This study was wanted to confirm ability for UV blocking according to its material. The lenses materials were Acryl, CR-39, NK-55, and MR-8. It was grouped: Group A consisting of anti-scratch hard coated lenses and anti-refractive multi coated lenses, Group B added UV blocking coating on the group A, and Group C consisting of only UV blocking lenses. The results measured UV transmittance, On the UV-A wavelength, Group A showed the UV transmittance of 7.726%, 0.043%, 0.007%, and 0.007% respectively. Group B showed 0.038%, 0.037%, 0.007%, and 0.007%, respectively. The UV-blocking performance of CR-39 has been greatly improved. Group C has shown the best UV blocking function; only 0.005% and 0.004% of UV transmittances.(1.60 and 1.67 index of refraction respectively). For the low power of lenses and sunglasses, the CR-39 lens is the most used. Therefore, to UV blocking from the lens, new materials or UV absorbers or UV coating technology and development of Converged Technologies are required.
The purpose of this study is to compare the status of eyesight according to the change of astigmatism axis in myopic astigmatism and to minimize errors in making astigmatic glasses based on accurate optometry and prescription. The subjects were 93 males and females(186 eyes) who have myopic astigmatism without any ocular disease or systemic disease. We performed comparative analysis on the status of visual acuity according to the change of astigmatism axis to 5, 10 and 15 degree in corrected eyesight 1.0. The direct astigmatism was the most common astigmatism type among the 186 eyes. After all subjects were perfectly corrected into 1.0, the change of astigmatism axis affected eyesight; The results suggested that the more change was made in astigmatism axis, the worse their eyesight would become. The main astigmatism type was changed from direct astigmatism to inverse astigmatism as age increased. The change of the astigmatism axis resulted in failing of corrected eyesight. Therefore, the convergence of examination and correction for astigmatism strength and axis is necessary when conducting refraction inspection for astigmatism.
The purpose of this study is to give practical information about eyesight care-preventing refractive error and actual conditions of wearing glasses(or contact lenses) to help school health education, For this study, 1,216 freshmen were sampled from liberal and vocational high schools in Seoul and the survey was successfully accomplished. Following are the major findings results of this study: 1. The percentage of the freshmen wearing glasses in girls high school were 57.5 percent in liberal high school and 41.7 percent in vocational high school. 2. The percentage of both the students and parents wearing glasses were 49.9 percent in liberal high school and 33.8 percent in vocational high school. 3. From the survey, the majority of the students began to wear glasses during their middle school years. The percentages were 46.6 percent in liberal high school and 62.1 percent in vocational high school. 4. The percentage of the students who got their glasses prescribed from an ophthalmic clinic were 60.6 percent in liberal high school, 31.5 percent in vocational high school and the rest got their glasses from the optician.. 5. The percentage of the students wearing glasses who didn't have optometry check-up for 6 months were 57.2 percent in liberal high school and 38.4 percent in vocational high school. The percentage of the students not wearing glasses in the same situation were 61.9 percent in liberal high school and 41.5 percent in vocational high school. 6. The percentage of the students who believe that the health education in school is necessary for the prevention of amblyopia were 79.2 percent of strdents attending in liberal high school, 82.9 percent in vocational high school, 81.5 percent of students wearing glasses and 80.8 percent of students not wearing glasses.
Lipophilic ammonia is toxic gas and can easily diffuse across cell membranes. Excess ammonia is implicated in the pathogenesis of several metabolic disorders including hepatic encephalopathy and may result in the death. The purpose of this study was to clarify the inhibition effect of metronidazole on liver cell damage due to ammonia in human Hep G2 cell and rat hepatocytes. The effects of metronidazole were studied in ammonium chloride treated human Hep G2 cell (75 mM) and rat hepatocyte (100 mM) following $0.1{\mu}M$ metronidazole treatment. In MTZ+AC group, cell viabilities increased prominently and LDH activities decreased over 25% than AC group. Furthermore, ammonia level according to ammonium chloride treatment reduced over 30% and lipid peroxidation as an index of cell membrane damage decreased more than twice. By comparison with control, catalase activity showed more than 30% reduction in AC group while less than 10% reduction in MTZ+AC group, respectively. In addition, MTZ+AC group showed the similar cell structure as control in cell morphology study by using light microscope, and represented fluorescent intensity decrement compared with AC group in fluorescent microscopic study with avidin-TRITC fluorescent dye. And cleaved PARP expression due to ammonia reduced twofold or more in MTZ+AC group. As the results suggest, metronidazole may protect the liver cell by inhibiting cell damages due to ammonia and be used for an effective antagonist of ammonia in hyperammonemia.
