  • In this paper, we are concerned with the problem of testing the randomness of the coefficients in a first order autoregressive model. A consistent test based on prediction error is suggested. It is shown that under the null hypothesis, the test statistic is asymptotically normal.

  • In this paper, we introduce a Mann-like three step iteration method and show that it can be used to approximate the fixed point of a weak contraction mapping. Furthermore, we prove that this scheme is equivalent to the Mann iterative scheme. A comparison is made with the other third order iterative methods. Results are presented in a table to support our conclusion.

  • In order for handicapped people to maintain better humane life, it is necessary to get statistics of them in developing appropriate national policy. However, it is very difficult to obtain baseline statistics on regular or occasional basis. It's reason is mainly attributed to attitudes of their family's tendency to conceal any existence of such memeber in the household. As a result, the statis-tics on the handicapped population is very inaccurate and under satisfaction. We must produce such statistics periodically in time and with accuracy. Thus, this study porposes five methods which, we believe, can produce reliable statistics of thehandcapped population : 1) vitalization through enforcement of handicapped information into the registration system, 2) inclusion in population census of items related to handicapped information, 3) improvement of the physically handicapped population survey scheme, 4) utilization of hospital patients' records for development of the statistics, and 5) an estimation through the labor force survey.

  • Using computer simulated irregular waves, variations of ocean wave statistics according to sea state are analyzed, and the reasonable conditions that transform the energy spectrum to individual wave statistics are discussed. Ocean wave statistics varying with sea state are found to respond linearly to the spectral peakedness parameter $Q_p$ and spectrum moments $m_n$ (n = 0, 1, 2${\cdots}{\cdots}\;\infty$ ). It is clarified that the 2nd-order spectrum moment is a reasonable parameter which represents the wave statistics including wave periods, and that the spectrum analysis should be carried out under the conditions of minimum data length of 10 times of peak period $T_p$ with time lag of $7T_p$ to satisfy the stable condition of wave statistics.

  • In this article, some projection methods (or fractional-step methods) are proposed and analyzed for the micropolar Navier-Stokes equations (MNSE). These methods allow us to decouple the MNSE system into two sub-problems at each timestep, one is the linear and angular velocities system, the other is the pressure system. Both first-order and second-order projection methods are considered. For the classical first-order projection scheme, the stability and error estimates for the linear and angular velocities and the pressure are established rigorously. In addition, a modified first-order projection scheme which leads to some improved error estimates is also proposed and analyzed. We also present the second-order projection method which is unconditionally stable. Ample numerical experiments are performed to confirm the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the efficiency of the methods.

  • The performance of speech recognition system is degraded by the mismatch between training and test environments. Many studies have been presented to compensate for noise components in the cepstral domain. Recently, higher order cepstral moment normalization method has been introduced to improve recognition accuracy. In this paper, we present real-time high order moment normalization method with post-processing smoothing filter to reduce the parameter estimation error in higher order moment computation. In experiments using Aurora2 database, we obtained error rate reduction of 44.7% with proposed algorithm in comparison with baseline system.

  • In this paper, by using the difference analogue of Nevanlinna's theory, the authors study the shared-value problem concerning two higher order difference operators of a transcendental entire function with finite order. The following conclusion is proved: Let f(z) be a finite order transcendental entire function such that λ(f - a(z)) < ρ(f), where a(z)(∈ S(f)) is an entire function and satisfies ρ(a(z)) < 1, and let 𝜂(∈ ℂ) be a constant such that ∆𝜂n+1 f(z) ≢ 0. If ∆𝜂n+1 f(z) and ∆𝜂n f(z) share ∆𝜂n a(z) CM, where ∆𝜂n a(z) ∈ S ∆𝜂n+1 f(z), then f(z) has a specific expression f(z) = a(z) + BeAz, where A and B are two non-zero constants and a(z) reduces to a constant.

  • Progressive censoring schemes have become quite popular in reliability study. Under progressive censored data, however, some units can be failed between two points of observation with exact times of failure of these units unobserved. For example, loss may arise in life-testing experiments when the failure times of some units were not observed due to mechanical or experimental difficulties. Therefore, multiply progressive censoring scheme was introduced. So, we derives a maximum likelihood estimator of the parameter of exponential distribution. And we introduced the goodness-of-fit test statistics using order statistic and Lorenz curve. We carried out Monte Carlo simulation to compare the proposed test statistics. In addition, real data set have been analysed. In Weibull and chi-squared distributions, the test statistics using Lorenz curve are more powerful than test statistics using order statistics.

  • Dynamic problems arising from the Euler-Bernoulli beam model with inhomogeneous elastic properties are considered. The method of Green's function and perturbation theory are employed to find the deflection in the beam correct to the first-order. Eigenvalue problems appearing from transverse vibrations of inhomogeneous beams in linear and nonlinear cases are also discussed.
