Differences in Manufacturing Process and Quality between Cheonggukjang for Use in the Raw and Cheonggukjang for Stew

  • When cheonggukjgang was manufactured using a Bacillus subtilis CH10-1 starter culture, a short-term fermentation for 14-18 hr appeared to be the optimal for the raw cheonggukjang to avoid the formation of a bitter taste and to contain a high concentration of free sugars, whereas a long-term fermentation for more than 4 days was the optimal for the cheonggukjang for stew in order to contain a high concentration of free amino and organic acids, which are responsible for sweet, savory, and bitter tastes present in stewed cheonggukjang, During activation of murine splenic T cells with phytohemagglutinin (PHA), the presence of either poly-$\gamma$-glutamic acid ($\gamma$-PGA) or partially hydrolyzed $\gamma$-PGA resulted in reduction in the level of interferon-$\gamma$ production and enhancement in the level of interleukin-5 production, possibly due to suppression of Th1 activity and augmentation of Th2 activity. Taken together these results indicate that the raw cheonggukjang and the cheonggukjang for stew are different in their quality and taste as well as immunomodulating activity.

A Mobile Router Scheme Considering Node Property in Nested Mobile Networks (중첩 이동 네트워크에서 노드의 특성을 고려한 이동 라우터 방안)

  • In this paper presents the method of the Optimal Mobile Router Designation (OMRD) using QM(Quality of service Manager) in the nested mobile network. QM is positioned on TLMR (Top Level Mobile Router) in the nested mobile network and manages the information of all MRs in the mobile network. When MN (Mobile Node) moves to a new MR, OMRD (Optimal Mobile Router Designation) selects the candidate MRs group and decides an optimal MR considering the mobile characteristics. OMRD reduces maximally the production of handover and removes the transmission delay of a new call and a handover call resulted from the wireless insufficient resource. Also, it prevents the concentration in a specific MR and maintains equally the load of the whole network.

Effect of Close-up Dry Period Protein Level on Preparturiental Nitrogen Balance and Lactating Performance of Primigravid and Multiparous Holstein Cows

  • This study compared the effects of two levels of crude protein (CP) supplementation during a close-up dry period on the productive performance, nitrogen balance, and blood profiles of Holstein cows. Eighteen cows (8 primigravid and 10 multiparous), 21 days prior to calving, were divided into four groups and fed a diet containing a low (11.5 to 12.7% CP) or high (14.1 to 15.3% CP) level of protein. Following parturition, all cows were offered the same diet. Nitrogen balance was measured 12 d to 10 d prior to the expected calving date. Whole feces and urine were collected. The higher close-up CP did not improve milk production during the early lactation period (14 w) in multiparous cows but tended to increase production by 2 kg of milk per day in primigravid cows. There were no differences in the weight of calves, the weight of the placenta, or the incidence of calving difficulty. Nitrogen intake, urine nitrogen and nitrogen retention were increased by the higher CP diet in primigravid and multiparous cows. All groups of cows showed a positive nitrogen balance. In particular, higher nitrogen retention was observed in primigravid cows fed the higher CP diet. With the exception of plasma urea nitrogen (PUN), non of the blood profiles were influenced by the CP level. The higher close-up CP increased the PUN during the period studied in primigravid and multiparous cows. These results indicate that a CP level of 14% during a close-up dry period is optimal for primigravid cows, and 12% CP level is sufficient for multiparous cows.

  • This thesis describes a quantitative decision-making of production planning system. A mathmatical model of Linear Programming is used set up a production scheuling under the assumption. As the emphasis is laid on the applicability of the developed model, the linrar programming is applied to establish the production schedule for "F" furniture company which produces kitchin cabinet and OA furniture, The optimal solution is obtained by using the LP package, QBS. By the solution reduced to 14% of work force compared with the real data during all of the planning horizon. And it is also possible to reduce the work-force of the lowest level of employee by 10% for the reasonable management. There are some limitations in computerized data processing, which is only considering the economic costs without considering any external environment of case enterprise. As a result, it is shown that the LP model is very useful method of make aggregate production schedule. schedule.

Optimum culture conditions for production of extracellular cytosine deaminase by bacellus polymyxa YL 38-3 (Bacillus polymyxa YL38-3의 세포외 cytosine deaminase 생성의 최적 배양 조건)

  • The strain YL 38-3, which was capable of producing extracellular cytosine deaminase, was isolated and taxonomically examined. The isolated strain was identified to be Bacillus polymyxa YL 38-3. The optimal conditions for the enzyme production from Bacillus polymyxa YL 38-3 were investigated. The enzyme production was reached maximum level in the medium containing 0.5% glucose, 0.2% beef extract, 0.5% NaCl and 0.1% $KH_{2}PO_{4}$ (pH 6.0). And the enzyme showed the highest activity when the strain YL 38-3 was cultivated at $35^{\circ}C$ for 24 gours under the initial pH 6.0. By the additions of peptone the extracellular enzyme production was inhibited, meanwhile the intracellular enzyme production was highly stimulated. It was, therefore, deduced that peptone was related to the secretion mechanism of the enzyme from this bacterial cell.