This study investigated the effects to lowering hyperlipidemic levels in hamsters by feeding them naringin and onion extracts. The hyperlipidemic levels on all of the hamsters were raised by feeding them with high fat atherogenic diet (HFAD) containing 10% coconut oil and 0.05% cholesterol. The experimental groups were randomly assigned to 5 groups (normal, control, OEN, OES, and OESN) each 6 hamsters over a 40 days period. The control group (HFAD) received a 10% coconut oil and 0.05% cholesterol with basal diet, the OEN group which received an onion extract mixture contaning 50% water and 50% onion extract, the OES group which received 100% onion extract, the OESN group which received 100% onion extract combined with 1% naringin. Serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels significantly decreased in the naringin treated group while the HDL cholesterol level increased. On the other hand, the morphology of the mitochondria and nuclei found in the livers of the treated group given naringin were siginficantly different when compared to those group given high fat diets. In conclusion, onion extract with naringin decreased cholesterol levels in hamster's livers.

In this study, a new meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, Vision Correction Algorithm (VCA), designed according to the optical properties of glasses was developed. The VCA is a technique applying optometry and vision correction procedure to optimization algorithm through the process of myopic/hyperopic correction-brightness adjustment-compression enforcement-astigmatism adjustment. The proposed VCA unlike the conventional meta-heuristic algorithm is an automatically adjusting global/local search rate and global search direction based on accumulated optimization results. The proposed algorithm was applied to the representative optimization problem (mathematical and engineering problem) and results of the application are compared with that of the present algorithms.
The aim of this work is to improve the mechanical properties of materials for glasses lens cutting at $1920^{\circ}C$ using SrO as sintering additive. The heating rate was $15^{\circ}C/min$ and the cooling rate about $25^{\circ}C/min$ from the sintering temperature to $1000^{\circ}C$. SEM analysis and XRD of the surface of samples were carried out. Microstructures of sintered materials were strongly dependent on the composition of sintering additives. The fracture toughness and hardness were increased by increasing the SrO. Typical fracture toughness and hardness of materials for glasses lens cutting were $5.6{\pm}0.3MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and $16.2{\pm}0.5GPa$, respectively.
The actual condition of periodic visual acuity testing for 304 undergraduate students were investigated for the purpose of prepared some fundamental data on the development of the eye-health education program and conducting a practical application. Many undergraduate students (59.21%) had not been tested periodic visual acuity testing. The ratio of periodic visual acuity testing for female was higher than male. There was statistical significant difference dependence on the native place, the educational system, and the division of major. The ratio of periodic visual acuity testing for undergraduate students from city was 43.07%, from rural area was 24.32% (p<0.05). According to the educational system, the ratio of periodic visual acuity testing of university students was 65.71%, college students was 27.64% (p<0.001). The ratio of periodic visual acuity testing of undergraduate students who have corrected their visual acuity was 50.25%, while that of students who have not corrected was 23.36% (p<0.001).
This research investigated the effects of spherical and aspherical R.G.P lenses which was performed by optometrists in In-Cheon and Kyung-Gi region. This research survey included various questions such as the fitting status, after-care method, preliminary test. Results of the survey revealed that the optometriests sold the asperical and spherical lenses with a ratio of 7:3, respectively, and most of them did not cheked Topography, Fluorescein test by slit lamp biomicroscope, Tear Break up time test, Schirmer test and so on. And, with fitted R.G.P lenses symptoms like light odd-feeling, congestion, eye-stimulus, dimness and dryness were frequently reported. The purposes of this study are to search for the ideal fitting check of R.G.P lens and remind the most important preliminary test for contact lens fitting.
In this paper, for the purpose of preparing some fundamental data on the development of the eye-health education program and conducting a practical application, the degree of request for the eye-health education were investigated by surveying 304 undergraduate students. The relationship between the degree of request for the eye-health education and sex, the division of major, and the experience of eye-health education was examined by SAS and $X^2$-test of questionnaire. The degree of request of undergraduate students for the eye-health education was as high as 86.51%. There was no statistical significant difference dependence on their experience of the eye-health education or their sex. There was significant difference dependence on their major. Specially, the degree of request of natural science, medical and health science majors was higher than any other majors. Consideration on the eye-health education should be required to meet the request of it.
