The potential impact of past Caribbean tsunamis generated by earthquakes and/or massive submarine slides/slumps, as well as the tsunamigenic potential and population distribution within the Intra-Americas Sea (IAS) was examined to help define the optimal location for coastal sea level gauges intended to serve as elements of a regional tsunami warning system. The goal of this study was to identify the minimum number of sea level gauge locations to aid in tsunami detection and provide the most warning time to the largest number of people. We identified 12 initial, prioritized locations for coastal sea level gauge installation. Our study area approximately encompasses $7^{\circ}N$, $59^{\circ}W$ to $36^{\circ}N$, $98^{\circ}$ W. The results of this systematic approach to assess priority locations for coastal sea level gauges will assist in developing a tsunami warning system (TWS) for the IAS by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission's Regional Sub-Commission for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (IOCARIBE-GOOS).

Low-cost and large-scale fabrication method of nanohole array, which comprises nanoscale voids separated by a few tens to a few hundreds of nanometers, has opened up new possibilities in biomolecular sensing as well as novel frontier optical devices. One of the key aspects of the nanohole array research is how to control the hole size following each specific needs of the hole structure. Here, we report the extensive study on the fine control of the hole size within the range of 500-2500 nm via surface-catalyzed chemical deposition. The initial hole structures were prepared via conventional photo-lithography, and the hole size was decreased to a designed value through the surface-catalyzed chemical reduction of the gold ion on the predefined hole surfaces, by simple dipping of the hole array device into the aqueous solution of gold chloride and hydroxylamine. The final hole size was controlled by adjusting reaction time, and the optimal experimental condition was obtained by doing a series of characterization experiments. The characterization of size-controlled hole array was systematically examined on the image results of optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), atomic-force microscopy(AFM), and total internal reflection microscopy.
Tyrosinase was covalently immobilized on platinum electrode according to the method we developed for laccase (Bull. Korean Chem. Soc. 2002, 23(7), 385) and p-chlorophenol, p-cresol, and phenol could be detected with sensitivities of 334, 139 and 122 nA/ ${\mu}M$ and the detection limits of 1.0, 2.0, and 2.5 ${\mu}M$, respectively. The response time ($t_{90\%}$) is 3 seconds for p-chlorophenol, and 5 seconds for p-cresol and phenol. The optimal pHs of the sensor are in the range of 5.0- 6.0. This sensor can tolerate at least 500 times repeated injections of p-chlorophenol with retaining 80% of initial activity. In case of tyrosinase and laccase co immobilized platinum electrode, the sensitivities are 560 nA/ ${\mu}M$ for p-phenylenediamine (PPD) and 195 nA/ ${\mu}M$ for p-chlorophenol, respectively. The sensitivity of the bi-enzyme sensor for PPD increases 70% compared to that of only laccase immobilized one, but the sensitivity for p-chlorophenol decreases 40% compared to that of only tyrosinase immobilized one. The sensitivity increase for the bi-enzyme sensor for PPD can be ascribed to the additional catalytic function of the co-immobilized tyrosinase. The sensitivity decrease for p-chlorophenol can be explained by the “blocking effect” of the co-immobilized laccase, which hinders the mass transport through the immobilized layer. If PPD was detected with the electrode that had been used for p-chlorophenol, the sensitivity decreased 20% compared to that of the electrode that had been used only for PPD. Similarly, if p-chlorophenol was detected with PPD detected electrode, the sensitivity also decreased 20%. The substrate-induced conformation changes of the enzymes in a confined layer may be responsible for the phenomena.

In the near future various new services will be created by using ubiquitous computing and ubiquitous network. Especially u-LBS(Ubiquitous Location Based Services) is recognized as one of the most important services. U-LBS is based on the data created by recognizing objects including both human and matters at any time and anywhere. Many researches related with object locating method by using RF are in the process of studying However there are few researches on the location of objects. In this paper we propose the recognition method of the location of objects by using RF and USN technology. In detail, the strength of RF signal is used to recognize the location of objects. Also we discuss about the future work to enhance the recognition rate of location by using a number of conditions including the weather, temperature etc. And Genetic Algorithm is used to get the optimal parameters with which we can get the more exact recognition rate of location.

Decision making by farmers regarding irrigation is critical for crop production. Therefore, the precision irrigation technique is very important to improve crop quality and yield. Recently, much attention has been given to remote sensing of crop canopy temperature as a crop water-stress indicator, because it is a scientifically based and easily applicable method even at field scales. This study monitored a series of time-variant canopy temperature of cucumber under three different irrigation treatments: under-irrigation (control), optimal-irrigation, and over-irrigation. The difference between canopy temperature ($T_c$) and air temperature ($T_a$), $T_c-T_a$, was calculated as an indicator of cucumber water stress. Vapor pressure deficit (VPD) was evaluated to define water stress on the basis of the temperature difference between leaf and air. The values of $T_c-T_a$ was negatively related to VPD; further, cucumber growth in the under- and over-irrigated fields showed water stress, in contrast to that grown in the optimally irrigated field. Thus, thermal infrared measurements could be useful for evaluating crop water status and play an important role in irrigation scheduling of agricultural crops.

