The purpose of this thesis is to develop methods of designing robust LQR/LQG controllers for time-varying systems with real parametric uncertainties. Controller design that meet desired performance and robust specifications is one of the most important unsolved problems in control engineering. We propose a new framework to solve these problems using Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMls) which have gained much attention in recent years, for their computational tractability and usefulness in control engineering. In Robust LQR case, the formulation of LMI based problem is straightforward and we can say that the obtained solution is the global optimum because the transformed problem is convex. In Robust LQG case, the formulation is difficult because the objective function and constraint are all nonlinear, therefore these are not treatable directly by LMI. We propose a sequential solving method which consist of a block-diagonal approach and a full-block approach. Block-diagonal approach gives a conservative solution and it is used as a initial guess for a full-block approach. In full-block approach two LMIs are solved sequentially in iterative manner. Because this algorithm must be solved iteratively, the obtained solution may not be globally optimal.
Glass fiber reinforced gypsum panels (GFRG) are hollow panels made from modified gypsum plaster and reinforced with chopped glass fibers. The hollow cores of panels can be filled with in-situ concrete/reinforced concrete or insulation material to increase the structural strength or the thermal insulation, respectively. GFRG panels are unfilled when used as partition walls. As load bearing walls, the panels are filled with M 20 grade concrete (reinforced concrete filling) in order to resist the gravity and lateral loads. The study was conducted in two stages: First stage involves formulation of the alternate light weight mix by conducting experimental investigations to obtain the optimum combination of phosphogypsum and shredded thermocol. In the second stage the alternate mixes are filled in GFRG panels and experimental investigations are conducted to compare the performance against panels filled with conventional M 20 mix.
The aim of this study was to determine the optimum amount of Job's tears flour to add to glutinous rice flour in the preparation of Dasik. As the Job's tears flour level in the formulation increased, the moisture contents of samples increased (9.70-10.97%), L- and b-values decreased, and the a-value increased. According to the mechanical evaluation results, hardness decreased with increasing amounts of Job's tears flour, cohesiveness was highest in the 60% Job's tears flour sample, springiness and adhesiveness were highest in the 40% sample, and gumminess and chewiness did not differ significantly according to the level of Job's tears flour. From the sensory evaluation results, the 30% sample received the highest color, nutty taste, roughness, softness, chewiness, and overall acceptability scores. In conclusion, based on its sensory and mechanical qualities, the optimal Dasik formulation consisted of 30% Job's tears flour added to glutinous rice flour.
The effects of formulation variables of topical lotion on the skin permeation of ketoprofen were evaluated using excised rat skins. The formulation variables were the amounts of poloxamer 407, drug and ethanol, and penetration enhancers. The Keshary-Chien diffusion cells were used for the diffusion study. The flux of ketoprofen linearly decreased as the concentration of poloxamer increased from 5% to 15% in the preparation, and linearly increased as the amount of drug increased. Penetration enhancers such as fatty acids and fatty alcohols showed markedly enhancing effects at the level of 5%. Among them, the highest flux was shown in linolenic acid. From these results, optimum formula containing 3% ketoprofen, 5% poloxamer 407, 40% ethanol and 5% linolenic acid having the flux of 537.6 $\mu$g/$\textrm{cm}^2$/hr were noted.
The aim of this study was to determine the optimum amount of perilla leaves to add to rice flour in the preparation of Sulgidduk(perilla leaf rice cake). By increasing the perilla leaf level in the formulation, the moisture contents of samples increased ($42.06{\sim}48.17%$), and their L-values decreased. The control and 16% perilla leaf Sulgidduk had higher a-values than the other samples, and the 8% perilla leaf Sulgidduk had the highest b-value. According to the mechanical evaluation results, hardness, gumminess, chewiness, and fracture decreased with increasing amounts of added perilla leaf. However, the springiness of samples during storage did not differ significantly according to the level of added perilla leaves. From the sensory evaluation results, the 12% perilla leaf sample received the highest overall-acceptability scores. In conclusion, according to its sensory and mechanical qualities, the optimal Sulgidduk formulation consisted of 12% perilla leaves added to rice flour.
The smouldering combustibility of cellulose insulation treated with boric acid-borax-alum as combustion retardants are examined by cigarette ignition method and electrical cardrige heater method. The alum to be required at an add on level of at least 12% by weight of cellulose treated with boric acid-borax-alum=2 : 1 : 2 fomulatlon if resistance to smouldering combustion by cigarette ignition is to be achived. The optimum electrical ignition source employed by electrical cartidge heater method was 23.2 watts(80V) power level The effectiveness of Alum as a third combstion retardant are acceptable both smouldering resistance and flame resistance at 18% level of all examined formulation.
For developing digital printing textiles, special pretreatment processes are necessary. These processes include developing formulation of coating agent and coating processes. The pretreatment were investigated with the variation concentration of anti-migration agent, fixation chemical etc.. The printing qualities according to pretreatment conditions were studied with color yield, printed capital letter sharpness and washing fastness. It was observed that the concentration of anti-migration agent, fixation agent(alkali) was closely related to printing qualities. For developing industrial technology of cellulosic digital printing textiles, optimum viscosity of pretreatment coating formulation is very important factor.
Recent, more and more steel deck bridges are adopted for the design of long span bridges and the upgrading of existing concrete deck bridges, mainly because of reduced self weight, higher stiffness and efficient erection compared to concrete decks. The main objective of this study is to propose on formulation of the design optimizations to develop an optimal desist program required for optimum desist for orthotropic steel-deck bridges. The objective function of the optimization is formulated as a minimum initial cost design problem. The behavior and design constraints are formulated based on the ASD and LRFD criteria of the Korean Bridge Design Code(1996). The optimum design program developed in this study consists of two steps. In the first step the system optimization of the steel box girder bridges is carried out. And in the second step the program provided the optimum design of the orthotropic steel-deck with close ribs. In the optimal design program the analysis module for the deck optimization is based on the Pelican Esslinger method. The optimizer module of the program utilizes the ADS(Automated Desist Synthesis) routines using the optimization techniques fuor constrained optimization. From the results of real application examples, The cost effectiveness of optimum orthotropic steel-deck bridges designs based on both ASD and LRFD methods is investigated by comparing the results with those of conventional designs, and it may be concluded that the design developed in this study seems efficient and robust for the optimization of orthotropic steel-deck bridges