Graded concentrations of digestible lysine on performance of White Leghorn laying hens fed sub-optimal levels of protein

  • Objective: An experiment was conducted to study the effect of graded concentration of digestible lysine (dLys) on performance of layers fed diets containing sub-optimal level of protein. Methods: Five diets were formulated to contain graded concentrations of dLys (0.700%, 0.665%, 0.630%, 0.593%, and 0.563%), but similar levels of crude protein (15% CP), energy (10.25 MJ ME/kg) and other nutrients. A total of 3,520 hens (26 wk of age) with mean body weight of 1,215+12.65 g were randomly divided into 40 replicate groups of 88 birds in each and housed in an open sided colony cage house. Each diet was offered ad libitum to eight replicates from 27 to 74 wk of age. The performance was compiled at every 28 d and the data for each parameter were grouped into three phases, that is early laying phase (27 to 38 wk), mid laying phase (39 to 58 wk), and late laying phase (59 to 74 wk of age) for statistical analysis. Results: Egg production, egg mass and feed efficiency (feed required to produce an egg) were significantly improved by the dLys level during the early and mid laying phases but not during the late phase. Whereas feed intake was significantly reduced by dLys concentration during mid and late laying phases but not during early laying phase. The egg weight was not affected by dLys concentration in any of the three phases. Conclusion: Based on best fitted statistical models, dietary requirements of dLys worked out to be 0.685%, 0.640%, and 0.586% during early phase, mid phase, and late egg laying phase, respectively. The calculated requirement of dLys for the respective production phases are 727 mg/b/d during the early and mid laying phases and 684 mg/b/d during the late laying phase in diets containing 15% CP.

  • Automatic transfer defined as an integrated system with a number of workstations, interstation storage buffers, automatic device and a control system, play a major role in ass production systems. Due to high capital investment needed for an automatic transferline, greater care should be taken in its design so as to maximize the system performance. One may to control the system performance is to control buffer storage. To control the interstation work-in-process inventory, we propose dual limit switches which control the buffer storage with two parameters, R and r. Under the policy, proceding station is forced down when the inventory level in the buffer reaches R until the level falls to r. For the model developed, we analyze the system characteristics and find the optimal control parameters with a serach procedure.

  • The quality control literature contains a substantial number of articles concerned with how to optimally choose control limits in order to minimize production cost. The purpose of the this study is to determine the economic setting for the process mean of an industrial process. In this study it is assumed that the lower control limit is set by government regulations and the u, pp.r limit and process mean are chosen based on economic considerations. Much research has been conducted on this problem under the condition of the fixed rpm(rate per minute). However a variance can be increased in proportion to the level of rpm and the increase of the variance can change the optimal process mean. Therefore, it is desirable to determine both the process mean and the level of rpm simultaneously. In this paper, a mathematical model is presented which considers the u, pp.r limit and the rpm as variables.

Studies for the Sustainable Management of Oyster Farms in Pukman Bay, Korea: Estimation of Carrying Capacity from Food Availability

  • To develop a sustainable management model for oyster farming in Pukman Bay, Korea, we estimated the carrying capacity for oyster farming using food availability data. Optimal culture densities were calculated to be 124-133 individuals per unit flux area ($m^2$) and 310-330 individuals per string. The present annual production is approximately 1,038 tons/year, which is 87% of the estimated maximum yield of 1,193 tons/year. Therefore, considering annual fluctuations and a critical buffer to reduce ecological impacts, the current level is within optimal conditions. During periods of increased water temperature, energy demand was largely met by high primary production. The food supply significantly decreased as the harvest season approached, and 10 out of 21 oyster farms had a deficient food supply for at least 1 month. Therefore, these farms (39% of the farms within the bay) exceeded optimal densities.

  • The optimum cultural conditions for production of yellow pigment by Monascus purpureus MMK2 were investigated in liquid culture. Monascus purpureus MMK2 was shown to give the maximum production of yellow pigment in the medium containing of 3.0% wheat flour, 0.15% $NaNO_3$, 0.25% $Na_2HPO_4\;12H_2O\;and\;0.15%\;MgSO_4\;7H_2O$. The optimal culture conditions for temperature and initial pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 6.5, respectively. The yellow pigment production reached a maximum level at the 7th day of cultivation.
