8,000 hours and the current aging testing for 5,000 hours. The optical and electrical parameters of LEDs were monitored, such as lumen, correlated color temperature (CCT), chromaticity coordinates(x, y), thermal resistance, I -V curve and spectrum intensity. The stress induced a luminous flux decay on LED in all experiments and causes a failure. So we try to find out what's a main failure mechanism for a high power LED.

Planar Motion Mechanism Test of the Mobile Harbor Running in Design Speed in Circulating Water Channel

  • Mobile Harbor (MH) is a new transportation platform that can load and unload containers onto and from very large container ships at sea. It could navigate near harbors where several vessels run, or it could navigate through very narrow channels. In the conceptual design phase when the candidate design changes frequently according to the various performance requirements, it is very expensive and time-consuming to carry out model tests using a large model in a large towing tank and a free-running model test in a large maneuvering basin. In this paper, a new Planar Motion Mechanism(PMM) test in a Circulating Water Channel (CWC) was conducted in order to determine the hydrodynamic coefficients of the MH. To do this, PMM devices including three-component load cells and inertia tare device were designed and manufactured, and various tests of the MH such as static drift test, pure sway test, pure yaw test, and drift-and-yaw combined test were carried out. Using those coefficients, course-keeping stability was analyzed. In addition, the PMM tests results carried out for the same KCS (KRISO container ship) were compared with our results in order to confirm the test validity.

  • A Land slide in Granitic Gneiss weathered soil was stabilized successfully with soil nailing using 929mm steel bar. To understand the behavior of load transfer between soil and nail, in-situ pdl-out tests were carried out. The strains of steel bars were measured using strain gauges during pull-out tests. Forces-strain data from laboratory tension tests on steel bar and grouted steel bar were examined to compare with those of the pull-out tests. Comparisons were made between the pull-out test results and laboratory test result to understand load transfer mechanism.

  • Test Interface Controller (TIC) provided by ARM Ltd. is widely used for functional testing of System-on-Chip (SoC) adopting Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA) bus system. Accordingly, this architecture has a deficiency of not being able to concurrently shifting in and out the structural scan test patterns through the TIC and AMBA bus. This paper introduces a new AMBA based Test Access Mechanism (ATAM) for speedy testing of SoCs embedding ARM cores. While preserving the compatability with the ARM TIC, since scan in and out operations can be performed simultaneously, test application time through the expensive Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) can be drastically reduced.

  • For the prediction of concrete-steel bond ability in reinforced concrete, many countries establish specifications for the pullout test. But these methods hardly to consider many parameters such as strength, shape, diameter and location of steel, concrete restrict condition by loading plate, strength of concrete and cover depth etc, and it is difficult to solve concentration and disturbance of stress. The purpose of this study is to propose a New Ring Test method which can be rational quantity evaluations of bond splitting mechanism. For this purpose, pullout test was carried out to assess the effect of several variables on bond splitting properties between reinforcing bar and concrete. Key variables are concrete compressive strength, concrete cover, bar diameter and rib spacing. Failure mode was examined and maximum bond stress-slip relationships were presented to show the effect of above variables. As the result, it appropriately expressed general characteristics of bond splitting mechanism, and it proved capability for standard test method.

A Study on Development of Torch Rotating Mechanism for Automation of Welding of Corrugated Membranes (주름판 용접 자동화를 위한 토치 회전기구의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • In order to develop an automatic system for welding thin steel plates with curvature such as the corrugated membranes of an LNG storage tank, a rotating mechanism should be firstly designed for the torch to easily follow the weld seam with a constant distance and angle. In this study, a torch rotating mechanism consisting of three circular links, two square-type links and a torch link was proposed for automation of the welding process. A weld-seam tracking system with two axis slides and the proposed rotating mechanism was successfully simulated with a dynamic simulation software. A prototype tracking system was manufactured and a tracking test with the system was then carried out. The test results with tracking system showed that the rotating mechanism could be implemented and it was feasible to be used in automatic tracking of weld seam with curvature.

  • In this paper, it has been proposed an automatic vegetable bundling mechanism that makes use of heat melt sticking. The proposed mechanism is consisted of three modules for the rationality of manufacture. Design specification has been determined by the bundling mechanism that was optimized mechanically. And, it has been manufactured the prototype of the automatic bundling machine. It has been carried out directly the field test for verification of performance in farmhouse which produces vegetable. In field test, this bundling machine showed efficiency of about 3.6 times than the manual working by manpower, and other performance it got satisfied result. This automatic vegetable-bundling machine was already registered as the agricultural machine. and This machine will be commercialized soon.

  • A novel loading mechanism of wedge roller type has been developed. This type traction drive has long system life and high efficiency by changing the pre-load on a contact point. And this loading mechanism does not need precision machining. So it has, as opposed to the conventional loading mechanism, an advantage in saving manufacturing cost. In this paper, by analyzing pre-load generating mechanism, spring pre-load and the roller size are defined and the stress on the contact point by pre-load is calculated. On the basis of this analysis, the model of wedge roller type traction drive for the test is made and was carried out its performance test. It can transmit input torque up to 1.5 N m, with high efficiency over 91% up to 98%, with slip rate under 2.5%.

A Study on Friction and Wear Characteristics of Sintered W/C-35%Ni Tappets for Diesel Engine Application (디젤엔진용 소결(W/C35%Ni) 태핏의 마멸거동에 관한 연구)

  • Abstract- In this paper tribological characteristics of solid and liquid phase sintered W/C-35%Ni tappets were investigated. Three test methods were performed to investigate the wear and surface damage mechanism of sintered tappets. First, block-on-ring wear test was performed to investigate the wear characteristics under pure sliding condition. Second, simplified cam and tappet tests (called component wear test hereafter) were carried out to simulate the real contact history of cam and tappet. Also, after the test, contact surfaces were analyzed with scanning electron microscope to study the wear mechanism. As a final screening, engine dynamo tests were performed. Results showed that in the block on ring sliding wear test, solid phase sintered specimens showed superior wear resistance to liquid phase sintered specimens. The component wear tests and engine dynamo tests also showed the same results. Therefore, in these tests, solid phase sintered tappet material revealed superior wear resistant properties to liquid phase sintered one.