In order to respond to the complexity and uncertainty of water management due to the climate crisis, K-water established a digital twin water management platform based on our experience in operating ICT infrastructure such as hydrological data sensing and high-quality data management and water management capabilities. In this platform, data from related organizations and real-time observation data in the basin are displayed on 3D topographic domain. Also it is configured to support optimal decision-making through simulation for various situations, displaying and analyzing results, and feedback on them. It is completed to establish the platform for Sunjim river basin. Based on this technologies and experience, K-water is planning to expand this digital twin to 5 major rivers in Korea. Through this, it plans to build comprehensive decision-making system for efficient water management considering various conditions in entire basin. Also it aims to create a new water industrial ecosystem and contribute to secure technological competitiveness cooperating with private companies.
There are many limitations in dealing with rapidly changing traffic demand in urban cities. Thus recently, traffic operation and management skills are more emphasized rather than the expansion of traffic facilities. In particular, in the interrupted flow formed by signalized intersections, it is quite important to give optimal signal timing to each intersection with consideration of progression. However, as fixed signal times per direction can affect passing capacity in signalized intersections, the present four-signal phase including a left-turn signal has many limitations, including reduction of directional road capacity when traffic demand is increases dramatically during peak hours. Because of this problem, lots of studies about internal metering techniques for oversaturated signal control skills have progressed but these techniques are not used widely due to the absence of detectors for queue sensing in real-time signal control systems. In this research, a new methodology called the "restrictive left-turn signal control", which is already used at the intersection above Samsung subway station, is suggested in order to reduce control delay of urban arterial roads. The restrictive left-turn signal control allows a driver to make a U-turn and then a right turn instead of turning left in that intersection. With this change, the restrictive left-turn signal control can contribute to increased intersection capacity by reducing the number of signal phases and maximizing the through phase time. However, road structure and traffic conditions at the target intersections should be considered before the adoption of the proposed signal control.

Pipeline structure is one of core underground infrastructure which transports primary sources. Since the almost pipeline structures are placed underground and connected each other complexly, it is difficult to monitor their structural health condition continuously. In order to overcome this limitation of recent monitoring technique, recently, a Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN) system based on on-line and real-time monitoring system is being developed by the authors' research group. In this study, real-time pipeline health monitoring (PHM) methodology is presented based on electromechanical impedance methods using USN. Two types of damages including loosened bolts and notches are artificially inflicted on the pipeline structures, PZT and MFC sensors that have piezoelectric characteristics are employed to detect these damages. For objective evaluation of pipeline conditions, Damage metric such as Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) value was computed from the impedance signals to quantify the level of the damage. Optimal threshold levels for decision making are estimated by generalized extreme value(GEV) based statistical method. Throughout a series of experimental studies, it was reviewed the effectiveness and robustness of proposed PHM system.
Glacier movement speed is the most basic measurement for glacial dynamics research and is a very important indicator in predicting sea level rise due to climate change. In this study, the two-dimensional velocity measurements of Campbell Glacier located in Terra Nova Bay in East Antarctica were observed through the SAR offset tracking technique. For this purpose, domestic KOMPSAT-5 SAR satellite images taken on July 9, 2021 and August 6, 2021 were acquired. The Multi-kernel SAR offset tracking proposed through previous studies is a technique to obtain the optimal result that satisfies both resolution and precision. However, since offset tracking is repeatedly performed according to the size of the kernel, intensive computational power and time are required. Therefore, in this study, we strategically proposed a coarse-to-fine offset tracking approach. Through coarse-to-fine SAR offset tracking, it is possible to obtain a result with improved observation precision (especially, about 4 times in azimuth direction) while maintaining resolution compared to general offset tracking results. Using this proposed technique, a two-dimensional velocity measurements of Campbell Glacier were generated. As a result of analyzing the two-dimensional movement velocity image, it was observed that the grounding line of Campbell Glacier exists at approximately latitude -74.56N. The flow velocity of Campbell Glacier Tongue analyzed in this study (185-237 m/yr) increased compared to that of 1988-1989 (140-240 m/yr). And compared to the flow velocity (181-268 m/yr) in 2010-2012, the movement speed near the ground line was similar, but it was confirmed that the movement speed at the end of the Campbell Glacier Tongue decreased. However, there is a possibility that this is an error that occurs because the study result of this study is an annual rate of glacier movement that occurred for 28 days. For accurate comparison, it will be necessary to expand the data in time series and accurately calculate the annual rate. Through this study, the two-dimensional velocity measurements of the glacier were observed for the first time using the KOMPSAT-5 satellite image, a domestic X-band SAR satellite. It was confirmed that the coarse-to-fine SAR offset tracking approach of the KOMPSAT-5 SAR image is very useful for observing the two-dimensional velocity of glacier movements.
