Purpose: This study is to measure oral health literacy levels and to identify oral health literacy related factors in elders. Methods: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design using convenience samples. Data collection was done by using a self-report questionnaire with 321 elders from three welfare centers for the aged and two senior centers located in three cities. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$, Pearson's Correlation Analysis and hierarchical multiple regression with the SPSS Win 18.0 Program. Results: The oral health literacy scores of male elders were higher than those of female elders (t=9.73, p=.002). In hierarchical multiple regression analysis, education levels, smoking and oral health statuses were significant predictors and accounted for 29.8% of the male elders' oral health literacy. For female elders, education levels, health statuses and oral health statuses were significant predictors and accounted for 47.7%. Conclusion: These results suggest that interventions for improving oral health literacy are necessary to enhance elders' ability of self-care management. Also, these results could be used in developing oral health literacy programs.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify factors related to unmet dental care needs among Korean youth, enhance the utilization of dental services by adolescents, furnish basic data for youth-oriented dental projects, and improve access to medical care. Methods: The analysis utilized combined data from the basic and oral databases from the 6th (2013-2015), 7th (2016-2018), and 1st year of the 8th (2019) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Results: The factors influencing unmet dental care needs were gender, age, household income level, and health insurance. Statistically significant results were observed in relation to the type of dental clinic, recent visits to a dental hospital, experiences of toothache within the past year, subjective oral health status, occurrences of permanent dental caries, and engagement in orthodontic treatment. Conclusions: When formulating future national policies and projects, it is imperative to consider the factors and underlying reasons for the unmet dental care needs of adolescents. It is also necessary to establish oral health policies and institutional measures tailored to the dental care of adolescents.

Methods: Participants of this study were 171 middle-aged women living in Seogwipo City, Jeju Special Self - Governing Province. Data were collected through the convenience sampling method. Body mass index and waist circumference of each participant were measured, and a self-report questionnaire was applied. Results: The overall health status of obesity comprised depression, stress, diabetes, and menopause. The oral health conditions affecting obesity were bad breath and chewing. Hypertension was the main factor affecting body mass index and depression was the main factor influencing waist circumference. Obesity was more influenced by overall health status factors than by oral health status factors. Conclusions: The results of this study are expected to be useful as basic data for efficient health care services in the prevention of obesity.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the influencing factors on oral health related self-efficacy and social support in high school students. Methods: The subjects were 750 high school students in Jeonbuk by convenience sampling. A self-reported questionnaire was completed from April 3 to June 4, 2013. Except incomplete answers, 589 data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program for t-test, ANOVA, post hoc Scheffe test, and multiple regression analysis. The questionnaire consisted 6 questions of general characteristics of the subjects, 8 questions of oral health related self-efficacy, and 8 questions of oral health related social support. The instrument for self-efficacy was developed by Sherer and Maddux and measured by Likert 4 scale. Interpersonal Support Evaluation List(ISEL) was developed by Cohen and Hoberman and revised by Suh as oral health related social support in high school students, and measured by Liker 4 scale. Cronbach's alpha in self-efficacy was 0.768 and that in social support was 0.772. Results: The good oral health behavior in the high school students was closely related ro self-efficacy and social support. Higher self-efficacy and social support could make the students practice good oral behavior. Conclusions: Higher self-efficacy and social support can influence on the good oral health behavior in high school students. So it is very important to provide the continuous oral health education that can enhance self-efficacy and health promotion.

The Purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors of oral health state and oral health-related quality of life in the elderly with hypertension. Data was collected from 108 elderly with hypertension registered at public health centers in K city, from January-February, 2020. The collected data was analyzed by using chi-square test, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, stepwise regression of the SPSS 22.0 program. The positive factors influencing the oral health-related quality of life are subjective health status(β=.351, p=.002), BMI(β=.271, p=.024), age(β=-.260, p=.028) and it was explained to 46.0% of the variance. In other words, the higher subjective health status, the higher body mass index, the younger age make the higher oral health-related quality of life. Based on these results, education on the importance of maintaining oral health is necessary to improve the quality of life related to oral health in the elderly with hypertension.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the factor-related oral care self-efficacy among the type 2 diabetic patients. Methods : Questionnaire was conducted with 174 Type 2 diabetic patients from 9th January to 9th March in 2012. The following conclusion was obtained as a result of carrying out t-test and one-way ANOVA analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. Results : 1. Analysis of the level of each item concerning oral care self-efficacy showed tooth brushing self-efficacy was $13.3{\pm}2.9$, the highest of all. 2. The factor that was most highly related with oral care self-efficacy was oral health behaviors(${\beta}=0.474$). The other factors were found to be expected duration of diabetes(${\beta}=-0.205$), self-assessed physical health(${\beta}=0.177$) and oral health(${\beta}=0.111$) in such order (p<0.05). Conclusions : Diabetes causes a variety of complications in the mouth, and therefore it is very important to practice oral care activity in order to oral health promotion. This study showed oral care self-efficacy appeared to be the greatest factor of relevance in practicing oral care activity. So, dental hygienist is obliged to keep on motivating so that the patient may maintain the oral care activity for him/herself. Also, a study on various intervention methods to improve oral care self-efficacy should be continued.

The goals of this study were to investigate depression and oral health-related quality of life in the military and public and to identify the factors affecting depression. The respondents were 278 soldiers and 228 general people of similar ages. An independent t-test was used to examine the differences between the two groups in the oral health impact profile and Self-rating Depression Scale. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the factors associated with depression in soldiers and the public. The depression level was significantly higher in the general population than in the military personnel (p<0.001). In contrast, the oral health-related quality of life was better in the general population than in the military, but without a statistical significance (p=0.056). Among soldiers, the military rank was the only factor associated with depression, showing a gradient based on the rank. In the general population, the type of work displayed significant associations with depression. As there are some limitations to investigating the factors affecting depression, comparative analyses of the general population groups with similar soldier groups are rare. This study encourages future investigations of the advancements in mental health and improvement programs for oral health in each group.
The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the oral health practice between dental hygiene students and Non-Dental Hygiene students in an effort to shed light on the importance of oral health education and its implications for personnels responsible for oral health practice. Their oral health awareness was investigated, and what factors might affect their actual oral health practice was observed. An then a comparative analysis was conducted. Followings are the main results of this study. First, when the characteristics of the self-rated oral health of the college students were analyzed, the dental hygiene students were ahead of the other students who didn't major in dental hygiene in every factor including oral health concern(p<0.001), awareness of oral health importance(p<0.01) and self-perceived oral health status(p<0.01). Second, the dental hygiene students significantly excelled the other students in both the level of oral health awareness(p<0.001) and the level of oral health practice(p<0.001). The findings of the study showed that more oral health education experiences led to better oral health awareness and better oral health practice, and that better oral health awareness led to better oral health practice.
